About Mistley Thorn
The Mistley Thorn is located in the centre of the historic coastal village of Mistley and is two minutes walk from Mistley station which has direct services to Colchester, Harwich and London Liverpool Street. Built as a coaching inn circa 1723, The Mistley Thorn offers award-winning dining and accommodation in tastefully designed surroundings opposite the River Stour. American born executive chef Sherri Singleton has developed a menu using the best of the area’s seasonal produce.
Warm relaxing boutique hotel - large lovely bedroom - thought has gone into every aspect of the rooms not just decor but quality shower products (Ren) to the teas and coffees. The bed incredibly comfortable! We had dinner which was delicious and the breakfast was really well cooked - I had the vegan option which was really nice. Will definitely return!
Great dishes at reasonable value.
A fabulously serene and easy getaway from London. Beautiful rooms, food and service - thank you for the relaxing stay!
Found it so good that we came back two nights in a row! Thanks!
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Well worth the journey for fantastic seafood.
Great Sunday lunch, good choice, excellent value, top service - thanks.
Lovely staff and great food as always
Food was disappointing compared to previous visits
Delicious fresh fish and great atmosphere. Was great to return to The Thorn and bring my father and brother for the first time ! They were very impressed.....Thank You
We booked a table for 11 to celebrate my Mum’s 80th birthday. The staff were so helpful - accommodated our dog and provided a separate vegan menu. The food was great, we weren’t rushed, the staff were friendly and efficient. We had a great time and a number of our party are planning a return visit. Than you Mistley Thorn!
Great food and service as usual. Slightly quieter on a Sunday night but the food always make a visit very worthwhile.
Thick slabs of roast beef, crisp roast potatoes, plenty of gravy. Few other vegetables - just some kale. Horseradish when asked for. Tasty squid starter. Delighted to find a lactose free dessert on the menu. Seating uncomfortable - unpadded seats, restaurant very noisy and cramped Sunday lunch time. Not offered a drink to wait with - the staff were very busy.
Delicious fresh food, lovely space and great service
Usual great food served in a lovely atmosphere - the Roast Beef was gorgeous - nice way to finish Mother’s Day
I attended the Persian evening ! It was fabulous. I really enjoyed the evening - the food was excellent.
I thought the fish portions were slightly smaller than normal
Excellent as ever. One of our favourite places to be especially on this Persian new year. Great food from David and team
Delicious food, fabulous cocktails and wonderful stafff. Persian night was brilliant!
Great food, excellent service, fantastic value
Regular customers always great service , and always a good selection of GF dishes available , as my wife Debbie has coeliac allergy.
We have had dinner at the Thorn a few times now, and it has always been excellent. This time we thought we would try the breakfast, and it was equally impressive, lovely relaxed atmosphere, very good choice, friendly and attentive staff and excellent value for money. Well done, we will definitely be returning. Graham Aldrich
Great meal at the Mistley Thorn, we are never let down by this restaurant. It is one of our favourites, great service, great food and an amazing atmosphere. We will be back again soon...
My niece who lives in London thinks the Thorn is very good value for money compared to London-prices. Only negative was there were no staff around when we entered restaurant and we had to wait quite a while to be seated, but service during meal was very good.
It is always a pleasure eating at The Mistley Thorn. Good food, lovely service and value for money.
firstly, we like this restaurant having been several times before,This time we felt that the room was a little cold, it was a chilly night, so we were hoping to be a bit more comfortable. Our starters were excellent, In particular my squid was little short of perfect, My main, Rib Eye, steak was only ok and quite small for £22.00 I realise this will appear churlish and it will not put us off from coming again but I felt it better to be honest. The service was first class.
