About Lansdowne Strand
Newly refurbished the Lansdowne Strand now offers fantastic modern British food. Enjoy relaxed dining in our beautiful 16th century coaching inn both lunchtime and evening. Almost everything is made by our kitchen team, right down to our delicious mayonnaise. Sourced local, cooked with passion, served with pride!
Really enjoyed our Sunday roast. Excellent food and service. Will definitely go again.
A lovely addition to Calne, with great food in lovely surroundings.
Food ok but not very interesting. Chips poor. Service good but impersonal. I would have liked to have had some hosting by the staff - when the food is delivered invite people to get stuck in, enquire if everything is satisfactory etc at least once.
Food is absolutely superb, fantastic to find vegan options on a Sunday menu.
Unfortunately the pork was a bit tough but I mentioned this to the waitress at the time. We were quite late too.
Excellent communication from the team at the Lansdowne prior to my wife's birthday meal. On the night the service was first class as was the food, all of our guests only had positive things to say about the eveing. Thank you
Good service, bit disappointed there was no chicken available for roast as I don't eat meat. However, this meant I tried the lentil casserole, which was delicious. Husband said beef was ok.
The food was amazing especially the lamb. The waiter who served us was lovely and very helpful. We will definitely be back.
Food was very pleasant, exceeded expectations. The vegetarian flatbread was a little small for £12. Wine was very nice once we got past the confusion of what wine we actually ordered. Service was fast and friendly. Restaurant was very quiet but we ate quite early and the bar area had a good atmosphere. We will definitely return for dinner and drinks.
Highly recommended, priced a little higher than expected but lovely food
Great value and place food was tasty. And not fussy just wh at you want
We’ve been a number of times since the refurb. The food is excellent and restaurant staff great. However it’s always slow service. There was one person behind the bar so we waited in a queue for a drink. We decided to go to the restaurant and get our table so we could get a drink that way but there was no staff in there. So we ended Up queuing in the snug. Staffing is made worse as since the refurb the main restaurant is at opposite ends of the building to the kitchen meaning when staff are waiting for food they can’t also check on the room. Ultimately we keep going back as the food is excellent and staff always pleasent. It could just be so much better if better staffed with more time from staff to be attentive.
Excellent food - just the right number of choices. Lovely staff that provide fabulous service.
As usual, very high quality of food & great attention from Evy our waitress & Betsy the maitre de.
This was our second family occasion at The Lansdowne in the past month. On both occasions we were very happy with the lovely buffet - it was varied, well presented and there was more than enough of everything to cater for the number we had booked for. Service was very good too and we were looked after by all the staff. We would definitely return again when needing a good venue for a family gathering.
We had a wonderful time celebrating our daughter's christening at your venue. Our guests complimented the food provided and that there was plenty of it to go around so that no one went hungry. We felt we received good value for money. The service was excellent, we were left alone just the right amount so that we felt relaxed and not rushed out in any way, in fact we stayed for almost 7 hours enjoying time with our family and friends over a few drinks, but there was always a member of staff never too far away in case we needed anything. So many people commented on how much they enjoyed the afternoon at the Lansdowne and would definitely recommend as would we! We would certainly book future events with you! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.
Not great and very pricey for what it is. Service from waiter was clearly his first night so can’t be too harsh
The food was cooked well and presented nicely just a little under seasoned but apart from that we would return
Came for lunch on Saturday with my husband and 83 year old mother-in-law. Restaurant very pleasant environment, albeit quiet and little atmosphere. Service was very good, the one waitress working on her own did very well, but hate to think if every table was full! We ate salmon sandwich which was delightful but the menu is misleading as it is not smoked salmon but a smoked poach salmon. My husband had the pork which he thoroughly enjoyed but was pricey at £18.00. I had the ploughmans as you don't see them often, so good news. A nice piece of cheese, lovely ham, no need for the piccalilli or bowl of salad leaves though. Bread was so disappointing, lovely when it arrived warm, but when cold hard as nails and totally inedible. We were visiting from Yorkshire and come to the area regularly, may give it another go.
waldorf style salmon salad with citrus dressing very tasty , glad went for large as was not very big , staff very friendly and attentive , wine was nice and good value , they do serve coffe and tarts /cakes in lounge or instead of deserts which are expensive but very nice each one had 4 parts with interesting combinations( had before and were very good) , but only gluten free option was ice cream unless left some parts out . Go for the flavours , quality and atmosphere
Davin, looked after us & American friends very well, the dishes were well prepared & delicious! So pleased we were able to share our evening with our ,well behaved, dog Monty.
We arranged a wake for my Mothers funeral. The sandwiches were dry(in fact everyone moaned about them afterwards and during)The presentation was dreadful - just stuck on 3 platters ,no slight decoration to make them appealing and nothing to actually indicate what was inside them. My daughter had to find someone to fill up the hot water and coffee. We had no one come in to the room at all!We asked if there was any chance of a cake even saying we would go and buy one if they could cut it up .She was told there was no chef on duty on a Monday ,so who made the sandwiches? or perhaps that is why they were so dry made the night before perhaps? The lovely young lady behind the bar in the afternoon and evening was helpful but I think we as a group annoyed some other customers as I was ordering a large drinks order including hot as the drinks especially the coffee was weak and luke warm. We cam down the next day to speak to the Manager to be told we would have to come down agin later as they were in the building but not on duty - it was the day after my Mums funeral ,emotionally and physically tired.Phone number given but no one phoned my daughter had to phone. She is now dealing with this.
Excellent food and service in the restaurant. Even though it was busy the waiters and waitresses were attentive without being overbearing. We were a party of four and all of us enjoyed the excellent food.
The staff at the Landsdowne were very helpful and accomodating. They helped put up photos and set up a projector. They were flexible on predicted visits of years and coffees which we appreciated. All staff were friendly and helpful. Communication was good and requested for more plates and cups during their entire were acted upon quickly and professionally. Tables are cleared as the event took place.
