About Mercat Bar & Kitchen
Looking for the perfect place to meet friends and family, relax, unwind and debrief from work? Then look no further than the Mercat. Whether you want to catch up over a craft beer or quality European lager, share a great bottle of wine or enjoy an excellent meal out in fine surroundings, then make the Mercat your destination.
We are an independent neighbourhood bar and kitchen that has drawn inspiration from the local area and its people, to create a stylish yet relaxed backdrop that welcomes you in to make the space your own whatever time or day. We specialise in simple, seasonal, locally sourced food with a Scottish twist.
We’ve got a smart and expansive basement room, quality coffee, a brunch menu to wake up for, craft beers, a fine selection of gin and malt whiskies, sociable sharing plates, and a late licence until 1am on Friday and Saturday with great tunes creating the perfect soundtrack to your weekend.
We look forward to welcoming you soon!
No knowledge of any booking. It was mums birthday. She chose here. Customers had to move to allow for us to get a table as there were 6 of us. Our food was incorrect. My mums breakfast had half of the items mentioned on the menu.
Party of 10 of us, and we were very well looked after, especially as there only seemed to be one person serving food and drink. Feedback from everyone was that the food was great, drink was good and they’d all go back!
No bread, so sandwiches were off the menu. We hadn’t particularly planned to have sandwiches, so it didn’t really affect us but I though it odd that, on a VERY quiet Saturday afternoon, one of the team couldn’t have popped along to Tesco Express or the Co-op (both within a few minutes’ walk),to buy some bread???? Anyway, the food we had was tasty, wine by the bottle was good value, so all pretty positive. Pleasant staff. I don’t think this place is as good as it was a few years ago (before the makeover), but it’s slowly getting better.
Food and drink were amazing as always, perhaps a little noisy. I like this place and return from time to time.
Good food, great atmosphere and great service. I’ve been a few times now and will definitely be back.
Very busy with rugby, football and regular weekend patrons. Asked if we could have our table early which was very well accommodated. Table we were allocated was in an area which , well frankly stank like a latrine. Very very off putting. The food was fine - though shell on prawns served without a finger bowl or wet wipes is quite a basic error. Staff were fine - not particularly warm or welcoming and rather abrupt at times (also had to ask for table to be cleared of which only one visit to table and half the plates were taken away). I know its busy but thats the object of the bar - to be busy. Overall it was ok but i certainly shant rush to return.
Lovely place to have dinner. The food is amazing and the portions are plentiful. Would definitely recommend
Booked easily on-line. Called to add an extra person and this was done with no difficulty. Food freshly cooked and well presented - tasty and very good value.
Very impressed. I’ll definitely be back.
Good food, at reasonable prices, nice friendly, helpful staff. What’s not to like?
Nice food and excellent service although a bit on the expensive side for pub grub.
Excellent service on Saturday despite large group being catered for downstairs; food excellent and excellent personable woman who served us. Would recommend
Nicht touristisch überlaufen. Freundlich, aufgeschlossenes Personal, leckeres Essen
I didn't actually stay - the bar was so loud and busy, it was difficult to hear yourself speak. The service was non existent and even altho I was sitting at the back of the bar, there was cigarette smoke blowing in from outside - totally unpleasant experience for the whole time I was in there. Wouldn't bother coming back.
What a great evening meeting up with friends in this vibrant bar and as friends we tend to hook up here as perfect for the train at Haymarket station. Great staff always attentive charming and funny makes a great difference when dining out. Starters and main courses and one desert made for yet another great night. I’m not a gun fan but two of my group went along the Bar as far they could while the us chaps delved into the world of whisky and the manager directed us with the history of it all, he joined in for one only. We love coming here and after another great night we will be back next time we are all together in town
Used the private room for sales meeting. Made to feel really welcome, great coffee on arrival, room all set up ready for our meeting, an excellent lunch. Stuart the manager worked really hard to ensure we had everything we needed. Will definitely be back.
