About La Barbe
La Barbe is a truly French Restaurant, established 35 years ago and located opposite the wonderful Priory Park in Reigate, Surrey. La Barbe is a place that is welcoming, friendly and strongly connected to the landscape. We serve fine, freshly cooked French cuisine with a modern twist and every single day we look at inventing new, interesting dishes.
The atmosphere is informally elegant and French through and through, from the genuinely friendly staff to the decor and, most importantly, the delicious food. Chef Patrick Brandao and his team elaborate a new menu every two months, creating an exciting selection of French dishes with a modern twist presented with the flair you would expect in Reigate’s own corner of France. The emphasis is on local ingredients, freshness, flavour and fabulous presentation. Our restaurant wine list offers carefully selected wines some of which organic from most of the different French wine regions but also some excellent new world wines.
Not for the first time we celebrated my husband’s birthday at La Barbe on Bastille night. As usual the food was wonderful and good wines flowed. The entertainment was quite good (accordionist and can can girls) although the subsequent late evening loud music was a little too much for us and we left earlier than usual. Cost wise (£209 for two, it was expensive for us, but then birthdays only happen once a year!
Just one quibble about an otherwise memorable experience: Slates are fashionable but they make a horrible grating sensation sound and an uncomfortable sensation when you use a knife, and bits of food fall off the sides because there isn't a lip at the edge. Keep slates for roofing, and serve your food on plates.
With another couple celebrating their wedding anniversary, so thought to take them for a special meal. Our second time, it didn’t disappoint.
super restaurant with all the trimmings
Great food, with sincere service.
An excellent French style meal on my birthday, a lovely evening out. The roasted peach desert was worth waiting for.The staff are very attentive and work really hard to help you relax and enjoy the food. The wines are pricey but very good.
Excellent food, great service
An excellent evening of fine dining
Consistently high standard of food and service - thank you!
We felt the quality was the usual high standard , the serving staff slightly casual, overall no as good value for money as in the past.
Lovely meal. Food good, service efficient and friendly, wine list has a good range. Feels a tiny bit expensive but there is no competition for a restaurant of this quality in Reigate so that’s not suprising.
Continues to be the benchmark restaurant in the area. We’ve been going for 20 years and have never had a bad meal
Stunning food and service, probably our best dining experience ever
Always professional and relaxed. Found menu hard this time as nothing plain. But love French food
My favourite restaurant in Surrey - always excellent.
We had a wonderful evening at La Barbe. The food and service were excellent as usual.
We were celebrating my husband's birthday and went for the 3 course menu which was excellent. Friendly service and good atmosphere. We always enjoy going to La Barbe.
Always a ‘treat’ to come to La Barbe. Food & service excellent. So nice to go to a true one off independent restaurant.
Great food, service, and value. Will be coming back!
Longstanding and likely highest-end surviving restaurant in Reigate, offering a consistently authentic classic French experience without resorting to tawdry gimmicky. Serge and team always deliver sound food and service. The last visit on 2 June saw beautifully-cooked navarin of lamb, terrine and foie gras and creme brulee as examples of their wares. Wine-wise, the list is comprehensive, and worthy, but at £40 for the first serious Bordeaux and rising rapidly, it actually exceeds some London outlets. However what value is lost in the wine, is given back across many of the food options. It was my birthday, which somehow got fed back discreetly to staff, who produced the desserts to a rousing chorus of 'Happy Birthday' - not everyone's choice, but they did it as unfussily as possible and it was a gratifying recognition of my ever-advancing age! It's got numerous competitors, over many different cuisines locally. But besides Cote, its more affordable chain equivalent, this is the sole bet for French, and of those two, La Barbe gets my vote every time.
Therewas a problem in the kitchen which meant that we had to wait 30+ minutes for our desserts. A free glass of port helped to alleviate the pain!
Lovely lunch time food.
The evening was excellent. Service was slightly slow as there were many big groups in that night celebrating birthdays. This didnt affect the quality of the food, wine and ambience. Bravo Team La Barbe
A lovely, friendly restaurant with a good and varied choice of dishes on the menu. This was our first visit in over 20 years and we'll be back again next weekend with friends.
perfectly pleasant meal, restaurant a bit hot but it was a fairly humid night
