About Little Ships Ramsgate
With stunning views over the Royal Harbour, Little Ships Restaurant and Café takes its name from the armada of 'Little Ships' who set sail from Ramsgate during the Dunkirk evacuations in 1940. Open 7 days a week, we serve an all day dining and café menu which specialises in fish and local produce from Kent farms. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options available. Enjoy coffee and drinks overlooking the marina.
We had a lovely table in the window with stunning views of the harbour. All the food was so fresh. The sea bass special was amazing. Great to see local wines and beer on the menu.
Amazing food and lovely restaurant. Service was a little slow but I have put this down to the covid restrictions.
Food was good, would have been nice to be able to sit inside given the time of year and lack of customers.
I booked a table for 12 of us for the Saturday over the bank holiday weekend. I booked this around 5 weeks prior to the booking. Due to covid, the team explained that we would most likely have to sit on two separate tables which was fine. When I arrived our tables were at opposite ends of the restaurant which was disappointing. I asked why this was when there was space to have the tables adjacent to one another but they said this was just how the tables were reserved and so they would move us if the people sitting down left. I asked why they couldn't have just done this in the first place, which they couldn't answer. However what was frustrating was the fact they didnt apologise, the waiter was quite arrogant and not friendly. It was quite frustrating. The other table did move after about 20 minutes, so this situation could have been avoided immediately. The other table ordered starters and drinks and were served quickly. They in fact left after just over an hour. In the same amount of time, my table had been served drinks, some bread and calamari. The bread and calamari took 45 minutes to arrive. By 9.30pm, our mains still hadn't arrived. We arrived at approximately 8.10pm, so this was very late. I asked the waitress how long it would take and she said another 10 minutes. Again, there was no apology or explanation other than 'it will taste delicious'. By 9.45pm, the food finally arrived, a good 90 minutes after we arrived. Some of us had ordered a fish special. The sauce was lukewarm which we felt was unacceptable considering the time we waited. We called the waitress over again and explained, we asked her what we could do as firstly we were now not hungry, and secondly the food was cold. At this point, a man dressed in a jacket (it looked like he was leaving) came over to the table. He said 'what is the problem' without explaining himself. I asked who he was and he said he was the owner. I explained what had happened and he whipped my plate away in such an aggressive way. I gasped. He then said 'well you want it heated up dont you?!' I replied and said well I am not sure as we have waited nearly two hours to eat now. His response was 'well if we can't make you happy, just leave!'. We have never been asked to leave a restaurant. We were shocked, upset but furious to be spoken to in such a derogatory fashion. The owner spent another 45 minutes talking to my friend who was going to pay for our meal as it was a birthday treat. He refused to take payment for the wine and starters we had eaten. He demanded that we pay for our main courses but had asked us to leave. In the end, we fortunately had cash on us so we paid over the odds for the wine and starters. When I made the booking several weeks ago, they took my credit card details so he said 'You will pay for the food as I have your details'. Little Ships was recommended to us by our Air BnB, but I would not recommend this to anyone, ever. The arrogant, unapologetic waiters and waitresses are one big issue, the owner is another separate issue. I have suggested the Air BnB remove this from their list of things to do. Having read reviews over the weekend, it seems many others have had a similar experience. What food we had tasted nice, we have no complaints about that. We wish the nice (young) waiters all of the best.
Me and my partner really enjoyed the fish special of the day. The waiting staff were really friendly and helpful
Lots of attentive staff. Everyone knows what they're doing. Food always a reliable standard.
Staff friendly. Clean and spaced out restaurant. Lovely food but need to bring back warm scotch egg onto menu
As it is a great restaurant to take the family to, I think that a set children’s menu would be beneficial.
Service was a little slow. We had to ask to order and had to ask where our food was as we had waited quite a while. Maybe short staffed but no explanation given. When food did arrive it was lovely and the waitress was very pleasant. Took a while to clear our plates too It will not stop me returning though and I would still recommend
Lovely food and great view. Bit more expensive than other local cafes but worth it.
Very good meal and great staff. Only thing I didn’t like was being charged for ketchup and mayonnaise.
An absolutely lovely dinner. Felt very safe. Charming staff and delicious, well thought out food. Highly recommend
I understand the need for a more limited brunch menu at the moment but could you please bring back the little full English breakfast please? I’d rather clear my plate than struggle through a huge plate (lovely as it was) and leave food that will only go to waste. BTW, I’d love to know who supplies your sausages - they are always delicious. I’m coming back with friends on Sunday - see you then!
A great effort considering the current circumstances, would definitely visit again. I recommend the sea bass/chick pea combination if on the menu
Lovely dinner, generous portions and great service. One of our favourite places in Ramsgate. Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you Little Ships.
Food was fabulous as always. Totally delicious and super fresh! Service was a little patchy and abrupt but I think the waiter may have been having an off day. I know it’s hard with social distancing and all too! Will never stop us coming back though! See you soon!
I was disappointed that despite all COVID 19 statements on the website that very few were evident in practice. No social distancing, no hand washing / sanitizer on arrival, no clear information available. This was our first meal out since lockdown was lifted and did not feel fully comfortable with arrangements. We were sat by the window for ventilation but the outside table was close and we were subjected to smokers although this was dealt with when pointed out. Food was good - with exception of the whole crab, very disappointing both in flavour and presentation.
Delicious food - seafood platter was a dreamy, treat ! Wine superb, lovely staff and lovely view!
Excellent food and service at Little Ships. Most definitely the best place to go in Thanet.
Attentive staff, outstanding delicious food, presented with tender loving care, you’ll not be disappointed. Well organised from the moment you enter. Will definitely be returning soon.
Excellent. Very happy the way your social distancing has been setup. A great meal and felt very comfortable
Absolutely delicious fresh moules marinieres and cockles! Good wine too.
Our first outing since lockdown and we were made to feel welcome and safe. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal
The Food was delicious, but the service was very slow, And £15 for a breakfast is to much and that’s not including tea or coffee....Breakfast is london is cheaper.
Always love coming here the food and service always friendly and good fab location ❤️
