About Lady Helen at Mount Juliet Estate
Lady Helen McCalmont, the previous owner of Mount Juliet, was a superb hostess, who oversaw the gardens and kitchens with a kindly but firm hand. We believe she would have been delighted to know we have maintained her standards, and that the restaurant bearing her name also bears a Michelin Star, along with three AA Rosettes.
Our internationally-themed menu consists of dishes made using local ingredients, including many from our own kitchen garden, herb garden and farm. The atmosphere of opulence within the Lady Helen Restaurant complements the pastoral views out over the pastures to the River Nore, racing its way south to Inistioge.
The worst fine dining meal I've ever had. Overwhelming taste of vinegar or pickling liquor across the whole meal. Lamb saddle portion atrocious. No restaurant manager or sommelier directing operations. Incorrectly over charged for the bottle of mediocre wine (only noticed this after we'd left. There were two wines with the same bin number and we'd been charged the wrong one) I was so looking forward to the experience and I was hugely disappointed.
Very pleasant experience
The pace of the courses was just perfect. The ambiance was great (lighting, candles, simplicity)
Both myself and companion had a lovely experience, would definitely recommend
An overuse of burnt apple butter. The wait staff could not answer many questions about the food and seemed irritated if you asked. The wine pairings were done well for the most part which was impressive as the food was not subtle.
Excellent food in superb ambience and beautiful setting, attentive service
An amazing experience, with great food and great service.
Friendly and professional
Main course lamb was not up to expectation. More rare than medium. Very nice menu selection. Service was very nice but sometimes the server would go away and not come back very promptly
Great experience, wonderful food, excellent service and very friendly, knowledgeable and friendly staff. All in all a very memorable experience.
We had a 40th wedding anniversary and were a party of 10 adults and 5 grandkids. We all stayed in the house and had a wonderful 4 day visit. We ate in the private dining room on the Lady Helen and the food and wine were fantastic. Looking forward to our next visit
A meal from the tasting menu in the Lady Helen Room is a fabulous experience. The food is superb!
A very enjoyable evening. Food and Wine excellent. Enjoyed our visit.
Fantastic as always
Lovely restaurant, fantastatic meal. Would recommend
Food was beautiful, and very fresh. There was a varied array of food, and very plentiful. Sadly couldn't say the same for the coffee and teas. The atmosphere was lovely with splendid views of the estate and the room was very comfortable. Sadly the service let down the whole experience. We were never offered water with our coffees and it took us close to 15 mins to get a waiters attention. And when we got his attention he wasn't at all friendly, and both waiters were polishing glasses for the duration - they were not run off their feet. Once our tray of food came, the waiter never approached us afterwards to ask was everything ok or did we need anything else - a very impersonal experience. The lady at the reception and the lady who sat us down were lovely.
Great setting, 7 course tasting menu excellent.
Amazing afternoon tea, the kids afternoon tea was a real treat for my 5 year old daughter, highly recommend and cant wait to go back again
I would like an option of fillet steak to be included as a main course if possible. Other than that, everything else was perfect.
9 course surprise tasting was fantastic
Myself and my wife visited as a treat for our first wedding anniversary, the restaurant and staff were fantastic... at first. We opted for the tasting menu and began with the first course not long after being seated, in fact it came out so fast we had not received our wine pairing yet. As the night went on the courses got slower and the staff were very much less available, we noticed that other tables were coming and going and some tables had overtaken us in courses even though they had arrived after ourselves, as well as noticing that we ourselves had overtaken others who were there when we arrived. As the night went on tables were not being cleared as guests left, which is something I expect from any restaurant I visit, not only Michelin starred ones, and the staff were much more reluctant to ask how our evening was progressing. I would like to mention that the food was near flawless and the staff, when available were an absolute delight, however as mentioned above, they were somewhat less available as our evening progressed. There was also a table of very loud women seated in front of us, I understand that personalities cannot be controlled, but when one is paying a huge amount of money for a special meal in a Michelin starred restaurant a certain amount of etiquette is expected. These ladies had their coats draped on their chairs, falling onto the floor come the time we were leaving, they were also obscenely loud for such a reputable establishment. All in all I do not feel the experience which we paid a great sum of money for was worth it. I have been to other Michelin starred establishments and have always felt greatly satisfied with my meal and the amount paid for such, taking this into consideration I would not recommend your restaurant and would most certainly not return based on the experience we had there. Also I would like to point out that our dinner reservation was for 8pm, we left the restaurant around midnight, as mentioned above I have been to Michelin starred establishments in the past and I have indulged in their tasting menus also. I have never sat for four hours for dinner, my pregnant wife asked could we leave after the 5th course as she was so tired. Frankly this was the most ridiculous element of our visit, as you know our experience was unacceptable. Please feel free to contact me for further information if required, however do realise that there is not much that can be done to change my opinion of your establishment. I appreciate being asked for feedback, but I do realise that it may not even be taken seriously. Time will tell how I feel about your concern on the above matter.
Well short of Michelin standards in technique, flavour, service and presentation.
drink prices more expensive than The Hound which were more expensive than the Clubhouse. From the house to The Hunter's Yard is badly lit.
We had an amazing meal with great service - we will be back, thank you to all the team.
