About Matfen Hall
Classic and contemporary dining in stately surroundings.
Under our acclaimed Executive Chef, Paul Blakey, and Head Chef, Nick Kleist, our cuisine is carefully prepared using the freshest, local ingredients and in season meat and produce.
I was very disappointed with the quality of the crockery. I expected more than very basic pot crockery. This was not in keeping with the surroundings and period of the hall. The cakes and dessert were sweet but lacking in flavour. A disappointing experience that was purchased as a gift.
The gluten free dining was amazing. Thank you.
We had the most amazing time. The catering for gluten free was phenomenal. Thank you
Absolutely wonderful fine dining! From the food to the service, simply perfect. Please thank the staff on our behalf. They were all exemplary.
Was a delightful break, outstanding service throughout, great food and beautiful room.
Fabulous meal in beautiful surroundings.
Great place for a special treat!
Fabulous food and excellent service.
As usual service exemplary. Food perfect. Overall absolutely fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed all our food. Afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast.
The food at Matfen Hall, especially in the Library Restaurant doesn't disappoint. Presentation and taste is amazing. Being picky there could be more choice on the dessert menu but still tastes great. Level of service is exceptional in all areas of Matfen Hall.
The gluten free option was as good as the normal one
Everything was delicious, the Library is a lovely room and the waiter gave us fantastic service. We will definitely be back!
The Romanian waiter was so lovely and charming. Food was amazing, would highly recommend and will come back with family and friends.
When we arrived the staff made no attempt to help us find somewhere to sit even though there were 8 of us and obviously chairs would have to be moved to accommodate us all. We had to stand around in the library waiting for other people to go through for their meal, then we had to clear the tables of glasses and nibbles and ask other guests if we could use chairs near them. We then had quite a wait for drinks orders to be taken. No apology was made at any time, just 'We're a bit busy'. A really poor show for a first impression.
Beautiful surroundings, very helpful and friendly staff, amazing food. Had a lovely relaxed afternoon, would recommend to anyone. Thank you
Really lovely meal. Just one issue, 3 of our party ordered rib-eye steak cooked medium, one was rare & the others were at best medium-rare, still nice though, but consistency would be good. Candles on the tables would add some atmosphere.
we stayed at Matfen hall and we were expecting a quiet chilled spa weekend, there was a lot of loud music coming from a room near by which went on and off at different times of the day/night, apart from that we were very happy with everything else, it would certainly be a gamble going again as we wouldn’t want this to happen again
Everything about our visit was excellent - the staff are superb, very friendly and helpful. Milton was very kind to my husband when he collapsed so I thank him for that! The food in the restaurant is wonderful and I really do rate very highly, Paul Blakey and Nick Kleist. Thank you for yet another superb stay in your wonderful hotel!
My husband and I had a great evening at Matfen Hall. The staff was very polite and attentive. The service was very prompt. The food was delicious. I would seriously reccommend the passionfruit souffle - it was amazing!!
A very Enjoyable meal in lovely surroundings, again, can’t wait to come back.
Fantastic food, creatively presented. The best peppercorn sauce I've ever eaten
