Located on Taunton's Historic Castle Green in the heart of picturesque Taunton our flagship site offers all day casual dining -Great Breakfast, Great Tapas and Gourmet Burgers are just some of the delicious choices on our menu. Great for outside drinks but the front could do with some heating ,other than that lovely.

Wouldn’t recommend at all cancelled a birthday tea had booked giving really no time to book elsewhere and then had the cheek to say they would love to see me again sometime 😡
Hi Carol, Firstly, let me take this opportunity to give my sincere apologies that we had to make the difficult decision to close early on Monday affecting bookings. This decision was taken as a last resort and purely down to the adverse weather. It's our goal to provide the high of standards, comfort and safety for all our customers and on this occasion we would not have been able to provide anything close to these high standards. During the high levels of wind and downpours our covered area became damaged and after inspection was irreparable. The high wind levels also meant that our large umbrellas were also a health & safety risk as no matter what weights we applied they were still unstable . It would have been an unpleasant experience for yourself and your party to be sat in the wind and rain without cover and I can only apologise if you feel that the nature of this cancellation was unacceptable. I do sincerely hope that after my clarification you will consider a visit to us when we are able to operate free of Covid-19 restrictions when the weather will play less of a part in our delivery of great food and drinks to all our customers. Service was very slow again. Got there at 1pm didn’t have food and drink order taken till 1.30pm. Food and drinks were good. Not all staff seem to be that customer focused, others were pleasant.

I'm sorry that you experienced slow service, I have been working hard this week to retrain staff and to ensure more effective ways of working. Part of this includes a better welcome by staff to include an introduction to our online ordering platform as well as having staff in specific zones to support customers and ensure quicker delivery of food and drinks. Didn’t feel that the customer service was anything on previous visits. Letting in parties larger than 6, sounded like a big party round the back of the pub and left feeling uncomfortable. Drinks were good, clean tables and toilets.

We booked in advance and they had no record so we were put to the back of the pub by a crowd of drunken swearing adults. Therefore only stayed for 1 drink Week before messed our drinks up and I had to ask three times by then had eaten our food . Staff need some training . Nice food though wouldn't take family or friends as would be embarrassing. App is more limited than the physical menu

We approached Mackenzies with slight trepidation as we had read some of the not so complimentary reviews, and didn't want our first Saturday night out post lockdown to be crap. However - worry not. It was a very positive experience! Good prompt service / acceptably swift delivery of drinks and food, so well done to the service, and food delivered nice and hot. The man booking us in also recognised my pathetically optimistic shorts and short sleeve attire, and offered to reseat us next to the patio heater - result! Even the tossers in the car park revving up their wannabee "racing motorbikes" and cars couldn't dampen our spirits. Only one minor niggle in that my veggie partner pointed out the veggie options were limited and basic, but she enjoyed it none the less. Thanks to Mackenzies for a good Saturday night out. Will defo book again.

Terrible experience.Booked table for 2 well in advance On arrival told half hour wait for a drink/1 hour wait for food.(we actually waited 20 mins for drinks and hour and a half for food ) Insuffient staff and many of the drinks shown on menu were not available.Everyone was complaining.The staff that were on were heroes trying to cope.Apparentl y this happened last weekend so why weren't lessons learned. Reputeadley £500000 spent on this venue. Think the money was wasted Never again.!!!😥😥😥

The actual food was nice when it finally came out. I booked the table for 1pm and wasn’t service until 1:30 and then didn’t receive my drink until 2:20. Having worked in hospitality myself I am usually very understanding however no one informed us of the back up in orders until we had already paid and complained 45 minutes in. The atmosphere was awful because everyone was annoyed about the large delay, the staff kept seating walk in’s too which was frustrating given that those who had booked weren’t even catered for. We got our food around 3pm and to be honest our day had been ruined. Shocking service and no remorse. If we had been informed of the 1.5 hour wait when we arrived we would’ve gone elsewhere, we also would’ve left but they make you pay upfront.

The staff were lovely, but there were so many problems with our drinks orders- got the wrong cocktails, missing drinks, all came out at very different times. They did deal with the issues well, I believe they had a lot of very new staff and had only been open a week so hopefully with a bit more training and experience these issues will be ironed out.
Burger was burnt, as was the bun. Chips were over fried, and like I had the scraps that were left in the fryer. All the food was lukewarm at most.

The range of drinks was very limited due to the lack of draft lagers etc. This meant that the price of drinks was much higher than elsewhere.

Despite booking 4 days earlier and answering a please confirm your booking email Mckenzie’s still didn’t have our group down on the guest list. Also waited for approx 20 minutes for first drink ordered off the app. Service was better later on though. Was seated at the area at the back of the pub. Offered heating which was nice but tbh was like being sat next to someone’s garage. Didn’t really feel much atmosphere either. Looks lovely from the front but disappointing in the back.

The lady how served us was amazing so kind and helpful. (The lady who was working 17 with the side of her hair shaved off) I want to thank her for how lovely she was. She made our dining experience so much nicer

Unfortunately service wasn’t very good. We were there for 6 hours and each drinks order took between 30-45 mins after ordering. We tried to order through the app and via staff and both were just as bad. On a positive note we complained to the manager and he was extremely apologetic and offered us complimentary drinks. Would we return???? Yes as I’m hoping it’s just teething problems as it’s a new team. Staff were friendly and held it together well in the chaos! We will return to this pub to see if the efficiency of service has improved. Let’s hope so.
