The Brasserie Restaurant is decorated in a smooth and understated palette of aubergine and grey and is complemented by the newly refurbished Bar 76 a new contemporary, bright space in which to relax and enjoy a leisurely cocktail or coffees before or indeed after dining.
Passionate about cookery and sourcing the very best ingredients, our head chef and his team produce seasonal a la carte menus inspired by British and modern European flavours and almost entirely local produce. In addition to our fixed price menus we also offer a selection of specials and our stunning Sunday roast – booking highly recommended.
Hathaways Bar offers a truly rustic feel with exposed beams, open fireplace and an eclectic mix of furniture. Offering real cask ales from local brewer Churchend Brewery.

Service was very slow, we had to keep chasing food and drinks. Young server behind the bar was polite and helpful, if a little slow, needs more training in how to use coffee machine.
We had a very disappointing Sunday lunch here which was to celebrate my 70th birthday with my family.The room was cold when I complained the manager said he had just switched the heating on at 1.30 on a cold day and even though we had confirmed our booking the day before.It didn’t help that we were seated right next to a door which was constantly opening as it was the only access to the bar for staff and guests.The service was very slow even though the restaurant wasn’t very busy.The food was a very poor standard.Three of us chose the beef because the menu stated that it could be cooked to ones liking and carried a supplement of £2.95 per person.But clearly the chef couldn’t cook it to the individuals liking as we all requested well done but my sisters came quite rare and bloody and another guests was cremated. I thought the meal lacked flavour and I would have expected the vegetables to be served in separate dishes in a 4star hotel! I don’t think any of us will be coming back soon

I felt the presentation and food let TV e afternoon tea down here. The metal of the stand was rusty and not appealing. Sandwiches felt a bit dry on the outside and aside from the med veg one, they were very basic. One was just plain cheese for instance. The cakes were all very uneven in size and cut into really thin slices. We were also put in a room on our own and there was no music, the atmosphere was definitely lacking. Overall I wouldn’t come back here again.
Arrived to find we had no reservation despite confirming it earlier. Staff were very pleasant and accommodating as there were spare tables. Food good and arrived quickly despite the bar being busier than usual. The background singer, Sophie, was very good
The food was ok for the money. Ok choice and cooked nicely. The cheeseboard for dessert was disappointing though, not presented nicely, small amount of chutney and no butter or grapes. Very basic. The staff were really friendly and nice they just appeared to be a bit overwhelmed by how busy the pub was, although most people seemed to be staying at the hotel so not sure why they would be surprised. The biggest issue by far was it was very cold in there! Moved into the other bar as soon as we could which was still not warm but a bit better.
Cannot fault the cleanliness of the room, however having booked this hotel and being under the impression that this was a 4* hotel, I am perplexed by this rating. Having eaten in Hathaway’s bar, the atmosphere was worse than a wake, the service was pretty non-existent, taking almost 20 minutes to have an order taken when we were told ‘they would be right over’. Secondly the food was diabolical, bland and tasteless I’ve had better microwaveable meals which were far less depressing, cost of the meals were nothing short of a rip off! The quality of the food was appalling, cheap and just makes the hotel look like they are cutting costs. Then breakfast, pretty much the same regurgitated cheap products and nothing that made the hotel stand out from a Premier Inn. Overall not value for money and will not be returning or recommending.

The service at the table was unacceptable and for that reason I would not recommend the hotel to other people in fact just the opposite.
There was no note of our booking when we arrived so the table was not ready, the food was barely warm.
Overall our stay was pleasant but there were a couple of things that let the stay down, the breakfast was very disorganised and slow paced when we arrived at 9:30am we had to wait 15 minutes for a table to be cleared then the breakfast was to the back of a room in a tiny space with hardly any space to que up, the breakfast items were not being replaced quick enough so guests were moaning and the items were placed under air conditioning so some items were cold. The bread was not replaced so had to wait 5 minutes for staff to refill that. By the time we took breakfast to our table our tea was cold. The reception staff were great and helpful and so was spa staff. The Hathaway pub staff need training they did not know the menu and did not show us to a table or where we could sit one staff member looked at us as though she did not work there when asked a question. The rooms were clean and the cleaning staff were polite, however at 11pm we realised our sky remote did not work so called front desk the man came and tried but said he was only one on and did bring a replacement but this did not work either he did not offer anything like a part refund or something complimentary seeing we had paid full price for our stay and had no sky to watch. The temperature in the relaxation room was freezing it was cold outside and the air con was in throughout the hotel, you would think relaxation room should be warm as people were shivering in their gowns! The massage treatment was excellent and so was the beautician she was friendly and professional but did forget to get me a water after my massage which is key after treatments! But the main let down was the swimming pool it was freezing to another a level I could not bare how cold it was! There was no staff in pool area to report to either but on the plus side the sauna, steam room and hot tub was amazing! We did complain to reception about the temperature of the pool but they said it was cause maintenance had taken place so pool takes longer to reach correct temp, this to me is unacceptable as we paid full price for one night. The free parking was great. We only came for one night but had so many complaints which means we would not return.

Hi We did not feel that after booking with a special offer there should not have been a surcharge put on for the main meal or the dessert menu. For the special offer to be effective it was not good practice to add surcharges when there was only one other meat available. Especially as a lot of people do not eat pork.
The ‘Carnivore’ mezze platter that was paid 16.95 for may as well have been a picnic from sainsbury’s bought for £3. No way it should be anywhere near that price. Barely touched it due to the quality also. Other than that, a pleasant stay.
Excellent food and service as always
Excellent food as always, service slower than usual but didn't spoil the experience.
Booked afternoon tea for family. When we arrived I was informed that they didn’t have my reservation. I was a little shocked as the day before I had been sent an email to confirm my booking which I returned. I showed the girl my confirmation to which she said it wasn’t a problem as they were not busy and could do the afternoon tea!! The pictures on the website did not reflect what we were given. The tea and coffee were warm at best. I did feel a little let down and expected better from this hotel.
Gorgeous Sunday lunch
Service took a while to arrive, even though we had pre-booked. However the afternoon tea was very nice, ambience could have been better. All in all not too bad, if a tad expensive for what it was!!
Beautiful food which was served very professionally. Good value and very comfortable surroundings.
