About Mother India's Cafe at The Lansdowne
Mother India’s Cafe at The Lansdowne: Tapas dining meets cosy wine and cocktail bar
In 2019, Mother India relaunched The Lansdowne, retaining it’s long standing tradition as a meet up spot for casual dining and drinks.
The familiar layout of this basement venue has been lovingly restored with large tables for group dining and cosy booths for quiet conversation. At the back of the venue sits it’s hidden gem: a big bright conservatory known as the ‘Glasshouse’.
Taking inspiration from the popular Mother India’s cafe, The Lansdowne’s menu builds on it's famous tapas concept. Small and medium plates from an extensive but freshly produced menu make for a delightful sharing experience. A separate kids menu offers family friendly dining.
The well stocked bar hosts an array of wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks as well as a full list of cocktails.
So whether you are planning your next big meal out or just a catch up with friends, why not give the Lansdowne a try? Book a table now or pop in for a drink and bite to eat soon!
I was really excited at the prospect of the kids curry menu but it was a real let down. Chicken and fish goujons (which were on the menu) we can get anywhere. The curry dishes on the kids menu were not very child friendly or customisable. The lamb biryiani was way too spicy for my 7 yr old and they said they could not make it less spicy. They did offer raita, which was good, but did not help. The main menu dishes were delicious and could not be faulted. The ambience was lifeless, however. I missed the fantastic photos and decor of the original Mother India Cafe. It felt like the old Lansdowne but with curry. I expected something a bit more different. The attention of the staff was good but nothing out of the ordinary.
Loved every bit of it. It fully live up to our expectations. Will be back !
I came here as a group of school mums for x mas night out. Carlos was so helpful and made the booking super easy. The staff were brilliant and attentive and the food delicious. What more could you ask for?!
Everyone in the party loved the food. Plenty of compliments about all the dishes ordered. Will visit again.
We held a Christening in the Glasshouse and could absolutely not fault the service, staff or food. David was wonderful, and Carlos and Millie were also so accommodating with our party. Perfect environment for a small celebration, the food was amazing! Can’t recommend enough!!! Excellent value for money!
Great restaurant. Great food
Staff were extremely friendly and catered to all our needs :)
Great food and service (as always). Menu had changed, great choice and very varied, we loved everything and only just managed to finish everything we had ordered.
Food was well cooked and very tasty and the service quick and efficient.
Had a lovely time. 4 friends and we all enjoyed the food immensely. The restaurant decor was lovely, the staff were patient (we were talking too much and took ages to order) and the bill was a nice surprise too. Will definitely be back!
Had a great evening at Mother India at the Lansdowne - staff were lovely and food excellent. Will definitely return
First time in this particular restaurant and we really enjoyed it! Food was lovely and staff were very nice & helpful Would book again
This has the potential to be a great place to eat but, reluctantly, I’d have to say it doesn’t yet live up to the Mother India name and reputation. Food wasn’t warm, rice seemed to have suffered a salt related mishap, green beans were like bits of wood. Other things, particularly the cocktails and lamb dishes, were great but the lack of consistency in quality would make me hesitate to recommend a visit at present. The surroundings and wonderfully attentive staff deserve better deliveries from the kitchen. Personally I do look forward to going back when these issues are sorted out, as they surely will be.
Wonderful place and food was amazing. Staff is very friendly. Really relaxing environment in the restaurant.
Curries were tasty and good value for money, service and atmosphere could be improved.
We are regular visitors at mother India’s cafe on Argyll street so we thought we’d try the Lansdowne for a change. The scallops and cauliflower were amazing but some of the dishes we normally order at Argyll street were completely different and not to our taste. Based on our disappointment in the food we won’t be returning to the Lansdowne.
The atmosphere in the main bar/restaurant area is better than the glasshouse-the seating and tables are a bit out of sync with rest of the decor which is very modern. Excellent service and very good food-also good be able to book ahead at this venue.
Really nice food and atmosphere.
Really outstanding, great food great service, great atmosphere and value for money
Very enjoyable meal will definitely go again and recommend to friends and family
Really great space, and just wonderful to have the cafe food but with the option to book... will be back many times!! l
Great food, generous portions at reasonable prices. Very enjoyable
Helpful, friendly staff. Delicious food. The usual high standards. We will be back
