Come and meet our baker Nick Anderson at Mayfield Farm Bakery and see the bread being made by hand, the traditional way. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the beautiful rural setting and choose your bread and cakes to take home.
We believe in good, wholesome food, traditionally made without the use of unnecessary preservatives and colourings. We are keen to use the very best ingredients and from the closest source, keeping food miles to a minimum and our impact on the environment as small as possible.
Mayfield Farm Bakery & School was established in 2010 by Nick and Jane Anderson. Nick has been a baker all his life having worked for his family business for many years and more recently opening his own bakeries in Epping and Cambridge.
This bakery was opened in a farm yard setting with the aim of being very experimental and fundamentally different from a typical High Street Bakery pushing the boundaries of the excepted usual breads.

About Mayfield Farm Bakery + School
A little bit of what you fancy does you good, or so they say. We provide an area for the community to come together, whether it be for a social lunch, afternoon tea or your own private function. Whatever you choose, our friendly atmosphere is the perfect place to relax.
Set lunches are served in the tea rooms, the menu changes regularly depending on the fresh ingredients that are available from Spittlefield’s Fruit and vegetable market. All the food is prepared here on the premises either by the cooks in the kitchen or our bakers and patisserie chef. A menu such as quiche and a selection of deli salads finishing off with lemon tart and tea or coffee. We serve a limited selection of wine and beer and Luscombes organic fruit juices in addition to teas and coffees.
Afternoon Tea is very popular here at Mayfield Farm Bakery, our traditional afternoon tea consists of a selection of freshly made sandwiches, the bread is finely sliced and the crusts removed making perfect dainty afternoon sandwiches, we only use real butter and the fillings are also freshly prepared or cooked here. Two Dainty scones made by our bakers on the day of your Afternoon Tea – they are served with Thursday Cottage jam made in Tiptree in Essex. The Clotted Cream comes from The Devon Cream Company who produce the best quality clotted cream available. Four mini patisserie, all our patisserie is made by our patisserie chef's – they will make for you, on the day a selection of delicate cakes and pastries taking into account your special dietary requirements. We are now also offering a variety of speciality and themed afternoon teas throughout the year including a Chocolate Lovers tea, a Spooky Halloween tea and of course a Christmas afternoon tea.
As it was my sister birthday. I treated her to the cream tea it was wonderful they even put a candle into one of the cakes. Sandwiches with all the different breads and fillings was so nice. lots of cakes. Couldn't eat it all so took home some of the cakes in a boxes.

Afternoon tea for my mum on her birthday. Everyone made her feel so special and the food was wonderful. Thank you to everyone at Mayfield Farm x
Excellent day spent learning skills and tricks of the trade from Guiseppe. I thoroughly enjoyed the course, the atmosphere was friendly and I learned a great deal (but eat too much). I am looking forward to my next course!
The talk was very amusing - thank you Butterfly ! Scones delicious. We would have preferred the cream/jam in pots rather than jars. Very noisy as such a large group all together. We struggled to hear ourselves at a table for 2.
Realiy friendly staff and amazing food. Thank you
A lovely cafe within a beautiful farm shop, selling lots of fresh and yummy goodies. Our cream tea was set up and ready for our arrival. Adventurous choice of sandwiches and cakes and excellent service (our waitress was lovely and helpful) would go again.
Brilliant place for Afternoon Tea. It was all ready when we arrived and the service was amazing.
Sunday Afternoon Tea was so lovely. I booked it for my husband who had been to the Corinthia (London 5*) last month and he said yours was better. The sandwiches where so lovely with the tasty bread .....cheese and pickle were our favourite and the cakes were stunning. The service was just right. Will definitely be back
What an enjoyable way to spend the day. Informative, so friendly and knowledgeable - we made so much bread and it was all delicious. I cannot wait to book another course and learn more.
An excellent afternoon tea celebration. Staff were very attentive and explained all the ingredients which was interesting as the sandwiches were made with different breads.Everything very fresh, gorgeous little cakes and scones, washed down with prosecco and endless tea!! Would highly recommend!
Absolutely lovely afternoon with afternoon tea would definitely recommend for people to buy as a gift. The staff are professional but friendly and proprietors great. Also I went on a baking day last year with lunch and would throughly recommend that too. Once again thank you Mrs Belinda Beute
Absolutely loved it here. The food is delicious and the service attentive but subtle. We weren't rushed at all and even boxed up the cakes we couldn't manage. Highly recommended.
I have recently completed the Skills and Techniques baking course. It was a great day picking up hints and tips to make good breads, lovely ideas for flavoured breads that I can not wait to try at home. Lunch was very good, quiche and cake made at the bakery, and served with excellent service. A group of 10 people which was a nice size and overseen by Nick. It was so interesting to hear about the history of the bakery together with social history surrounding those times. A fabulous day and I can not wait to try another course.
I attended the basic bread making course in early June. The atmosphere was informal, instructive and supportive and I actually made 2 very edible loaves! A very good day out.
The food and service was lovely, very friendly relaxing atmosphere. Altogether a lovely experience.
The range of breads is fantastic and the afternoon tea is lovely. There is a nice, quiet, friendly atmosphere and the staff were excellent.
We really enjoyed our afternoon tea, a lovely treat for my birthday.
I would like to thank you on behalf of the W I group Much Hadham for such a wonderful visit last month. We all enjoyed the family history you shared with us together with the photographs so we could put faces to the names. The lunch was especially delicious, that goes for everything served to us that afternoon. We were made to fell special and the complimentary loaves of bread was an added treat. I can't wait until my next visit. Patricia Vaughan W I member.
It was a very pleasant experience, with very appetising sandwiches and lovely cakes.
Had a wonderful day at the bakery; learnt a lot,and picked up useful tips on baking by the Master Baker, Nick. Lovely lunch with some very amicable fellow amateur bakers, all of which, I sure enjoyed the day as much as I did.

Another great baking experience at Mayfield Bakery! A fun and relaxed day! Highly recommended. Learned so much, I now know why my bread is flat and who knew where cranberries come from!!! Want to know?! Book a day and Nick will enlighten you 😁
