About Lady Helen at Mount Juliet Estate
Lady Helen McCalmont, the previous owner of Mount Juliet, was a superb hostess, who oversaw the gardens and kitchens with a kindly but firm hand. We believe she would have been delighted to know we have maintained her standards, and that the restaurant bearing her name also bears a Michelin Star, along with three AA Rosettes.
Our internationally-themed menu consists of dishes made using local ingredients, including many from our own kitchen garden, herb garden and farm. The atmosphere of opulence within the Lady Helen Restaurant complements the pastoral views out over the pastures to the River Nore, racing its way south to Inistioge.
We were a group of 8 mature ladies celebrating a special occasion with afternoon tea late in the afternoon. We were delighted to be seated exclusively in the library and were not hurried . Service was good overall. The food was fresh and tasty. It was quiet that evening at Mt Juliet and perhaps some ambient music might have enhanced the atmosphere . It was an overall a very pleasant experience at the Manor house .
Wonderful balance of classical and inventive cooking with high quality ingredients, beautifully presented. Technically faultless on this occasion. Timing of dishes was excellent and service was formal without being overly stuffy- all delivered in a beautiful dining room. Would thoroughly recommend
We had a lovely afternoon in Mount Juliet. The setting is outstanding both the lands around the house and the house itself. Our afternoon tea was excellent. There was an amazing array of delightful food with plenty for everyone. We will definitely be back.
a simple menu option would be nice
Best afternoon tea I have had the pleasure to experience. Staff were super attentive and friendly. Food was delicious. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back. Well done to all involved.
Absolutely loved it!
Food was great
The seven course tasting menu in the Lady Helen restaurant is something that everyone should experience at least once. The food was exquisite and unlike anything we have ever tried before, even in other Michelin star restaurants! It is truly a once in a lifetime experience and we hope to be back again. The staff were so welcoming and made the experience all the more enjoyable. Many thanks.
A wonderful dining experience in a stunning location.
One major point - our room was simply too hot. The windows barely open in that room, as they are prohibited from opening to any extent. It’s odd - it’s cool outside but no air comes in the room. It made the stay uncomfortable. Also note - the dining experience was good, the food excellent, but having no music at all makes the ambiance very poor. The hotel has outstanding features but could use some minor adjustments.
Absolutely wonderful restaurant. From the minute you seat down you feel relaxed. The food is delicious. The staff is attentive and friendly without being intrusive. The room is beautiful. This is our third time this summer staying at Mount Juliet and we are kicking ourselves that we didn’t try the Lady Helen before now as it’s really lovely plus excellent value. A big thank you to Brandon who is always smiling no matter the time of day that he is on duty : breakfast , lunch or dinner.
Had a lovely meal, delicious food with a beautiful view, service was terrific. Wine was good, pricy enough as is the norm in Ireland, but we enjoyed the evening in a traditional setting.
Would have been nice to have been in the main room and not the side room. Having eaten in the main room before, 4 months previously, it would have been nice to be back in there. You are sometimes a little forgotten in the other room. Bit too much up-selling done when it came to the second wine order, which was at the desert stage. The staff however are excellent and very good. The Lady Helen as always, is excellent.
WOW! The tasting menu, paired wine at Lady Helen was superb in every way. Huge compliments to the chef & kitchen staff. The restaurant staff were absolutely amazing in every way, they made us feel like we were the most important people in the restaurant despite all tables occupied. Highly recommend! Thank you all 💐
Excellent food: we had chosen the 9 course surprise menu and every dish was full of flavours. The chef knows how to combine strong and mild flavours together. It was a wonderful experience for our taste buds. Very attentive and friendly staff. Well worth a visit for a special occasion
Food was superb - the foie gras was on a par with the best we have ever had. Staff were friendly, helpful and courteous without being overly formal The elegance of the dining room combined with the view across the river instilled a feeling of total relaxation
Beautiful place and wonderful food
We had the pleasure of meeting Des Magarth while at the hotel for afternoon tea he gave us a history lesson on the hotel which was really nice to hear such knowledge. He was so entertaining he had us in the stitches laughing on more than 1 occasion would definitely go back the man is a total asset to the hotels.
The meal was the most incredible meal of my life. It was stunning.
Very enjoyable experience as the service was very well spaced out, so we could enjoy every course.
Excellent service and food.
We were v.disappointed in our meal and would be reluctant to visit rest. again. We have had dinner there before and was always pleased. Perhaps the chef has changed.
