Metropolitan is situated in the heart of the Merchant City in Glasgow, and comprises a stylish cocktail bar and 200 cover restaurant spread over our Balconies, intimate Booths and Private Dining Areas - open until 3am every Friday and Saturday.
We are just as serious about our food as we are about our cocktails…
Overlooking the Merchant Square our Balcony Restaurant is the perfect setting for any occasion. Spend an evening in the restaurant being looked after by our friendly staff then head on through to the Piano Bar for after dinner cocktails and entertainment from our talented pianists. Experience a variety of fresh and exciting dishes on our Scottish restaurant menu lovingly prepared by our experienced kitchen team. The restaurant is a popular choice for large party dinners as well as small intimate meals for two. We are more than happy to cater for everyone.
Afternoon Tea is served Friday – Sunday
Sittings at either 12.30pm and 2.30pm

Fantastic night as usual had a few dinners in here fab x
Great dining experience-we will be back!
Great meal & drinks in a lovely setting with brilliant service. Will definitely be back.
Excellent service from the staff both during the day when I had to drop balloons and cakes off through to the staff in the evening. Special thanks to Cara who went above and beyond to make it a special night for my Daughter Carly's 18th Birthday.
Great service for a really good price! Came for a hen weekend lunch for 12 people and the restaurant made personalised menus for the meal, there was a great choice of food and no one had to pick food in advance (made it easier for us to organise). Couldn’t fault the staff on the day and the atmosphere was perfect. Would definitely come back if I was organising another big meal in Glasgow!
Overall service, venue and food would highly recommend
Great value for money
Afternoon tea was poor. We asked for no egg sandwiches and still got them anyway. Scone and buns seemed like they were bought from tesco and cut up. No butter for scone. All round poor show. Sandwiches were reasonable but not good value for money at all. A childrens festival was on in the courtyard which was incredibly noisy and awful and we were seated right at the balcony. Had to ask to move which was fine. Not the restaurants fault, but maybe would have been polite to ask us first if we wanted to sit there or be seated somewhere quieter. Would not recommend. Seems like a place for a drink after work and nothing else. Very half assed.
Food was lovely when it eventually came, waited 1hr 20mins in starter then a further hour on mains
I thought my glass of wine was quite pricey at £7.50 for a house wine.
Food was delicious and the servce was really attentive!! We sat in the square and the place was buzzing, so overall, a fab lunch out!!
A huge thank you to Gemma, Roisin, Keri and the team at the Metropolitan for making our wedding reception absolutely perfect! We had our reception in the beautiful private dining room - the food and cocktails were superb and it was such a lovely, welcoming atmosphere. Gemma and Roisin made the whole experience as stress-free as possible, and we're so grateful. Thanks also to Roisin's Mum for the place cards! ;) Lindsay and Ricky
lovely meal !
Lovely meal & staff very friendly
Food was amazing, staff were fantastic and the early evening menu is great value. The cocktails are delicious but quite overpriced.
Was really disappointed with our visit , The area where we had our table was absolutely stifling hot making all the guests very uncomfortable. I don't feel the staff were to blame with regards to this however I'm sure we couldn't have been the first to complane about the heat due to the recent warm temperatures we have been having. The food was tasteless, nice presentation but very bland and the service was extremely slow . I can honestly say I won't be back in the metropolitan for a meal , possibly a cocktail or a drink at the bar as there was a good atmosphere.
Great location & excellent food - good visit.
One of the worst dinning experiences I have had. I have never been to a restaurant where you have to get out of your seat to ask for menus for the table?? We went for the a la carte menu only to find out there was no salmon or sea bass. The salt and chili squid which my partner ordered was suppose to come with an aioli dip but instead came with a standard sweet chilli dip...not what is written on your menu. The wine which we selected came, eventually ,after returning the first bottle as it was not what we had ordered. My partner ordered the beatroot and parmesan rissotto for main course. When she asked for parmessan to garnish the top of her meal the waiter politely said no problem and went to the kitchen to get the parmesan...only to come back to tell her that the parmesan ‘ was already in the rissotto ‘ according to the cheff (There was no parmesan.. or flavour in the risotto). I found this extremely rude and also confusing. It is a very basic thing to ask for some parmesan for the top of a risotto or pasta dish. I made it quite clear that we would like some parmesan for our meals to the waiter so they returned to the kitchen to find some. 5 minutes later we see our waiter walking across merchant square to the nearby Italian restaurant to ask for parmesan... I found this comical and had had enough by his point. Not only was there no parmesan in your restaurant?? but the cheff thought it was okay to lie to the customer about our meals having parmesan in them in the first place... as outlined in your menu. I personally had the haggis for main course which may well have been some of the driest food I have ever eaten. We have been to the Metropolitan several times in the past. Its easy to see standards have dropped if not gone entirely when it comes to food. I have outlined only half of the issues that were wrong with our dining experience but if you eat or work there personally I am sure you are probably already aware of these issues. We will not be back to the metropolitan for food or drink in the future.
On arriving, was told there were various dishes unavailable. Also the restaurant was uncomfortabley hot so we left without eating and went elsewhere.
Had my daughters graduation dinner in the private dining room it was absolutely brilliant with plenty of space to move as it's a lovely big bright area, food and cocktails were fab, the waiter worked his socks off all night, will def be back
