About Monty's Deli
Monty's Deli opened as a market stall in 2012. Mark had long been obsessed with refining the perfect pastrami and salt beef, and his sandwiches – hand carved towers of meat – were soon declared by Tom Kerridge 'the best value lunch in London'. One of the only places in Britain to make their own salt beef and pastrami, Monty's Deli is proud to produce everything by hand. They bake the bagels, they cure the meat, they make the mustard, they've even developed a rye bread to complement their award-winning sandwiches. Like Katz's in New York, and Langer's in LA, the recipes are closely guarded secrets, and the portions are generous. This is the food Mark was brought up on, food that his grandfather, Monty, introduced him to as a child. Chicken soup with kneidlach, cooked over two days. Salt beef perfected over a week. This is Jewish soul food, made with love.
everything just superb and have also said so on TripAdvisor DR 21/05/2018
Quiet - such a lovely evening
Delicious Reubens' and interior design!
Amazing food and service!
Lovely place. Very good food, especially chicken liver and blitzes! Yummy :) The service is on top, we have been asked if we like the food several times, had a chat with the owner and were looked after properly. I would definitely like to come back.
Loved it, again. The oxtail croquettes were delicious.
Excellent service, even better food.
Pastrami is magic!
I have eaten at Monty's twice - the first for lunch which was fab. I still remember the french toast. Amazing. Dinner was not as great - the choice for vegetarians is a little limited, but this is not really a place for veggies - though the latkes are worth going there for them alone. The lokshen pudding was a disappointment. My recollection from childhood used broader egg vermicelli and the raisins are cooked inside the mixture which is always crispy on top and chewy in the middle...
I made a reservation for a table for three two days before attending Montys. On arrival, I discovered the table was for two. The table was next to a shallow bench with a slatted wooden screen. This is where the third person was supposed to sit. To be honest, this seating isn’t adequate - the wall is uncomfortable to lean against and the bench has little more depth than a shelf. I asked one of the waiters if when a booth became available we could moved. I explained that I am disabled and need more in the way of leg room. She was hesitant but said she could check. Myself and my friends asked for this twice more during our stay but none of the waiters responded to our request. During this time we saw people (also groups of 3) being brought in and seated in booths along with tables that had been pushed together to create more room. The restaurant should not advertise tables through a booking service if they are not actually able to provide adequate, comfortable seating. Furthermore, I am shocked by the response to a customer who has declared themselves disabled. The food is nice but not cheap and so I was disappointed by this service.
Loved that my bagel came as build it yourself The slaw was perfect My only suggestion.- a few more veggie options?? But hey my boyfriend was in love with your salt beef & the salmon was lush Will be back 100% Thankyou!!
Loved everything. Only regret was that I forgot to buy a t shirt!
I can't think of as good a weekend brunch venue ( except perhaps Barney Greengrass, but that's in New York!). Service attentive but unobtrusive, atmosphere relaxed and friendly. The food - chicken and kneidlach soup, salt beef, potato latkes etc all utterly delicious. Thank you and see you soon........
Delicious food in a trendy setting.
Fantastic lunch. We had a great time, thankyou!
Came here for lunch after a long morning (cycling) and with a huge appetite in tow - I left more than sated. The hardest thing was deciding between getting a Rueben classic or the Meshuggeneh.
Great service and delicious food.
Warm and friendly. Lovely food. Delicious cocktails. Hoxton is very lucky to have this place.
My only criticism is that your babka is too dry. It’s not soaked with sugar syrup enough. And your rugglach is too expensive. But other than that, everything is amazing!
Very good cheery service The bagel boards are excellent
Ate at Monty's a few times when based in Malty Street market, as I'm a massive fan of reuben sandwiches. Theirs is truly still the best in London and the restaurant is a vibrant and cosy spot, both at lunch and in the evening. On both occasions I've visited, I've had the reuben, but also keen to try the other menu items eventually. Service is attentive, natural and friendly. Though initially seated at a small table in the middle, we were upgraded to a booth, which was much more comfortable. My partner and I both had reubens as our evening meal, which with drinks came to over £70 - quite a lot for sandwiches and fries, but very enjoyable nonetheless. Thanks Montys, looking forward to the next trip already!
On arrival we were told we had our table for 1 1/2 hrs only . This was not mentioned in the booking and is not long enough for a table of 8 . . . We were able to stay in the end as restaurant not so busy but annoying to hear on arrival. . .
Best Reuben ever
Loved Montys Deli, the food and service. Will be coming back.
