About Kirkstile Inn
Great Pub food in a stunning location.
Led by Head chef Paul Williamson, the talented kitchen team aim to provide great quality food in a relaxed environment. Coming to Kirkstile is not just for a special occasion. We believe that a good night out with home cooked food should be affordable. Traditional dishes such as Shepherds Pie, Lakeland Steak and Ale Pie and slow cooked Lamb Shank feature on our menus throughout the year. Lakeland Fillet Steak and Cumbrian Chicken are always on our highly prized chalk specials board which changes daily. Watch out also for such dishes as Sticky Toffee Pudding and Glazed Lemon Tart.
In addition we always have two Roasts on a Sunday
A healthy children's menu is always available.
HOME COOKED, LOCAL AND SEASONAL
Kirkstile's team of six chefs are serious about good food. We have a deserved reputation for unpretentious, home-cooked meals and place great emphasis on local Cumbrian and Lake District suppliers. With a seasonal changing menu we always offer a good selection of fish and vegetarian dishes. We also cater for vegans.
Our famous bar can be really busy and always has a great atmosphere! Inside are low beamed rooms with welcoming open fires, good food, willing and friendly service, the same warm hospitality that has always characterised a good English Inn
We have a superb carefully selected wine list which include 13 wines by the glass. We also stock an extensive range of gins, whiskies and other spirits.
We have 5/6 real ales from our own brewery on the Bar at any time. Specials as well as Loweswater Gold, Langdale, Esthwaite Bitter and always a dark one, perhaps Grasmoor or our celebreated Vanilla Oatmeal Stout. Or perhaps you fancy a pint of our own lager, Buttermere Beauty.
Very quiet but as good as usual
Gorgeous old pub especially with the Christmas decorations. Food tasted fantastic, I dont know how the chef gets the tattie pot so rich and full of flavour.
We love the Kirkstile but unfortunately this time our experience was poor. The older woman serving us wasn’t welcoming or friendly. The steak pie was great, fish and chips not so great. The fish was very dry and there was twice as much batter as fish. Usually the fish is excellent. As our last meal before lockdown we were disappointed. The Loweswater gold was poor. Obviously the circumstances were to blame but don’t charge full price if you’re serving the dregs of stock. We look forward to returning under brighter circumstances. Hope this feedback is useful.
Lovely staff, great service
Fabulous as always xxx
This place ticks all the boxes for me.Excellent service , food and great location. Only problem is they are so popular not enough space in car park at times. Stay safe .
Lovely food, lovely setting and friendly and attentive staff. Thanks
Booked well in advance but were given probably the worst table in the pub right between 2 dining areas. Asked politely if we could have one of the 2 spare tables in the bar near the fire but were refused. 2 other tables became available in this area almost immediately but were immediately offered to "walk ins" The original spare tables were never occupied. We complained but they wouldn't give an explanation just kept saying sorry. Food was lovely but it was a very poor dining experience with people having to pass very closely the whole time.
Lovely food, good service. We will definitely return.
Food was great as ever. Very helpful lady dressed as a witch for Halloween found us a table in the main bar so we could show off the pub to some visitors. Would definitely recommend a meal here.
We had heard great things and were disappointed. We were given a table in a corridor for lunch, which had no atmosphere and no character. The main pub which seemed lovely and atmospheric when I walked through it to access the toilet was at less than 50% capacity. We attended on Sunday, but there was no roast on the menu and no roast verbally offered. I had the pie, the filling was nice, but the pastry was over cooked. The vegetables were over boiled so they lacked flavour and the gravy lacked flavour. The sticky toffee pudding was very tasty. The service was acceptable, but lacked attention, probably due to the fact that we were in a corridor out of the way.
Have been going here for many years and congratulations the high standards have been maintained .We had a lovely Sunday lunch and the service and food could not have been better. Will look forward to returning.Great beer ,great food ,great service and great value.
Fantastic meal, great beer, perfect lunch!
Thank you for a special evening. Your staff are so friendly and we really appreciated the Halloween atmosphere and the dressing up. You are a great team. Hope you will all be okay over next few weeks.
Excellent as ever
Lovely meal - best Tatie Pot in Cumbria!
Lovely welcoming service; great food and beer. Very sensible Covid precautions that kept everyone relaxed
Perfect service and great food !
Absolutely wonderful, very friendly staff, delicious food and guidelines in place to ensure safety. Would def recommend and we will def be back
Lovely lunch as always. Gorgeous views whilst warm and cosy. We felt very safe with everyone following coronavirus rules.
Fantastic food and drinks and service! We were sat near the door which was a bit drafty. I just wish I had left room for pudding, will have to come back again just to try the sticky toffee pudding!
Love this place and the food is always delicious. The welcome was still warm despite the restrictions in place.
Always our favourite place to visit on our trips to the Lake District and it didn’t disappoint! A lovely atmosphere and fabulous food as always!
Great & most enjoyable meal
