About Lansdowne Strand
Newly refurbished the Lansdowne Strand now offers fantastic modern British food. Enjoy relaxed dining in our beautiful 16th century coaching inn both lunchtime and evening. Lunchtime we offer our set lunch menu (2 courses for £15 or 3 for £19.95) alongside our lounge menu featuring classic dishes made special, sandwiches, boards, scones and more. Monday to Saturday evenings we offer this lounge menu and our more refined a la carte menu, filled with inventive dishes using the best of locally sourced produce and the expertise and passion of our head chef and his team. Almost everything is made by our kitchen team, right down to our delicious mayonnaise. Sourced local, cooked with passion, served with pride!
Came for lunch on Saturday with my husband and 83 year old mother-in-law. Restaurant very pleasant environment, albeit quiet and little atmosphere. Service was very good, the one waitress working on her own did very well, but hate to think if every table was full! We ate salmon sandwich which was delightful but the menu is misleading as it is not smoked salmon but a smoked poach salmon. My husband had the pork which he thoroughly enjoyed but was pricey at £18.00. I had the ploughmans as you don't see them often, so good news. A nice piece of cheese, lovely ham, no need for the piccalilli or bowl of salad leaves though. Bread was so disappointing, lovely when it arrived warm, but when cold hard as nails and totally inedible. We were visiting from Yorkshire and come to the area regularly, may give it another go.
waldorf style salmon salad with citrus dressing very tasty , glad went for large as was not very big , staff very friendly and attentive , wine was nice and good value , they do serve coffe and tarts /cakes in lounge or instead of deserts which are expensive but very nice each one had 4 parts with interesting combinations( had before and were very good) , but only gluten free option was ice cream unless left some parts out . Go for the flavours , quality and atmosphere
Davin, looked after us & American friends very well, the dishes were well prepared & delicious! So pleased we were able to share our evening with our ,well behaved, dog Monty.
We arranged a wake for my Mothers funeral. The sandwiches were dry(in fact everyone moaned about them afterwards and during)The presentation was dreadful - just stuck on 3 platters ,no slight decoration to make them appealing and nothing to actually indicate what was inside them. My daughter had to find someone to fill up the hot water and coffee. We had no one come in to the room at all!We asked if there was any chance of a cake even saying we would go and buy one if they could cut it up .She was told there was no chef on duty on a Monday ,so who made the sandwiches? or perhaps that is why they were so dry made the night before perhaps? The lovely young lady behind the bar in the afternoon and evening was helpful but I think we as a group annoyed some other customers as I was ordering a large drinks order including hot as the drinks especially the coffee was weak and luke warm. We cam down the next day to speak to the Manager to be told we would have to come down agin later as they were in the building but not on duty - it was the day after my Mums funeral ,emotionally and physically tired.Phone number given but no one phoned my daughter had to phone. She is now dealing with this.
Excellent food and service in the restaurant. Even though it was busy the waiters and waitresses were attentive without being overbearing. We were a party of four and all of us enjoyed the excellent food.
The staff at the Landsdowne were very helpful and accomodating. They helped put up photos and set up a projector. They were flexible on predicted visits of years and coffees which we appreciated. All staff were friendly and helpful. Communication was good and requested for more plates and cups during their entire were acted upon quickly and professionally. Tables are cleared as the event took place.
It was great visiting the Lansdowne Strand, I grew up in Calne and remember it being very different the last time I visited 17yrs ago. The Refurbishment has been done tastefully with a mix of modern decor and traditional fixtures and furniture, the staff were all very polite and service was fantastic. The food was good and everyone at the table was complementary about what they were eating. The atmosphere was a little lacking but this may have been partly down to the World Cup football. We will definitely be back.
Friendly, helpful staff. Good quality food.
Our walking group were treated to efficient service with a smile. We will certainly be coming back.
Room was all ready for us and we had another great evening! Thank you
The service and food was excellent and we all enjoyed our meal.
Excellent food and attentive service. A credit to your staff. Thankyou
Superb food - we really enjoyed it.
Having notified the Lansdowne Arms that one of the party was a vegetarian that did not like a number of vegetables, we were informed that there would be plenty of choice for her on the menu. The only thing she could eat (with difficulty), was fish and chips. Very disappointed with this, had we not already been settled, we would have left and found elsewhere to eat. Feel very let down on this occasion.
Delightful meal: well presented and flavour combination.
The service and food was very good but ,a bit pricey.
On line booking would only allow us to book at an early time. The restaurant was not busy. Telephone number advertised on the website was not available. We changed the booking time on arrival for a later time . Food was very good but bar service was slow. Insufficient staff were working both on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Lovely Sunday lunch - Really enjoyed dining with you.
Lovely food, great service & super venue.
Hi everyone, We have always been made to feel very welcome when we hold our Ukelele group at your hotel. Your staff are always welcoming and the room is always ready for us. The group is still growing and the room suits us just fine - thanks so much! With kind regards, Dawn Heath
Top class meal and service. Highly recommend.
We were shown to our table but not given any menus for about 10 minutes and not offered a drink. Some waiters were unsure of drinks available and whether you had tonic with gin, so further training may be required. Once our order had been taken and drinks served we had a lovely evening and the food was delicious.
One of the best meals we’ve had at the Lansdowne. 2 comments I would make. Firstly for us it’s all about keeping the children happy. They love the fish and chips but you don’t really do child deserts. Our daughter always ends up with ice cream but they are always strong adult focused flavours. All she really wants is some plain flavour ice cream and maybe some brownie or something. Similar. Also you’ve not changed the children’s colouring on the back of the child menu since you opened. If our children get bored of coming to you (desert and stimulation) then we will end up stopping coming.
Wonderful Mothers Day lunch finished off by a nice touch of flowers and sweets bag. It made the meal even more special.
