Make way for the hottest new spot in Britomart Square – Kingi has arrived. Celebrating New Zealand seafood, the restaurant harbours a chic interior with a sleek, refined menu to match; mainly comprised of local, sustainably sourced seafood. From the masterminds of Orphans Kitchen & Daily Bread, Kingi’s evening menu consists of three sections – Antipasti involving octopus carpaccio and hot smoked Kahawai, a raw bar featuring Chatham Island Kina on toast, and an a la carte menu of crayfish rolls, blue cod buttermilk wings, and the Kingi Burger. Picture cosy wood-burning fireplaces, marbled tabletops, cool lighting, and the exposed brick of The Hotel Britomart, and there you have Kingi. Indulge in all New Zealand’s nature has to offer and wash it down with fine wine.
Absolutely fantastic evening. Our waitress Rachel was delightful . Thank you ❤️
Wonderful service Sean was great
Stunning setting, interesting menu and tasty beautifully presented seafood, love the information about where and who you source food from. Staff and service pretty lacklustre, they need to be much better informed about menu (cavatelli is not “sort of like macaroni”, a complete undersell) and a little more engaged with customers. An issue that needs to be addressed is informing staff that if customers need access to disabled toilet, there is one in hotel and guidance/key to access is available. The young man who finally helped was great, but out table person was not at all. (Same person who didn’t have any idea about menu - being young, tall, slim and blonde is NOT a substitute for good service.
Service wasn’t great
Absolutely stunning food!!!
No mushrooms and the tomato dish appears to have shrunk?
Absolutely stunning meal, with great service and wines to match.
Thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We will definitely be back.
Great place. Will be back.
Love the setting and deco. Service is friendly and good though would suggest no need to keep changing plates-once after the antipasti be sufficient. Food is delicious and the oyster mushrooms as well as the flounder (love to be able to add side dish of rice with it) are standouts. Though the paua dish is a miss for us as there is hardly any squid visible and the pasta didn't absorb the sauce well.
Our host Justin was amazing. Very knowledgeable and catered to our dining needs. Very well done and thank you for a lovely lunch
Absolutely loved it, great service, food, atmosphere and decor.
Service Bad Sardines are not Mackerel My meal was good
Loved the new Britomart Hotel design including the design / concept of the Kingi Restaurant. The martini's are very good, as is the wine list but unfortunately the rest of the meal fell a bit flat, not helped by amateur level service. Our raw bar order...clams and oysters came out as a second course and the waiting staff were perplexed when this was raised as an issue. there was long delays between drinks orders and the food, although looked promising on the menu fell flat...small portions and lacking in the flavor, quirky panache of Orphans Kitchen. Suggest that this offering needs urgent attention.
Perfect in every way.
D E L I C I O U S , already planning our next visit!
What a stunning evening. Fabulous food, service and atmosphere. Very impressed with Sommelier Michael - his knowledge blew us away and he introduced us to a few awesome Red wines. We will return.........
Very enjoyable dining experience.
Food was fresh and delicious. Would definitely recommend.
The staff are fantastic
Great evening. Terrific food and service. A really pleasant evening in a very special environment. The architecture is brilliant. We will be back.
A beautiful setting tarnished by poor service. Very disappointed with our evening here, the lack of attention to our table was just the beginning, the restaurant was not overly busy and there were plenty of staff that no waiter seemed over whelmed. From over flowing ice from the oysters on our table to empty water glasses. We ordered our mains and as we were told it was sharing menu I asked if we had ordered enough, the water said yes! Almost an hour had passed and the waiter tells us the kitchen lost our order and that the food would be ready soon, not once did the waiter apologies for the late food or ask would we like another drink while we waited as our glasses were almost empty it would have been nice to be asked. The mains arrived which were tiny, which I have no issue with in a fine dining restaurant but if your going to tell us it is a shared menu and that ‘Yes’ we have ordered enough food, clearly the waiter had no idea or just didn’t care enough to tell us to order more. We had to order the burger for our partners as it simply not enough. Not once were we asked how is everything? Are you enjoying it. The waiter never asked if we would like dessert, which we would have, if offered. The waiter could have made a lot more money from us if he had been bothered. We paid, again no one apologised for our lost food order or offered at least one element of the meal to to complementary. We got up from our table to which no one acknowledged that we had left, not that we need to but it adds the last bad element to an already average evening.
Thank you for the most amazing food experience! We will definitely be returning again.
Terrible food gorgeous fit out and atmosphere very average service. Disappointing overall
Had a wonderful evening and it was refreshing not to be kicked out after 2hrs
