We believe in good, wholesome food, traditionally made without the use of unnecessary preservatives and colourings. We are keen to use the very best ingredients and from the closest source, keeping food miles to a minimum and our impact on the environment as small as possible.
Mayfield Farm Bakery & School was established in 2010 by Nick and Jane Anderson. Nick has been a baker all his life having worked for his family business for many years and more recently opening his own bakeries in Epping and Cambridge.
This bakery was opened in a farm yard setting with the aim of being very experimental and fundamentally different from a typical High Street Bakery pushing the boundaries of the excepted usual breads.

About Mayfield Farm Bakery + School
A little bit of what you fancy does you good, or so they say. We provide an area for the community to come together, whether it be for a social lunch, afternoon tea or your own private function. Whatever you choose, our friendly atmosphere is the perfect place to relax.
Set lunches are served in the tea rooms, the menu changes regularly depending on the fresh ingredients that are available from Spittlefield’s Fruit and vegetable market. All the food is prepared here on the premises either by the cooks in the kitchen or our bakers and patisserie chef. A menu such as quiche and a selection of deli salads finishing off with lemon tart and tea or coffee. We serve a limited selection of wine and beer and Luscombes organic fruit juices in addition to teas and coffees.
Afternoon Tea is very popular here at Mayfield Farm Bakery, our traditional afternoon tea consists of a selection of freshly made sandwiches, the bread is finely sliced and the crusts removed making perfect dainty afternoon sandwiches, we only use real butter and the fillings are also freshly prepared or cooked here. Two Dainty scones made by our bakers on the day of your Afternoon Tea – they are served with Thursday Cottage jam made in Tiptree in Essex. The Clotted Cream comes from The Devon Cream Company who produce the best quality clotted cream available. Four mini patisserie, all our patisserie is made by our patisserie chef's – they will make for you, on the day a selection of delicate cakes and pastries taking into account your special dietary requirements. We are now also offering a variety of speciality and themed afternoon teas throughout the year including a Chocolate Lovers tea, a Spooky Halloween tea and of course a Christmas afternoon tea.
We really enjoyed our afternoon tea. The comments on the way home were all good and we all agreed that we loved the sandwiches made with all the different types of bread. We were pleased to be able to take home the cakes that we couldn’t eat at the time as we enjoyed in the evening. Thank you for a lovely afternoon tea
Enjoyed the afternoon tea with you. Slightly concerned that we were held up on Gilden Way and arrived about 8 minutes late, to find our whole tea was already on the table, uncovered. Sandwiches slightly dry round the edges. Probably made that morning. Extra cash for Prosecco not worth it with such tiny glasses and no refil. Crust not cut off sandwiches as stated above. One scone normal size, not two dainty ones.
I visited with my sister and we both thoroughly enjoyed the food and experience. We will be recommending the afternoon tea to our friends Thanks again for looking after us so well Regards Hilma
I attended the Bakery School for a one day course in bread making. The course was absolutely fantastic and I learned a lot. The course was really well thought out and flowed beautifully. Totally loving that they were able to trace their family roots of bread making right back to the 1800s with photos as well!. Lunch was provided - which I can only describe it as absolutely delicious!! Every single member of staff was friendly and fully clued up about their stock. Love love love this place and have booked to attend the Pizza and Focaccia Bread Making Course... 100% worth a visit!!
I attaneded the Baking School and would throughly recommend the day spent learning some basic yet really useful, practical skills from the very pleasant instructors, Nick and Elfryn. The lunch provided was also superb. Highly Recommended!

What can I say this is the third visit, the courses give all the hints, tips and techniques you need for making the most sumptuous Bread, Pizza's and other bakery delights. Big thank you to Nick for establishing this fantastic bakery and bakery school. My latest adventure with Mayfield farm bakery school was Pizza making...Giovaney lead the teaching and supported by Steve. Thank you so much guys. For hands that do dishes to feel soft as your face go to Giovanni's Pizza and Speciality Bread course where you will end up with baby soft hands after making the Foccacia! i had a wonderful day with Giovanni and Stephen learning the secrets of a great pizza, delicious Foccacia and Garlic Bread with a good group of like minded students. I cant recommend this enough! Therese
I really enjoyed my Baking Skills workshop and would highly recommend the day to anyone wishing to improve or gain bread making skills. The speciality bread we made was delicious.

We went for afternoon tea. It was a mother's day present, although not on the actual day, so it wasn't busy. There was a good assortment of sandwiches (included vegetarian options following an earlier request) and cakes, and the scones, jam and clotted cream were lovely. Lots of tea provided, and a wonderful glass of prosecco too. The service was very good, and everyone was very helpful. This was the first time we had been to the Mayfield Farm Bakery and, on this evidence, we will be going back.

They enjoyed your husbands talk on how it all started up, and is now a long family business, ( they loved his banter) the afternoon tea was fit for a queen, thank you Victoria... the staff very friendly, of course not forgetting yourself, who puts in a lot of hard work to give the customers a full five star ⭐️ treatment, it so deserves...we shall definitely be highly recommending you, and will make a return visit with some more of our members... thank you Val Caplen.
