Come and meet our baker Nick Anderson at Mayfield Farm Bakery and see the bread being made by hand, the traditional way. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the beautiful rural setting and choose your bread and cakes to take home.
We believe in good, wholesome food, traditionally made without the use of unnecessary preservatives and colourings. We are keen to use the very best ingredients and from the closest source, keeping food miles to a minimum and our impact on the environment as small as possible.
Mayfield Farm Bakery & School was established in 2010 by Nick and Jane Anderson. Nick has been a baker all his life having worked for his family business for many years and more recently opening his own bakeries in Epping and Cambridge.
This bakery was opened in a farm yard setting with the aim of being very experimental and fundamentally different from a typical High Street Bakery pushing the boundaries of the excepted usual breads.

About Mayfield Farm Bakery + School
A little bit of what you fancy does you good, or so they say. We provide an area for the community to come together, whether it be for a social lunch, afternoon tea or your own private function. Whatever you choose, our friendly atmosphere is the perfect place to relax.
Set lunches are served in the tea rooms, the menu changes regularly depending on the fresh ingredients that are available from Spittlefield’s Fruit and vegetable market. All the food is prepared here on the premises either by the cooks in the kitchen or our bakers and patisserie chef. A menu such as quiche and a selection of deli salads finishing off with lemon tart and tea or coffee. We serve a limited selection of wine and beer and Luscombes organic fruit juices in addition to teas and coffees.
Afternoon Tea is very popular here at Mayfield Farm Bakery, our traditional afternoon tea consists of a selection of freshly made sandwiches, the bread is finely sliced and the crusts removed making perfect dainty afternoon sandwiches, we only use real butter and the fillings are also freshly prepared or cooked here. Two Dainty scones made by our bakers on the day of your Afternoon Tea – they are served with Thursday Cottage jam made in Tiptree in Essex. The Clotted Cream comes from The Devon Cream Company who produce the best quality clotted cream available. Four mini patisserie, all our patisserie is made by our patisserie chef's – they will make for you, on the day a selection of delicate cakes and pastries taking into account your special dietary requirements. We are now also offering a variety of speciality and themed afternoon teas throughout the year including a Chocolate Lovers tea, a Spooky Halloween tea and of course a Christmas afternoon tea.
I spent a great day learning the basics of making bread. In the 6 hours we made tons of loaves to take home, all of which were really tasty! Our tutor Nick and his assistant Giovanni were great fun, fantastic hosts and knowledgeable, which all adds to making the course a great experience. We also share a delicious lunch while our breads were in the oven! I left feeling confident that I will bake my own bread in the future safe in the knowledge that I knew the secrets! As I say, it was great day and I learnt loads. Mayfield Farm is definitely a great place to visit for so many reasons.
We had a lovely day attending the Bakery School, Nick is very interesting and friendly. We laughed all day! Learnt so much, thank you!
My husband, friend and I had an informative and enjoyable day which has enthused us to start baking bread. We’ll be back for the next course. Thank you for a lovely lunch and an extra hour and a half of your time Nick.
Lovely afternoon tea, very delicious, very helpful and friendly staff. Will definitely come again.
Lovely food n service. Loved the new look just a shame we had time slot. But overall fantastic
I brought my best friend for afternoon tea for her 40th birthday surprise. She was thrilled and we had a lovely time. The food and tea was delicious as always at the Mayfield. We were even given some extra cakes, with 40 written in icing on them, with candles for her to blow out. This was such a lovely gesture that made the experience even more special. Customer service is always fantastic and I will definitely be returning as soon as I have an excuse and will recommend highly to all my friends.
Afternoon tea was lovely. Only criticism I have was being asked if we wanted tea or coffee before we had even sat down. It arrived immediately as did our sandwiches and cakes and glass of Prosecco. Would have liked to soak up atmosphere and slowly enjoy our first experience. Also coffee which arrived beautifully presented was so so weak. I should have sent it back but I didn’t . I would definitely go back and be more vocal about my coffee if need be.
Lovely afternoon tea with selection of sandwiches made from specialty breads. Would definitely come again.
Fantastic food. Love the shops here too.
Sad to read that your loyal breakfast/lunch customers are not going to be catered for from 1.10.2018. It has always been a lovely place to have a lunch. Ah well, I’ll find somewhere else to meet friends for lunch.
Dear Mrs Lynn, Thank you for your review, we are very glad to hear that you enjoy coming to us for lunch. You will still be able to visit us for breakfast - we will be serving breakfast items in the bakery and farm shop such as sausage or bacon rolls and croissants. There will also be weekly social lunches for anyone to attend which will have a set menu, so you will be able to meet your friends for a lovely lunch, or maybe even one of our new afternoon teas. We hope to see you again soon. Kind regards Corrie
First time been for breakfast perfect sad to hear not going to be doing brekkie much longer will be back for lunch or tea.
Dear Mrs Birchall, Thank you very much for your lovely review, we are so happy you enjoyed your breakfast. You will still be able to get breakfast from us from the farm shop and bakery such as bacon or sausage rolls and filled croissants. We look forward to seeing you at one of our social lunches and to try some of our new special afternoon teas! Kind regards Corrie
We had a lovely afternoon tea with my mum, mother in law and cousin, the service was brilliant and attentive. Would book again! Xx
Fantastic afternoon tea! Sumptuous food in a lovely setting and wonderful staff. Would highly recommend
I would have like my Eggs Benedict served on a normal plate not on a slate, also more hollandaise sauce would have been nice.
Dear Mr Cutts, Sorry about this sir, do ask one of the waitresses next time you are in and they can put your breakfast on a plate for you. Please just ask if you would like some more hollandaise sauce next time as we are more than happy to give you some extra. We hope to see you for a visit soon. Kind regards Corrie
Lovely visit as always could do with another rasher of bacon on the breakfast
I wouldn't know if it was value for money as it was a birthday present from a friend, but it was really lovely with very helpful staff, everyone was lovely in the restaurant and the shops
Lovely Afternoon Tea.
Lovely afternoon tea .
Lovely start to a Sunday morning Everything’s g great
Delicious breakfast and a good cup of tea.
this is my third visit for breakfast, as usual the quality of the breakfast was good and the speciality breads are amazing. The hot chocolate was very milky, so wouldn't have this again. Manageress was very accommodating with our order and explained there may be a delay which we were happy with.
Very enjoyable lunch - fab food and not rushed at all. Would definitely recommend.
Absolutely loved it 5 stars from me.
I had never been to Mayfield Farm before. The afternoon tea was wonderful. Will definitely be going back.
