Make way for the hottest new spot in Britomart Square – Kingi has arrived. Celebrating New Zealand seafood, the restaurant harbours a chic interior with a sleek, refined menu to match; mainly comprised of local, sustainably sourced seafood. From the masterminds of Orphans Kitchen & Daily Bread, Kingi’s evening menu consists of three sections – Antipasti involving octopus carpaccio and hot smoked Kahawai, a raw bar featuring Chatham Island Kina on toast, and an a la carte menu of crayfish rolls, blue cod buttermilk wings, and the Kingi Burger. Picture cosy wood-burning fireplaces, marbled tabletops, cool lighting, and the exposed brick of The Hotel Britomart, and there you have Kingi. Indulge in all New Zealand’s nature has to offer and wash it down with fine wine.
I thought the food was uninspired and without any memorable features. I would not go back to eat at this restaurant.
Sublime. inventive and delicious food, interesting wine list, friendly and unobtrusive service, and an extremely beautiful fit out and setting in which to enjoy these delights. Really, really, life-affirmingly good
Loved it, everything about it ! We were seated and looked after by Tom the chef. Thanks for the lovely evening.
We had an awesome night and we have recommended your venue to other friends already. Thank you for a wonderful experience, we will be back... Kind regards, John & Jaki
Beautiful food and service
Extremely disappointed with our experience last night your wait staff definitely need some training on good customer service , your fit out is great but I have never been to a restaurant wheee we had to constantly pour our own wine , constantly ask for our water to be topped up , one of our entrees was forgotten & when it finally came out we needed to pay for more bread to go with it ( I would have thought this could have been complimentary)& then from our deserts being cleared we sat there for half an hour not being asked if we wanted coffee or anything else , We made our feelings known to the manager who used the excuse that she was busy looking after a table in the other dining room! We paid our bill & left and despite being the table closest to the reservation desk where what staff that were left were milling around no one thanked us for coming or mentioned the fact that our evening wasn’t the best . I’ve never had to write feedback like this before I hope you take it on board & have a chat to your staff , sorry to say we won’t be back
Excellent food, service was adequate but not outstanding. Atmosphere was nice however we felt like we were sitting in a thoroughfare rather than a restaurant. Food was on the pricey side for the size of portions
Service was non-existent
Great lunch, super food, lovely spot, well looked after
This was our second time at Kingi, and it was another excellent experience. Amazing food and wine, and friendly, professional service - the staff are some of the best in Auckland. Would highly recommend.
Our first impression was one of being ignored by your maitre d'. Not a good start. Left standing in a very draughty spot for about 5 minutes before we were approached by someone who was not enjoying their evening. We were seated at the far end which was similarly cold and had to ask to be moved. Menu interesting but needed some clarification. We ordered the taramasalata which was delicious but there was no mention of needing to add bread (luckily we had). When asked waitress was helpful but did not offer any explanations. Rest of the meal was good and the wine was interesting. Maybe a few more wines by the glass would be good.
Need more side options to go with mains ie French fries!!! Menu very limited just seafood need to cater to meat, veggie & vegans!!
Outstanding meal and the service was amazing! I can’t wait to come back and try some more of the dishes
Dinning in the Hotel Lobby suited our group very well as it had less background noise (music) than the main restaurant and those sitting on the couch seats were very comfortable. My mother enjoyed her 95th birthday at your restaurant. We will be back.
Sadly the service was very average. Incredibly slow, impossible to order, get drinks or any waiters attention. Shame, as it’s a stunning location
Amazing food and the bar staff and chefs were fantastic. The table service was incredibly slow
We girls loved our experience at Kingi , amazing atmosphere and compact menu .Every dish was delicious, but the size of the snapper and risotto main was disappointing but Devine .
I'm not usually one to provide negative feedback but I feel compelled to after my experience at Kingi lastnight. There's no question that the decor and aesthetic of Kingi is beautiful. My partner and I were so impressed when we walked in. We were really looking forward to the night which happened to be a very special celebration for us. However, I have little words to describe the service apart from that it was appalling. Aside from the bare minimum of taking our order, there was not a single smile, question, or follow up from our waitress the entire night. The restaurant was freezing cold, we were noticeably shivering but there wasn’t an opportunity to ask for a heater or a blanket as the waitress simply didn’t give us a moment of her time. After delivering our meals she was gone without a word, before we could even ask a question or thank her. For a restaurant so proud to support NZ local and sustainably caught seafood, it’s a shame that it’s so let down by the staff that serve it. I would have loved a second glass of wine but I literally could not get the attention of our waitress to ask. When she finally cleared our plates that was it. We didn’t see her again. No question if we had finished, if we wanted dessert. We just sat there at our empty table for a while before we realised this must be the end of the night… Since this was such a special occasion for us, we were gutted when we left. The staff were so cold and unfriendly that it was a huge dampener on what was meant to be a lovely night. We go out for dinner a lot in Auckland, probably twice a week. I have never had an experience like this. With all the incredible restaurants Auckland has to offer, all with such warm and friendly service, I will never return to Kingi. And I will make sure I let others know to avoid it. Please spend your hard-earned money elsewhere!!
great food and great concept service was very mixed
We have the best lunch today! The staff were all super nice and the food was unreal. We sat out in the courtyard and it was beautiful. We will be back again!!
We celebrated our anniversary and have enjoyed our dining experience. The food were simple but all fresh and very good! Will go back again
Such a fantastic meal- perfect balance of service/ambiance/cuisine!
Food great. Beautiful space. Flounder was delicious, snapper and burrata fantastic and the flat bread is outstanding. Great waiter, but as it got busier, drinks were forgotten and serve became a little slow. Nothing major. Good time and would recommend.
A great concept. Fun place . But...the food just does not make the grade. Cod wings fun to look at but no actual substance . Let's get the Chatham island blue cod itself in a dish. This whole venture could founder if more care and substance does not go into the menu Sometimes clever clever brings a rush of clientele eager for the latest buzz but then will not get those loyal returns.
Waitress could have been more aware
