About Live Bait (Muizenberg)
Live Bait is about colourful, casual, comfortable dining in a harbour venue that is unique in South Africa. On sunny days, the floor to ceiling windows are opened to allow the heady scent of the sea to whet your appetite. Popular with young couples, families and foreign dignitaries alike, the casual banquette seating and colourful harbour atmosphere make Live Bait the perfect place to enjoy a lazy lunch by the sea.
The food is a range of well-presented crowd pleasers with a stylish, vibrant twist, like Smoked Paprika Calamari, Hake and Chips with Basil Mayonnaise and, of course, the freshest possible line fish, straight from the fishing boats moored just meters away.
Hi, I would just like to compliment our waitress, I wish I remembered her name, she was amazing.
My partner felt that his grilled fish portion was rather small for the R95 paid. It was just hake and chips. Apart from that we were all very happy with our meals. The view was awesome and the service was very good. I think that R50 corkage is a bit over the top.
Food was great, service was very friendly and food was great - thank you i will be back!
The sushi starter was nice, if not exceptional (lots of rice). It was very good value with the glass of wine special. The grilled calamari was delicious and well-priced - i would go back for that. The description in the menu is not clear enough, i.e. does not indicate that it has some (Cajun?) curry. The prawns were overwhelmed by a very heavy sauce and quite expensive for what you got. It was very odd to be served a salad with no salad dressing and the only dressing option being olive oil. The waitress said they "used to have balsamic vinegar, but not any more. I don't know why". If you are going to serve salad as a side dish, you must serve some kind of dressing. The Entertainer app excluding corkage makes the app not really worthwhile as the savings work out about the same as bringing your own wine. Beautiful venue but the chairs are quite uncomfortable.
There were quite a number of items on the menu that was not available, which does not give a great first impression. However, everything else was great and we will definitely recommend Live Bait.
Horrible experience. Waitress got my order wrong and when I told her she did she argued with me that she didn't make a mistake. I ended up having a meal that I didn't want.
The mussels smelt strange but it was taken back and we could order another dish. Much appreciated .
The food was amazing service was great staff friendly and helpful
Love Live Bait but this last Monday the food was a disappointment. Many items where not available. I specifically convinced my friends to go here as I love the whole silver fish. We where told that it was decided not to serve the Silverfish as it was not up to the chefs standards (Strange that there was no fresh Silver fish on hand as I know for a fact that over the weekend there was a fresh Silverfish available on the dock in Kalk Bay). So I ordered the see food curry instead. The fish in the curry was... Silverfish. If its not good enough to serve in one format then it shouldn't be good enough to serve on any format. This aside being told the fish in the curry would be the line fish of the day, which was Kob. I would like to reiterate that the service and atmosphere was great as always but I'd be hesitant to go back due to the poor menu availability and the obvious issue with being served what was deemed to be a substandard product. Seems to have been a bit of breakdown of communication between the kitchen and service staff. This is not a complaint just my opinion. Thanks for having us.
Liked the space, view and service. Much better than Kalk Bay venue where we sometimes feel they are doing one a favor letting one in at all. Food was good and prettily presented and all in all we had a lovely evening.
Lovely venue and delicious fish
Worst service in Cape Town as we waited over40 mins for drinks and another 20 for food . The waiter was doing his best but easier to do self service at the bar which I did I think everyone dining had the same experience so a great pity as we will never go back !
All in all a pleaseant experince, but irritatingly there were a few items on the menu that weren't available, and we couldn't order any of the baked breads, as the pizza oven was not functioning.
Always love coming to Live Bait. Stunning food, venue and always brilliant service.
the food was delicious and very well presented at the table. one really good thing was THE PLATES WERE WARM ! our waitron was magnificent, very pleasant and helpful in describing the menu to us. it was also a nice touch for the manager to come and ask us several times, if we were enjoying our evening.
Biggest disappointment was the lack of flat breads on the menu. One of the reasons we frequent the restaurant is for the mezze flat breads. Please bring them back! Not inclined to rush back if these are no longer part of the fair. Fried calamari was good. The service was average if not slow. Bigger, better and more affordable MCC options on the wine list would be good. General comments from the party of 12 was that is was okay. No fantastic but not terrible.
The food is absolutely astounding, and really not badly priced, considering the quality. The view from the table was beautiful, even though it was a gloomy day. The service was very good overall.
Delicious meal and very attentive service
Professional but relaxed, attentive service, great view, tasty food.
I love this spot! Great food, great vibe and affordable.
This was a very special experience at Live Bait and will no doubt become a favourite of ours (and many others!), see you soon, Janine and Victor
LOvely food and service and of course the view is superb
Food was an hour and a half late, drinks orders forgotten about, then served in 15 later. My dish was meant to come with vegetables, had to ask for them. All round a shocker. Will not be coming back, pity as we are a large business in Capricorn Park and would come often as it's very convenient.
If you could make the room warmer in winter I'd add another star to atmosphere. Staff were warm and friendly. Sushi and prawns were excellent.
Great food and service without the five star price tag
