About Mangetout Bar & Grill
Our catering revolves around the true food-lover; serving seriously tasty food made with the best locally sourced produce. In a relaxed, contemporary and luminous dining area it is our pleasure to provide personal service and plenty of smiles for all.
Reservations of 7 people and over (6 and over on Friday, Saturday & Sunday evenings) require a deposit to secure your booking (£5 per head if your sitting is before 5:00pm, £10 per head thereafter).
Deposits are fully refundable up to 48 hours prior to your booking. In the event one or more of your party does not attend the amount deducted from your bill will reduce by £5 / £10 per head accordingly.
**Booking for today?** We take online lunch bookings until 11am and online evening bookings until 4pm. If you are trying to book after these times, simply call us on 01702 468646 and our Reception team will do their best to try and squeeze you in!
Our party of seven were really impressed with the service we received on our latest visit. The new premises are a step up on the old Churchill’s site and the food was back to its best after a few previous visits to the old Mangetout which had been a bit disappointing. We were glad we persevered and will visit again. For diners who haven’t been before the portions are more than generous and be prepared to take some home with you because you’ll do well to finish your meal if you have a starter and a main. If you make it to the sweet you’d have done well!
Not the same atmosphere as your old venue. But the food was just as good. Service was excellent Could maybe have a better selection of draught beers. Thank you

I have always said mangetout is mine and my partners favourite restaurant. We always visited before the move, and this was our first time since the move and we were very impressed. Great atmosphere as always, best burgers ever (we always hunt for a burger restaurant and mangetout do the best burgers by far). I also wanted to let you know that you have a lovely bunch of staff working for you. Everyone was so friendly, wish I could have remembered some names - maybe next time! Definitely still my favourite restaurant by far.

Friendly staff, Lovely atmosphere & Great food
Took way too long to get our food. Everyone who had the chicken for starters was ill the next day. What on earth has happened? On trip adviser everyone is saying the same thing. Since the move, its gone very downhill.
We waited over an hour between our starters and mains (was 6pm and there was only 4 or 5 other tables of 2 at the time). When our mains came out they were cold. The waitress didn't check in on us until we had finished our meals (she was very good other than that). This was our first visit since you have moved premises and we were very disappointed!

The food was pretty good but the portions were huge, ridiculously huge, like man versus food! not one of us including the men could finish their meal! But I guess it’s better than having small portions! Was a shame to see so much food go to waste though, we literally could of shared every meal between 2.The service was a little slow & a lot of items were sold out. I think if maybe there were more staff & more food stock then this could be one of the best restaurants in Southend, it’s a lovely building & a good location.

Unfortunately, since moving to a bigger building this has been to your detriment. ( which I congratulate, as business is obviously going). We had a party of 10, and booked this 2 months in advance. However, there appeared to be no planning for your staff and kitchen, for the amount of people you had coming that have booked. One of my friends had to eat his starter after everyone else. We couldn’t separate our tabs and get our own drinks, only after asking we were able to use the bar next to us. We had to ask for the menu. We didn’t know who was our waiter or waitress, which we clarified. Our main meal came out over an hour after we ordered, we were told after an hour it would be a further 15-20 minutes. Again, not acceptable telling us that you were “busy”. We knew you were busy but you knew you were going to be busy by the amount of parties you had. The waiter we had in the end was very pleasant but he was new, so I felt bad bugging him to answer our questions, which he couldn’t. The manager Mark was very kind and reasonable, apologising for our concerns and really, for ruining our friends birthday. It’s with great disappointment and sadness this had been our experience as myself and my fiancé dined with you regularly from back in the day, from when you first opened. My fiancé and I recommended yourselves for our friends birthday so you can imagine the rest of the night they took the absolute mickey out of us, thankfully there not too fussy! However, like I say I am thankful to our waiter and managers apologises and customer service at the end. I’m sorry I am not writing anything better! Must say the nachos were banging at the start. And if I hadn’t have waited for my “big mama” I probably would have thought that was amazing as well! My friends commented whether it was a bar or a restaurant also.... so I think you have to pick one or the other, I don’t think it is working for you. This is all obviously in my opinion. Had been looking forward to visiting Mangetouts new venue after being a long term customer. As always the welcome was friendly. The new look menu I have to say did look appetising, but as always I went for the Big Mumma and Halloumi for starter. After ordering we received our starter very quickly which I was very impressive. Again as always the Halloumi fries were delicious, however unfortunately it went downhill from there :( after waiting 50 minutes for our food not to arrive I asked the waiter what was happening?. I gave the benefit of the doubt of not asking sooner as there were a few big groups in at the time. I was told it had only been brought down. Now even just looking at my burger I could tell it had been sitting on the side for a long period of time. The 'melted' cheese had gone hard and the burger as a whole was warmish at best. No explanation was giving for why it was so late. As a lover of Mangetout I was really disappointed with the service and it has given me the feeling of not wanting to return again.
Delicious vegan burger - this place is not just for the meat eaters. Great value for money, especially with their new NHS discount offer!
The lady serving us was fantastic but the service was slow. I’ve since see that you are hiring more staff, so this will hopefully help.
