About Megan's Old Town (Clapham)
Megan's Old Town is a Mediterranean restaurant in Clapham, offering all day dining from all day brunch, to lunch, to evening grill. Famous for its instagrammable setting and delicious 'posh' kebabs.
Came with 10 of my friends last night and although there was initially confusion with the table, once it was sorted the rest of the evening was great - the service was fantastic, the food was great and they even bought me out a dessert with a candle - lovely touch. Would recommend!
We made a Saturday lunch reservation one month in advance of visiting Meghan's in Clapham Old Town because our lunch party included two babies and a dog (not everywhere in Clapham is child and dog friendly). We made sure to confirm the booking two days beforehand so that we would not run into any trouble on the day. We turned up at Meghan's on the Saturday of our reservation only to be told that our reservation had not been transferred over to the new booking system. The hostess at Meghan's was apologetic but said there was nothing she could do because Saturday is their busiest day of the week and they had many other large bookings. Eventually, after about 15 minutes of me explaining the situation (i.e. that we too had made a reservation for that exact reason), the hostess agreed to see if there was any way she could accommodate us. In my opinion, this should have been the initial response to the situation instead of being immediately turned away with an apology. Our party of 10 (including 2 babies and 1 dog), were squeezed onto a 6 person table and offered one round of drinks on the house. We had no choice but to accept the table because at such last minute notice, our chances of being seated for lunch anywhere else in Clapham were low. After being seated (and scouring the restaurant ourselves for a high chair despite having specially requested one in our advance booking), it took almost 30 minutes for anyone to take our drinks order and we had to seek out a waitress to take our food order when it became clear that no one in particular was looking after our table. The music was so loud in the restaurant that we spent a lot of our meal either yelling across the table at one another or not saying anything at all. Additionally, the tables were also so close together that we had to squeeze in and out if we wanted to use the facilities. Even though the food and drinks were nice, we decided not to have dessert or another drink and had to ask three times for our bill to be brought to the table. In one word, I would describe the lunch as chaotic. This is the third time I have been to Meghan's in Clapham now - once for breakfast, once for lunch and once for dinner. On each occasion the service has been extremely slow. This is not a criticism of the staff at Meghan's, I simply think there are not enough waiters and the kitchens are too small to facilitate such a large restaurant with so many diners. Initially, I thought the restaurant was experiencing teething problems as they were new to the neighbourhood, but after Saturday's experience it is unlikely I will ever eat here again.
One of the guests ordered garlic flat bread and was presented with a meditarian platter. When the guest said she did not order the platter the waitress insisted she did order the platter. As my guest was so hungry she took it. We were not charged for it. The same person wanted baklava there was none left. One person ordered the Calamari and was upset as another person had a bigger portion who was sitting opposite. The service seemed a little slow even though we had pre-ordered the meal.
I have been several times before but this was the worst visit. Sunday early evening. The staff sent away to save money. Half the area closed off. Background music so loud impossible to have conversation. Service slow and forgetful. Disappointing. I hope the management are not now getting arrogant and complacent. That is what happened with predecessor Del Aziz. Bust 18 months later after a great start.
The food was great in a very pretty setting but the service was severely lacking, we were greeted by a nod and it took 20 minutes to get served, each course was served by a different person and no one really seemed to know what was going on.
Always have a lovely time at Megan's and Friday night was no exception! Perfect for dinner with the girls, drinks with the boyfriend, brunch with the mother! Food is great value, drinks are very good
Food was really good and the design and atmosphere was fantastic. The only negative thing would be that I found it a bit too noisy at times, we had to shout at each other to have a conversation in our table. Other than that great! I will come back
The food wasn’t good and the atmosphere was great. However the service was terrible from our waitress, who did not offer any explanation of the limitations of the bottomless brunch and couldn’t be bothered to refill our drinks our pay us any mind whatsoever. Other waitresses in the area were helpful, but after 30mins with no drink refill on a bottomless brunch we opted to cancel the bottomless option and simply leave. Will NOT be back.
Service was dreadful but food was nice seemed too busy for staff to handle
Disappointing salads that looked lovely but all tasted the same. Vast amounts put on the plate that was rather off putting and such a waste of food. No one finished off their food. No wonder they always run out!
Could have been a bit more personal. Felt it didnt mean a lot.
Lovely atmosphere, delicious food and friendly staff.
Despite the beautifully fairy-lit room, the lighting was all a bit wrong creating a slightly strange atmosphere. A lot of things seemed to come with flat bread and all the finished plates seem to have loads of food left on them. I don’t remember this from the Kings Road branch where I often used to get some lovely light but colourful and delicious salads. Service was very friendly.
The staff yesterday were wonderful!
The chilli chicken was far too spicy! I couldn’t eat it. There should be a warning on the menu, as it wasn’t enjoyable to eat.
I can see on your tripadvisor reviews that service is an issue. I hoped it wouldn’t be for our visit but it really was. For such a nice restaurant it would be such a shame if you continue to ruin people’s experiences with such awful service. I hope you can sort it soon.
Food is very nice and service is pretty good although I think they need more staff as sometimes things are slow and waiting staff are hard to find (getting the bills for instance). I like the style which is deconstructed and suits small plates and sharing. It can be a bit crowded and noisy though and you often have to book! Drinks variety is pretty limited.
Great food and wine. Service could do with some work. Went for the 2 courses for £16, which is great but the bill arrived wrong and we ended up paying more for no reason. Will return in the hope the service is better
Service was rubbish. Arrived and were stood waiting for ages before anyone acknowledged us, despite several members of staff walking past and avoiding eye contact. Ordered food and it came within 5 minutes, which is poor service because then we were finished within 20 minutes of arriving. Had to ask for the bill 3 times and it never came, eventually got up to leave and only then did someone bring the bill. Staff weren’t particularly friendly. The venue is beautiful, although very busy. Food was good.
Stunning venue, helpful staff, delicious food, highly recommended.
Lovely place and great food!! Will definitely be returning
My girlfriend and I went here to celebrate being together for 8 years. I mentioned this in the booking and the staff knew exactly who we were and wishing us a happy anniversary when we arrived. They thought of everything, from the best table in the house to a complimentary glass of Prosecco waiting for us on the table. It was truly an amazing evening made very special by the great Megan’s staff. Thank you all!
Really enjoyed our meal. Lovely atmosphere and the service was fantastic. This is our second visit. Will definitely be back.
