About Willow by Charlie Palmer at Mirbeau - Rhinebeck
Mirbeau Inn & Spa Rhinebeck offers the amenities of a French chateau, a world-class spa, and casually elegant dining, all with the comfort and residential feel of a private estate.
Rachel was fantastic. The food was perfect.
Seriously......the worst meal I have had in a long time. No craft cocktails??? Really! Pretty sure my vodka on the rocks was diluted with water! Cranberry out of a gun!!! Come on! Food greasy no taste and raw! So disappointed. Date night disaster! Then as we are driving home I get a call saying our credit card was denied! So...I called my credit card company and they said everything was fine with my card. Not worth my time to drive over or my money. Facebook blast Don't go!
This restaurant has growing pains. I am going to list the good AND the areas in need of improvement because I really would like to return and try the spa, etc. The food was prepared very nicely and was good, yet pricey. A lunch for 4 with one drink was $300 including tip. This is NYC pricing but not "up to snuff" on so many other levels. First, no signage to let you know where the restaurant is except for a little one on the entrance road to a very large parking lot that ends at a large building with several entrances. You only see the name of the spa Mirbeau. Had to ask people leaving if Willow was in the building. What were they thinking? You would intuit that? The entrance is a hotel lobby and the restaurant feels like it's part of the lobby. Odd. We were seated in a formal feeling dining room, with our coats...I had to ask if there was a coat check and then they took them. The bar area looked very chic, but the main dining room was a pseudo attempt at French elegance with a dated chandelier in the center that was way too bright. It looked like two different designers had worked on the bar and that space. Tacky dollar store looking bud vases with a single red rose bud should be immediately eliminated. An elegant votive would had added a bit of charm and atmosphere in an otherwise cold environment. We sat for 15 minutes before the waitress came over and were not asked if we wanted drinks, just what to order for lunch. I asked if we could order drinks first. She took that and the lunch order and of course the drinks came and almost immediately after that, our lunch...timing! My order was incorrect and had to be taken back. The staff seemed very willing but very shorthanded with only 2 people in the dining room. The presentation of the food was nicely done except for a pumpkin cake dessert that was served in the same dish as the large salad bowls which seemed odd given how beautiful the other dishes were presented. I must say that I am a restaurant designer and so may have a more detailed account given my experience and knowledge of design and front of the house etiquette, so my standards might be a little different. However, our lovely but inexperienced waitress served us wearing a white blouse that had food stains up the sleeves which were quite noticeable. All said, the dining experience was rocky but the cuisine stood up under all of the pretentious decor, questionable art, and service problems. We then proceeded to the spa area where the desk is set near another enormous chandelier, this time of Swarovski crystal. Really out of place. Does Willow know that this is Rhinebeck? Nothing speaks to the charm and history of the place...iron and rock crystal might have been a better choice if you going for Franco-chic. It pained me to see this expensive effort so misspent. My guests and I asked for a tour of the spa to be told that tours were not given, but this kindly person behind the desk would give us one anyway. No tours? Why not? We are new, potential customers that want to see the facility, no? Someone needs to really train these lovely people. Anyway, the spa relaxation room was really well done and beautiful. I would definitely book a treatment seeing that serene setting. This couldn't be the same designer as the rest of the place! My final recommendation to this addition to Rhinebeck...tone it down, lower the dining room lighting (or get rid of that chandelier), put up a screen division between the lobby and that area and bone up on the service. The place really has great potential...if you can find it! To start, try putting a sign on the building for the restaurant.
It was excellent but disappointed they wouldn’t give us the potatoes we wanted to pay for that were on a different meal
We enjoyed our dinner and lunch.. food and presentation done well. Seth had good wine knowledge; however, our server did not know if we were on appetizers or desserts. Lighting is too bright in the dining room. But over all, a fine dining experience.
We had a wonderful experience at Mirbeau. I do wish we had a bit more time for lunch and the treatments we were given. It is a new business and some of the communication between the restaurant and the spa seemed to breakdown. But as time goes on I'm sure that will get ironed out. It was their first brunch offered, and only one waitress was working. Luckily the bartender - Asia was there to help with service and she waited on my table. She was exceptional, attentive and wonderful, as was the hostess (didn't catch her name) I'm sure going forward there will be more staff, as the popularity grows. Looking forward to another "girls spa day" at Mirbeau again very soon. We all felt very lucky to have this in our very own town.
More vegan and vegetarian options.
Food was terrific, unfortunately a lot of the staff didn't know what they were serving and we had to ask them each time what the dish was. The pacing was fairly slow and we kept having to ask for bread for a snack. Wish we could have substituted out the dessert as most people in our group did not like mango.
Our waitress was awesome. Drinks were great, all of the food was outstanding.
Dissatisfied with quality of food and service. New Years Eve is a challenge for most food establishments. At 6:45, the restaurant should not run out of bread, on any night. The salmon was under cooked and cold. 20 minutes to get 3 scoops of sorbet???? Not good. I would never recommend this restaurant. Take a walk into town. There are half a dozen restaurants that are available.
It’s our 2nd visit to Willow & we were hoping it improved substantially since Thanksgiving our 1st visit which was a disaster , sadly it came up short , same menu but none of Charlie Palmer’s classic dishes we’re familiar . Service was outstanding , Maxwell really worked but he was the only server in that big room . The food was not bad but should be outstanding in a town that has many better dining experiences . Please take this criticism constructively It’s a great dining room in an outstanding Hotel & staff Let’s get it right & be the best in town , nothing less will be acceptable
the food was outstanding however the decor and setting were bizarre and not even remotely on par with the food. the dining room needs to be set apart from the lobby, the hostess station was on top of the table, there was no coat check, the artwork was juvenile, the bathrooms were nauseatingly contrast-y, the chandelier misplaced. in general, a decision needs to be made about whether the vibe is european cosmopolitan (if so - why rhinebeck ?) or country sophisticated (yes please). the service was spotty but earnest, just needs more exposure to the rhythm of a haute cuisine kitchen, which Willow certainly is.
Excellent food. I had the veal chop and it was cooked to perfection. My wife had the filet mignon and she loved it. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and they made it special. Highly recommend it. We will definitely be back.
Thank you for the great service and food!
My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner and scrumptious dessert. The servers were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We will definitely be back!
Food was delicious, service friendly; nice atmosphere.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. So thrilled we live less than 30 minutes away so we can visit often. Thank you for bringing Mirbeau to Dutchess County. :)
We stayed of two nights from Dec 24-26. Hotel is nice but food for Christmas Day dinner pre fix was not good. Not worth the $200 spent
The wait staff needs help. One person was handling 5-6 tables and while she was very pleasant, we did have to wait for many items. In addition, a table that came in after us was served before we received our food. This was my second time there in one week and I had the same experience twice with two separate wait staff people. You need more help.
Great food, service, and atmosphere.
