At Heckfield Place we believe that the very best tasting food is locally and bio-dynamically grown. Using a pared back style of cooking we strive to allow diners to experience the excitement and immediacy of food served straight from the earth. Marle is open for reservations to both residents and outside guests.
The kitchen was having trouble the night we were there. There was only three other tables occupied, but we had a 30 minute wait between starter and main course, and then the main came out over cooked. It was another half hour before the main came out again. The manager was very good in handling us, but I've now been twice and the wait between courses was bad again. The serving staff also are not trained enough. I had to hunt for my coat, and again, only three other tables occupied in the restaurant.
Super food and drink. Excellent service. Would loved to have been able to use the bar for pre or post dinner cocktails. Interesting choice for employee uniforms??
My husband and I had a great lunch - the food & service were amazing. We loved the menu which relies on high quality seasonal ingredients done to perfection.
The venue is stunning and very well appointed. I am sure Marle will get a star in a few years. Only negative is the service isn’t really at the same level as the food. I will definitely come again though.
A superb evening. The menu was original, the food delicious and the service was very attentive. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and we will be returning very soon.
A wider range of soft drinks would be good, other than that a fantastic venue for any special occasion or for memorable meals. The food was delicious, not fussy, lovely seasonal ingredients.
We enjoyed our first visit and we're very pleased that Nicola gave us a lovely tour of the walled garden and cinema. We have booked an evening performance of the Nutcracker with supper. We would like to see a cheaper lunch menu as offered at Spring in Somerset House. Looking forward to our next visit.
We were quite shocked at the service. It really let down our whole experience. We walked in and no one was there to greet us. Waited ages for a drink despite being the only people there, no one took my coat. We were brought the wrong tables food twice etc - not what i expect when paying £33 a main course
The pre screening menu is very limited- it is avegatarian meal and in my opinion a little bit limited.
Great service and gorgeous food. Thankyou
Thoroughly enjoyed dinner Saturday night, everything was flawless! Marle matches the outstanding quality of the rest of the property, lookin g forward to returning soon!
Feels like they’re still getting the hang of things. Serving staff not very knowledgeable and tried to rush us too much. Mains came out 5 minutes before sides. Beautiful place and delicious food. Would have liked to have a relaxing drink before meal but seems this is not possible for non residents. Went on Wednesday evening - very quiet. Not sure how car park will work when it rains as have to walk through woods to Hotel.
Delicious food, but over priced for lunchtime. If you want to attract Locals you need to offer a different style of lunchtime menu. Car park is a very long walk from the house.
We had a wonderful evening dining at Marle. The staff were all fantastic and the sommelier was very knowledgeable. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We would highly recommend dining here.
The food was absolutely brilliant, it was the absolute star of the show. The service was friendly and attentive, everyone was so helpful and informative. The restaurant was amazingly designed and beautifully lit in the late afternoon sunshine. Marle and Heckfield Place are an absolute gem, which will soon be loved by locals and international tourists alike, so go whilst people still haven’t quite caught on!
We had an absolutely fabulous lunch. The flavours were so fresh and delicious and we didn’t mean to have a pudding, but could not resist (and were very glad we did!). Quentin, the sommelier, could not have been more relaxed and helpful and chose us the perfect wine. We will not hesitate to return and to recommend to all.
It was a great experience and the scores reflect that. We work in the food industry and so our expectations are high . These were exceeded. Our only comment would be the pre dinner drinks in the main reception area didn’t really work - so maybe you should consider a small bar for non residents . But the food, staff, service and the storytelling about the food was outstanding . We will be regular visits as we are local ! Well done
Gorgeous setting and restaurant. Food really lovely and almost there . The only negative comment is I thought that coffee was expensive.
Fantastic evening - music in the bar area would be a good addition - to add to the atmosphere as was too quiet
Lovely food and good selection of food and wine. Service was excellent by all staff, very friendly and relaxed yet professional. It was relatively quiet but it was only the second week of opening so this was to be expected. It was on the more expensive side but the quality of the food and wine was very good, I would have given 3.5 stars for value if I could.
When we arrived we were told by a very arrogant lady that the grounds were not available for us to walk in, for hotel guests only. Another team member said grounds were off limits for health and safety? Perhaps get your stories right? On being seated our umbrella fell in us twice, we were told to just sit in the sun.. On ordering the beef the meat was suggested to be medium rare, we asked for the meat medium rare, it came well done. When we complained we were told that chefs says this is medium rare - for a top chef in a restaurant with Skye gingell name not to know the difference between medium rare and well done is shocking - which makes me think the chef could just not be bothered to cook it properly. At £34 per dish this is outrageous. And nothing was done with the bill to reflect this issue. When mentioned whilst paying the lady taking the payment just said; but you did get your meat recooked right?? It’s a shame that our experience was not a great one because the hotel is beautiful and I can see that a lot of effort has gone in to the interior.
Considering that you have only been open a few weeks, overall it was a very good experience. What you are doing is very different. From the team uniforms to not pouring glasses or wine or Champagne at the table. We are not used to this, but it did not detract from a very pleasant lunch - the Turbot was exceptionally good. I am sure that the service will soon be up to the standard of the food, the waitress who previously worked at Chewton Glen was wonderful and a credit to you. I didn't have the heart to tell her that we are not fans of Chewton Glen...
Myself and husband drove from London expecting to spend all afternoon there. The hotel is very stylish and the food was good, we spent a little more than a £100. After lunch we asked if we could walk around & explore the ground & gardens? The entire staff told us No! Only hotel guests are allowed access, we felt very unwelcomed and we were very disappointed.. Even though the hotel has a profound history and outstanding aesthetics, its sterile hospitality makes it fail against its compitetors.
good value fast menu pre screening, we were the only ones. but early days.
Food is absolutely outstanding. A fabulous setting with wonderful staff. Throughly enjoyed the whole experience.
