About l'Ecrivain Restaurant
L’Ecrivain Restaurant, in the heart of Georgian Dublin opened its doors in 1989. This modern contemporary restaurant is run by Chef Derry Clarke and his wife Sallyanne. The award winning Restaurant has a reputation for innovative cooking Irish/French Style, using only the best of Irish produce from small indigenous producers, all in season.
As well as our beautifully appointed Dining Room and Mezzanine Area, l’Ecrivain has two private rooms. The Malt Room on the ground floor seats 12 people. The Salon Privee on the first floor seats 18 people comfortably and 20 people maximum. We have a roof terrace that is a must when the sun is shining – or a smoker’s paradise!
We are delighted to announce our new addition: The Samsung Kitchen at l’Ecrivain. This is a separate demonstration kitchen where you can look and learn while you eat!
We are sorry but this restaurant is not currently accepting online reservations through ResDiary.
My wife an I had a wonderful evening, we had the Dinner Tasting Menu, every course was lovely and really balanced, I went with added matched wine, really only way to go, it was exceptional value as we had 2 for 1 voucher, all full price it is still great value. The very relaxed atmosphere adds greatly to the experience, Staff attentive but not in face. Highly recommended, already planning a return.
Very, very pricey, but the experience is worth it. My husband and I have been going to this restaurant ever since our first visit to Ireland in 1992. Always great food and the service has always been superb, just wish there were one or two more choices. That said it is always nice to see an "old friend".
It's was an absolute pleasure to have dinner at L'Ecrivain . It's was a very special occasion for myself and my sisters and the staff were superb, the food ,, Devine and I look forward to visiting again soon xxx
Customer service were perfect all waitresses did there job well. They hel to chose food drinks, great.Place was nice and warm. Food was good of course . Yes I would come again . Was good quality food just what I was looking for.
Definitely going back
We found the food to be of a high standard and generally quite good. Service on arrival and to table was not what we would have expected nor as friendly as we would have liked at this level. From that point on the service was excellent, our primary server\ sommelier (I cannot remember his name, he is French and from near Vouvray) was really friendly, informative and helpful particularly as my wife is not a lover of fish. I would note that the table layout in the middle of the room is not very comfortable and the endless refilling of water a bit too much.
A Great tasting menu with very varied excellently displayed high quality food. Great great great.
We had a wonderful evening at l'Ecrivain! The food, atmosphere and attention to detail was superb! The service was excellent...we could have been the only ones there! They even remembered we were there for a birthday! Derry wasn't there which was a pity as I have met him previously through charity work and it would have been nice to see him again! Of course he can't be there every night!! Would highly recommend it!
Excellent tasting menu... Esp the turbot and the venison. V friendly service.. Beautiful building and atmosphere . Thanks
On arrival at 9pm we were told that our table was not ready and were asked to take a seat in the bar. Another couple arrived 5-10 minutes after us and we're also asked to do the same. At 9.20 the couple who had arrived after us were taken upstairs to a table while we were still left at the bar. Upon his return to the bar we asked the man who was in charge of seating people when our table would be ready and he said that he would bring us up now. His attitude was quite dismissive and even though he knew we were unhappy he never acknowledged it in any way. Apart from that everything was lovely. The food and atmosphere were great as always and all other members of staff were excellent.
The food was incredible and presentation was perfect. The staff were friendly and professional. I look forward to coming back again soon!
The experience at L'Ecrivain was top notch, from the creative and beautifully presented food to the decor and service. We ordered the tasting menu with wine and enjoyed explanations of each dish and wine selection by the staff. Needless to say, we also loved the artful food. Each dish stood alone perfectly and also transitioned well into the subsequent dish. It was one of the best dining experiences I've had and I highly recommend it.
Superb Food , Excellent Friendly Staff ,We Had A Wonderful Meal.
Food is delicious and interesting. The restaurant is comfortable and relaxing and you're made feel welcome. I would recommend L'Ecrivain in a heartbeat. One of the best in Dublin.
Fabulous lunch in very relaxed atmosphere - nice to see the proprietor come out and speak with patrons.
Portions were very small but not a variety to choose from. Service was excellent.
We had a lovely evening - marvellous food and exceptionally pleasant and efficient staff.
Great experience overall. The deserts were good but were not as great as the rest of the meal.
We were there for our 25th wedding anniversary with our three children and we all had a fantastic night, food was fab, staff were really friendly and very efficient. Overall a great night and we will highly recommend you to our friends and family. The 25th anniversary cake was a lovely touch, thank you
Lovely staff and I don't think I need to tell anyone how incredible the food is, if you've heard of l'Ecrivain you already know.
L'Ecrivain is adventure for the all the senses, but, particularly, the tastebuds! Everything tastes as good as it looks, and it looks fantastic! The service is attentive and friendly without being intrusive. To dine in L'Ecrivain is a lovely experience and a real treat.
Very enjoyable dining experience in an attractive space. Lovely hosts.
We had a wonderful evening with excellent food and service. We are married 25 years in December so it was a nice early present to ourselves!
