About Mistley Thorn
The Mistley Thorn is located in the centre of the historic coastal village of Mistley and is two minutes walk from Mistley station which has direct services to Colchester, Harwich and London Liverpool Street. Built as a coaching inn circa 1723, The Mistley Thorn offers award-winning dining and accommodation in tastefully designed surroundings opposite the River Stour. American born executive chef Sherri Singleton has developed a menu using the best of the area’s seasonal produce.
Last minute booking. Delicious, fresh fish, cooked to perfection as always. Slip soles, in particular, were superb. Great service too. Highly recommend the Thorn!
Excelent food, choice of drinks and great service
Fantastic evening - we loved it!
Lovely food thank you
The "Locals' Menu" was dated for the evening we were there, and comprised three choices for each of the three courses. The six different dishes we chose were all very good indeed. It was a fine meal, and very good value.
All four of us had the battered haddock. Three out of the four felt the batter was too over cooked and very greasy, and that the chips were completely the opposite, I.e. floppy and non crispy. I did mention the greasiness to staff member, who apologised. Desserts were lovely.
Very friendly and unpretentious. Fresh local fish and plentiful vegetables.
As ever very good meal and service. Only downside we thought the portions were a bit tight making it slightly pricey. Will still be coming back though to one of our favourite local restaurants.
Lovely seafood meal, good value, and additional benefit of being dog friendly
Excellent, would highly recommend and definitely revisit. Gillian
Great seafood and fish, always fresh and good value!
A little mean on the bread . It arrives with a flourish and olive oil , then you select a cube !
Our party shared a seafood starter which was good, but the squid was over cooked, the main courses were no better than average!! Very very disappointing and wouldn’t go back!!
Staff were young inexperienced & initial front of house were abrupt, got better as evening progressed. Had been given a totally empty balsamic vinegar bottle ??? My tempora Zucchini starter had over cooked chips mixed in. The finer details needed to be addressed
Service and food always excellent. Whenever we bring friends or family with us they are always impressed. So lucky to have such as our local restaurant.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, food is delicious, excellent service and friendly waitress, will definitely return.
We had a late sitting with a large party on a Sunday afternoon. Not quite the level of service or food that I’ve had with a smaller group during the week.
Another lovely meal at the Mistley Thorn, and the house wine was superb. Unfortunately on this occasion, the service was a little slow.
We had s league table for dinner and a set menu which was delicious and great vslue! The service team were smiling, attentive and friendlet We had a lovely night all round thank you
A perfect lunch with friends.
Disappointed that they had run out of several items on the menu. We were seated behind the bar so didn't get the optimum atmosphere, apart from this nicely busy. Service very good, but would have liked a cooler for the white wine - had to ask again for ice.
Great fish dishes, with an estuary view.
Great food in nice surroundings. We are never disappointed when we visit.
