Opened in 2002, L’Enclume’s idyllic riverside location in the historic village of Cartmel is the perfect setting for Simon Rogan’s distinctive culinary style.
The restaurant is a relaxed dining space with white-washed walls and minimally laid tables from which L’Enclume’s dishes can be best enjoyed.
From start to finish absolutely outstanding, food, service, attention to detail, perfection 👌will definitely be returning
Food as on previous visits was excellent. What makes it extra special is the friendly, welcoming staff. Each and every one wants to make it the best experience possible for the customer. Looking forward to the next visit. I love lenclume.
Thoroughly enjoyed spending Christmas at L'Enclume. As always an unbeatable combination of sublime food and exemplary service.
A great two day break during strange times. It worked for us because of the tremendous commitment by the establishment and all of the excellent staff. The tasting menu was as marvellous as when we came ten years ago. The Hamper was delightful but remained untouched until we came home where it was consumed with joy. ( great ham, cheese and pickles.) Thank you all
Impeccable service and a fantastic experience from start to finish Thank you for making it such special day
we visited L’Enclume for my birthday yesterday and was made to feel special from the minute we entered the restaurant! This was our first visit and it will not be our last! We enjoyed every course! We enjoyed the atmosphere and also loved keeping the menu a surprise until half way through when our excitement at what was coming next we couldn’t wait and read it - every one of the 7 courses was a taste sensation! Thank you Simon and your wonderful team!
Thank you to all the team for a wonderful evening. Food, wine choice and service were all exceptional. Particular thanks to Max for his professionalism, knowledge and the warmth of his welcome. We look forward to returning.
We three ladies had the best time. We are already planning our next trip. What can I say? Outstanding, wonderful and beyond perfect. We had the best seat in the house with full view of the kitchen... And omg what a taste sensation. I will give a special mention to the Spanish waitress who looked after us. The icing on the cake was meeting Simon rogan. Thank you lenclume everything was perfectly splendid.
Myself and partner had a delightful evening and thoroughly enjoyed the dinner menu and wine flight. The staff were both professional and friendly, the service like watching a dance and the atmosphere was cosy and relaxed. The only tiny negative I can add is that there was a slight miscommunication between myself and a staff member. I wanted to take half of the final dessert home but the staff member thought I'd said I want to leave it. Therefore I missed out on the tart and honey pastille (I was so excited for the pastille). No one is to blame for this but it was a little disappointing. All in all, thankyou for a lovely evening.
My husband and I dined at L’Enclume last night. It was our Christmas present to each other. We had a perfect evening. The staff made sure every aspect of our evening was faultless, so we could really appreciate the incredible food. The waiter from Liverpool and the ‘wine guy’ were the members of staff who were most involved in looking after us and they really did make sure our evening was everything we had hoped it would be. Equally all the other members of staff were so passionate about the food they served snd so attentive when checking how we had found each course. The food of course was show stoppingly good. I can only imagine how attentive to detail and focussed the kitchen staff must have been to create such exquisite course after course. We are already planning on coming back next Christmas. Please do pass on our thanks to the amazing team at L’Enclume. Natalie
My partner and I had an amazing experience on our first visit to your restaurant. Knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff are a credit to simon rogan and made our visit that bit more special. You hear on TV food can take you on a journey and bring back memories from your past, this was true for both of us. Each course a member of staff will tell you where the produce is from, how it's cooked and prepared and most importantly for us how to eat each course ie fingers or cutlery, that may sound bizarre but trust me it's not. I could go on and on about the food. Overall we had the most amazing night and are asking friends to come up with a date we can agree on and then booking the full package this time, hotel wine and food Thanks for the memory Jason and Ann
We had a wonderful lunch. It pushed us out of our comfort zone- with the cheese ice cream. All staff were really welcoming & followed all socially distancing rules. Well done to all
We expected it to be good and it lived up to our hopes. Great staff and amazing food = a very memorable evening. We will certainly return.
Superb afternoon lunch, excellent staff and food of exceptional quality.
We really enjoyed much of the meal however we did want to feed back a couple of things. A number of the courses were so salty they were almost inedible; the fish dumpling, the John Dory fish and mushroom and onion broth and the cheese porridge. It was a real shame as they tasted so nice but were really too salty, another table did complain about it so perhaps it was a specific chef tasting them I’m not sure but when we spent so much I thought it was important to pass this feedback on.
L'Enclume is not going to restaurant. It is an experience. It is an art gallery that chefs making the temporary art. Why temporary? Because you eat them and by eating them not only you enjoy the visual art by seeing the art but you touch, feel, smell them and taste them.
Effortless and faultless on all levels
Incredible experience! Our third time visiting L’Enclume. Food was exceptional, service was outstanding and wine choices were perfect. Can’t recommend enough. Times are tough and I’m proud to have been able to visit and support such a great place. Many thanks
Most amazing meal I have ever had, what a truly wonderful experience me and the wife had for our 10th wedding anniversary. ALL your staff were exceptional, they could not do anymore for us if the tried. Local to Cartmel, but that was the most amazing time I have had in the village. Definitely come again.
Perfect lunch experience, every dish was unique and delicious. Sometimes dining in Michelin restaurants can feel very formal and a bit soulless but your fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly staff made the whole lunch wonderful
Absolutely loved our meal with signature wine tasting! We will definitely be back again. Pamela and Mike
The only minor moan was our bed- quite small and not very long so my feet kept banging onto the wooden end. Breakfast was amazing and the different venue and service lovely. A great way to end our stay.
Fabulous experience, perfect polite welcoming staff, food superb, will definitely be back
A stellar cast but didn't quite come together. A truly magnificent performance by all but we left feeling confused. Why did we have circa 10 different staff tending our table? Struggled to actually get a menu and there was an assumption that we knew what we wanted. There are 2 menus 1x11 courses and 1x8 courses none of which are substantial. Regardless it would be good to have a look before deciding which way to go. Only when we established this fundamental point about dining at L'Enclume were we able to see what was on offer. Was the menu the same as on the website? If I am truly honest the best part of the meal was the bread and butter - which comes half way through - and the cheese which we added and the final desert. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the experience. Didn't get the final course as think the waiter assumed my partner was coming back rather than going to get the car - it was raining. Eventually got the bill after a long pause when I could have had the final course of mint and honey drops. Would be better if they gave you the menu upon arrival not 15 minutes after arrival and if there were fewer staff per table as too much is lost in translation. Drinks are very expensive - but very good quality. Don't be put off by the cheaper Hungarian wine. They will ply you with water - which I think is free.
This was a special occasion to replace a holiday that didn’t happen. Unfortunately the experience was a total disappointment. Simon Rogan has to seriously up his game as this just isn’t good enough. The food was average at best, lots of starters and sweets but not a lot else inbetween, I wonder exactly how much was actually pre-prepared and just dished up. The wine flight was terrible and at £90pp not cheap. However the service was abysmal, almost like they couldn’t get you out fast enough, I was actually asked if I had finished when still eating one course. Overall not a 2 Star Michelin experience and it would be hard to recommend to anyone. 5/10
