About Monty's Deli
Monty's Deli opened as a market stall in 2012. Mark had long been obsessed with refining the perfect pastrami and salt beef, and his sandwiches – hand carved towers of meat – were soon declared by Tom Kerridge 'the best value lunch in London'. One of the only places in Britain to make their own salt beef and pastrami, Monty's Deli is proud to produce everything by hand. They bake the bagels, they cure the meat, they make the mustard, they've even developed a rye bread to complement their award-winning sandwiches. Like Katz's in New York, and Langer's in LA, the recipes are closely guarded secrets, and the portions are generous. This is the food Mark was brought up on, food that his grandfather, Monty, introduced him to as a child. Chicken soup with kneidlach, cooked over two days. Salt beef perfected over a week. This is Jewish soul food, made with love.
Amazing food and great decor, the only minor criticism would be the service.
Very good, as always.
Well on the way to replicating a New York Deli, in London, (except the waiters aren't rude!)
Brilliant. Everything from start to finish was perfect. GREAT food GREAT atmosphere and GREAT service. The salt beef to die for.. Doubled up and took another helping of everything home. Amazing.
We waited 30 minutes for a sandwich which was the meal deal of the day. Although it was delicious, the wait for a sandwich was unacceptable. The restaurant was busy but all the other tables had already been served, so we could see no reason for the delay.
delicious food, and a lovely space. and the blackcurrant soda! wonderful
Great Jewish deli. Feels very NewYorky!!
Monty's Deli features a great space with counter space, booths and tables. The service is friendly and efficient but it is apparent here are new waiters on the ground still learning the menu. Monty's Deli is dog-friendly and overall it offers a chilled out atmosphere. As for the menu, it is what you would expect from a Jewish deli in New York. The star of the menu is the Reuben Special (1/2 pastrami, 1/2 salt beef) which hands down is the absolute best in London.
Delicious food, nice atmosphere on a Saturday afternoon, chilled out with a book and a drink after eating. Will definitely come again
Tried the famous Salt Beef Reuben, 10/10! Portions smaller than expected but food fantastic. Staff very friendly & attentive.
A great evening with great food.
Wonderful lunch. Will be back.
Service is slow. They’d run out of beer and didn’t sell cider. When we asked if they could serve us 3 latkas they said they only came in 2s so it was either 2 or 4. Given we spent over £100 this seemed petty but they would not budge.
Such a kind welcome and great attention to detail for all our party. The food was delicious, promptly served and everyone loved it.
We have been fans of Monty’s since it opened. The only thing I have found is that despite coming early in the day, you have often “run out” of items - not brilliant planning.
what a fantastic place. can't imagine a brunch dish any better the salt beef latkes I had yesterday. fab filter coffee too. thanks
Food was delicious and good value for money!
Great food, great service, what more is there to say?
We enjoyed a delicious dinner and impeccable service at Monty’s! Everyone in our party ordered a fresser plate, which are very good value for money and gave us the chance to try almost all of the menu. The salt beef Reuben is my favourite sandwich in all of London, hands down. Other highlights: the smoked aubergine, pickled herring and turkey schnitzel. We rounded the meal off with the best cheesecake I’ve had outside of Katz’s Deli in NYC – with lots of wine, beer and cocktails along the way. The food came out fast and hot, portion sizes are generous, and the people who work there are genuinely friendly and eager to make sure you have the perfect dining experience. The restaurant’s soft lighting and old-school decor both elevate the atmosphere. We all bought pickle T-shirts on the way out, which were delivered in this cute paper bag parcel. It’s details such as these that will keep me coming back to Monty’s as often as I’m able to. L’chaim!!
Very good pastrami sandwiches. Nice service.
Delicious food and great atmosphere! Reuben Special was on point with pastrami being definitely my fave. The side portion of pickles was disappointingly small, but other than that well-balanced and delicious. Chicken soup was homey and flavoursome. Yum! Amazing to see these guys succeeding from a simple market stall in Maltby Market to this full blown deli. Will definitely come back!
Superb chicken soup and schnitzel. Prices very reasonable. Friendly atmosphere. Only problem was that background music was too loud!
Delicious food, delightful service. Generous helpings, except for the smoked salmon portions on the bagels...
We came for late brunch on Sunday ... there were 10 of us including children . Absolutely brilliant patient service , great atmosphere , delicious food ! The chicken soup apparently was’ better than nannas ‘ according to our 10 year old ! Could eat it all again right now .... just wished we lived closer!
