About Mistley Thorn
The Mistley Thorn is located in the centre of the historic coastal village of Mistley and is two minutes walk from Mistley station which has direct services to Colchester, Harwich and London Liverpool Street. Built as a coaching inn circa 1723, The Mistley Thorn offers award-winning dining and accommodation in tastefully designed surroundings opposite the River Stour. American born executive chef Sherri Singleton has developed a menu using the best of the area’s seasonal produce.
It was wonderful as always. Great to be back and the staff coped really well with the changed serving experience.
Best meal I’ve had at the Thorn and that’s saying something. The Monkfish curry is highly recommended
Very good food and service
We had a delicious lunch last week. The service was good, although I would say that the waiter didn't appear to be that engaging with us. I didn't feel that he really enjoyed his job!
We always have a wonderful night at the Thorn. The food is consistently outstanding, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Our favourite place to eat.
We've been meaning to try this restaurant for ages, my only regret is that we left it so long. Amazing food, great service! We'll definitely be going back.
Always lovely , no complaints lovely restaurant
Lovely starters but average portions with the main course and the chips were disappointing. Service was reasonably attentive.
Our table was strangely too large and very difficult to access but the food, wine and staff were excellent! We will definitely return. The special events forthcoming menus look good too!
Seated at a table next to main entry/exit to the kitchen. A little too busy around us. One of my partythard of hearing, another elderly. Not ideal. But I guess someone has to sit there on a busy Sunday. Next time i will request a table in a less busy area. Otherwise great food, service and good value.
Have stayed a number of times. Great location, rooms & food. However everytime, my bill has been wrong. On most recent visit, they tried to overcharge me by £40.
A very enjoyable late long lunch
Fabulous meal, great value for money. Really attentive and friendly staff.
An excellent leisurely lunch - as always 😃
Fantastic local restaurant
Excellent food and service
Wonderful food and service as ever!
Never fails to be enjoyable - wonderful food, excellent service and good value. Why one keeps returning.
Great lunch whilst waiting for the grandchildren who were at The Mistley Kitchen. All the staff were friendly and attentive. Food was great.
Amazing meal. Would highly recommend to others. Will definitely be returning
We visited on Valentines night and the place was packed. Our food was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. As the evening wore however, the service suffered due to the sheer number of diners. We had to wait over half an hour for our desserts. I also felt the tables were a little close together for comfort. All that being said I can’t wait to go back at a quieter time.
A lovely evening spent at the Thorn. Delicious food, great wine and fantastic service. Our waiter unsurpassed efforts to give us great service. My husband accidently gave him too much money and instead of assuming it was a very large tip came back to us to check. He is a keeper!! Thank you 😊.
Overall we were disappointed in the standard of cooking especially as our lunch was at the start of service. The menu was liberally scattered throughout, with nuts of all varieties! Warning most dishes contained nuts. The home made bread was really nice, though it might of been nice to of been offered more of it to accompany our starters. The starters were more heavy handed style than substance. I had smoked salmon and beetroot which was ok but my brother’s had the pancake which as a recipe didn’t work. Our main course choice, chicken was unfortunately rather dried out. Portion size was good. I have been to this restaurant on several occasions over the years and had been happy to recommend but this was not the meal it could so easily of been. Standards have slipped.
Excellent lunch as usual
