Loft is a Contemporary British restaurant, bar and private dining room in St Albans.
Loft will showcase Nick Male’s Contemporary British menus using the best seasonal produce and a varied wine list including a single bottle list of rare finds.
Nice food and atmosphere, but service was just too slow. The waiters never came back to our table to see if we needed more drinks or if our food was ok, we had to call the waiter a few times looking for more water for the table, etc. It was a shame because the food was really good and you were paying big prices for your meal and experience.
Had a great dinner at Loft. Everything was perfect. Amazing food
Food was good although smallish portions and expensive. Service was very poor -lots of waiting staff but they didn't seem to know what to do and we had to ask for drinks and ask for menus etc rather than the staff being proactive .They need training or someone in charge.
My partner and I were really looking forward to going to Loft for the first time as we'd heard great things and also saw it was in the Good Food Guide which of course normally means good things. We went for the Sunday lunch set menu option. Unfortunately we were disappointed by our visit. The service was only ok - we waited 25 minutes before someone came to take our drinks and food order. The restaurant was not full so unsure why there was a delay. A substitute item was offered for the starter I chose as they did not have it - it would have been nice if I was told this when given the menu when I first sat down so more time was spent then choosing something else. Unfortunately the food was only ok - we thought it was overpriced for the quality of what we got. On the plus side, they do have a good wine menu. The tables around us were dirty and had not been cleaned. There was also a few other noisy families around us (not the restaurant's fault at all and couldn't be helped) which didn't help with the overall experience. I think we may try it again in the future - but for the evening A La Carte option. Probably not for a while though.
Very nice food from the al la carte menu. Not cheap but very good quality, good range of wines served by the glass.
Food was delicious but wish cocktails were in nicer glasses and my main dish came out different to some one on another table without been told their was a menu adjustment Service was inconsistent we had an amazing lady start serving us I don’t know her name but she had brown hair and was wearing a blouse with white spots on, she was very friendly and helpful. We actually thought she had finished but then saw her whilst paying our bill at the bar at the end. We had to ask for dessert menus never asked if actually wanted a dessert and the guy who asked how our main was Barely finished the sentence never mind waited for an answer. Don’t let any of this take away from the food, it was delicious and some staff were amazing. there could just do with some more consistency when your paying that much for dinner
The food was quite disappointing especially for the price. I don't think we will be returning.
menu too limited too pricey for the standard of food service was lacking restaurant looked beautiful wanted to like it got a table for 7.30 - didn't leave til 10 and no deserts
A really lovely restaurant. We had the Sunday roast and it was lovely. Good value with the two courses. The only negative aspect to the meal was that they have the children's area on a Sunday, however the parents were sitting at the furthest table away from the children's area meaning the children were running backwards and forwards between the two.
Atmosphere slightly lacking as it was a Wednesday night and not many tables were occupied. Felt the menu missed a few details eg the squid in the starter was fried but it didn’t state that and the steak came with potato but again not mentioned. Overall though, a lovely evening with attentive staff
We ate at Loft as a party of four on Saturday 19 October. We were greeted warmly by a young lady who has been a member of staff since just after the restaurant opened, who recognised us from previous visits. She was an excellent host throughout the evening - very friendly and very efficient. Unfortunately our evening was a little spoiled by the attitude and behaviour of the duty manager on the evening. When I politely pointed out to her that there was a small error on our reasonably large bill, she handled the whole situation very badly and rudely - even after I went up to the desk to try to resolve quietly after the original incident. The restaurant had made an inadvertent error, but continued to argue unnecessarily about the small point they had got wrong (taking it off the bill reluctantly and only after some discussions). Apart from that, the food and drink was very good, and we had enjoyed the evening until that point at the end - although it is definitely the case that the quality of service and staff is lower since our previous visits (apart notably from the original person noted above, who was exemplary). We had been thinking of holding a big birthday event at the venue, but we won't be doing that now :-(
Great food and service, but was quite noisy!
We eat out quite often and In our opinion there is nowhere in St Albans that offers the great service and high quality that we get at Loft.
We had a lovely meal, great food, good portion sizes and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Will be returning
We visited Loft last night for the first time, a party of 4. From start to finish we were looked after very well. All 4 of us were delighted with our meals, my friends all chose the French Onion Soup, while I had the Meze, all were beautifully presented, and more importantly, delicious. We were not disappointed with our mains either. 2 had lamb, while 2 had duck. We were still talking about how much we enjoyed the meal on our journey home. We didn't have dessert on this occasion, but shall definitely return, so maybe next time. We shall be back again for sure. My only comment is that it was very noisy in the restaurant, but I'm sure that has a lot to do with the high ceiling, and the couple of larger tables celebrating. It didn't impact us at all. We look forward to coming back again soon.
We were on our way to the restaurant for my Mum's birthday and received a voicemail to say that the Sunday roast we had booked for had sold out. We had to find a last minute booking at another restaurant and divert everyone to go elsewhere - extremely disappointing.
Was excited to get a reservations. Disappointed with what was a heavy handed starter and cold accompaniments with main.
Really excellent, imaginative & well presented food and first class service in a very nice setting. We will definitely be back.
Really loved the duetz taster meal! The food was really well paired with the bubbles! Really great are taken of us that night. We just wished there was a little bit more meat in the main dish. Have been to the loft many times and will certainly return again.
Ambiance is fantastic; service is very good, attentive but not intrusive; food, overall was quite good, one exception, the dessert I ordered was the ‘Individual Key Lime Pie’, the presentation was very good, but the filling itself lacked the very distinctive key lime flavor, in fact the filling tasted largely like slightly sweetened, whipped cream cheese, not bad, just didn’t meet expectation of the name of the pie, key lime. The wines were good, save the aperitif, I ordered a champagne that was offered by the glass, from a producer that I have both visited in Champagne, and served several times at large and small events, the glass I was served was mostly flat and slightly turned. The bar staff should keep better track of wines served by the glass, and when they have past, do not continue to pour them.
The service was outstanding, very kind, friendly and attentive staff. The food was tasty and of good quality, I would definetely go back
Delicious food and a lovely atmosphere for my husband's birthday, thank you!
Thank you all for your hard work! Everyone had a fab time at our end of year conference, special thanks to Nick and Loren Kind regards Rachel and Team FIECON
Interesting to almost have the place to ourselves - save for another couple of diners - as the rest of the room was set up for a conference the next day. But lovely space, amazing service, incredible food and wine! Highly recommended!
