About Kilworth House Hotel
The Victorian Orangery has become a destination in its own right. Now fully restored it is light and airy by day and romantic by night. The ever changing light means that the mood feels right any time of day for breakfast, lunch, full afternoon tea and informal dinner. The maximum seating on one table is 12 guests. Up to 130 guests can dine beneath the Orangery's glass, timber and ornate wrought iron ceiling. The Orangery restaurant is closed on a Sunday evening but dinner is served in the Library Restaurant.
The Wordsworth Restaurant with its domed ceiling, glittering chandeliers and fireplace creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere in which to enjoy a 2AA Rosette a la carte dinner. Open from Wednesday to Saturday.
The Library Restaurant offers a luxurious ambience with bookcases and a Victorian fireplace to create the welcoming surroundings with views over the knot garden courtyard. Dining is available on Sunday evenings for dinner and at other times when The Orangery and Wordsworth Restaurants are fully booked.
All three restaurants can also be booked for events, private dining and weddings; subject to availability.
The Orangery Restaurant serves an informal modern British menu whilst The Wordsworth Restaurant serves a more formal a la carte menu.
The dress code in the Wordsworth Restaurant is smart casual
Kilworth House is a lovely destination for coffee and lunch. The ambiance is superb if you enjoy luxuriating in the comfortable lounge of a stately home. The service is impeccable. What let down our recent visit was the paucity of portions of the lunchtime menu. Okay it was lunchtime and the food quantity won’t damage your waistline but there was no corresponding economy on the prices. But if you like good cutlery and crisp napkins you won’t be disappointed.
The table service was excellent. Setting full of character. The table was too small for four people with three plate towers (one vegetarian) - it felt a bit cramped. The savoury scones contained chilli that was too spicy and was not made known when ordering - having said that, they were replaced with plain scones when requested with out any quibble. Overall, a special occasion was had - although when we were the last guests in the Orangery, we would have happily taken a cup of tea into the lounge to allow the staff to reset the tables.
Jamie was our host and was very attentive and provided an excellent service
Very disappointing experience on many levels. Staff did not engage, very inattentive - had to 'flag' someone down to get our drinks (which had been requested some 15 mins before). Once our tea and food were delivered, we were not approached AT ALL by anyone to see if we were happy, wanted any more drinks - it was afternoon TEA and we got the smallest pot each and absolutely no offer of a top up or even some hot water. All staff seemed extremely disinterested in any guests experience...this may be something they do day in, day out but to guests, it's probably a special treat. To top it all off, when I paid for the additional drink that I did manage to order, again by flagging a member of staff down, an additional £1 was added to the payment for charity - I'm absolutely fine with this but NOT with not being asked or advised that this would happen. Will not be coming back and will not recommend. Sorry!
Not my first visit (or stay) at Kilworth House and as always a nice place. I like the slight formality (not stuffy but not over-familiar) and the elegant surroundings (the building, decor and the grounds) make it a great destination for an overnight stay.
Lovely setting for afternoon tea and good selection of savoury and sweet treats.
Despite there being plenty of staff around us and not many diners we were poorly attended to and had to wait a long time between courses and even getting a drink .. then after getting the bill the till was broken and had to wait a very long time to get our change it’s a shame the staff seemed keener in dressing the empty tables up than waiting on the few diners that were in
Excellent quality food and service in outstanding surroundings. Very relaxed. Great value for money. Thank you.
Payment with a debit card was embarrassing, rejecting the payment twice. Sent to reception, where it was immediately accepted. No receipt was available: Not very good in front of our 10 guests. Everything else was superb:
Very enjoyable afternoon, warm and a lovely atmosphere , staff really attentive
So very disappointed. 30/45 minute wait between courses. Vegan main was literally one piece of roasted onion/carrot/potato/parsnip and half a garlic bulb with the smallest jug of gravy and a few side vegetables. I requested a jug of gravy each but it never came. The wait and level of food quality was simply not worth it and we didn't get the feeling of being 'looked after'. Sadly, will not be returning which is a shame as it's been so much better previously. I had high expectations but my birthday lunch was spoiled.
Lovely day afternoon tea with friends. Only thing I would say is I think for how much you are charging for lager you should put it in a proper glass not a bitter glass not what you expect for a lovely place like kilworth house.
The booking process was easy and without exception all staff were polite, professional, delightful and keen to please. In every way the staff and atmosphere and the room were all fantastic. My wife’s expectations and indeed mu expectations were exceeded and we will use Kilworth House again as will many of our guest all of whom were so complimentary of Kilworth House and your staff. Excellent food, surroundings and location. Service was not the best, had to wait so long between courses, brought wrong main course out, pork instead of beef, replaced it after a wait, didn’t get offered any sauces, took dessert order we asked for coffees with desserts, the coffee didn’t arrive until we had eaten out desserts and about to leave. Have been many times always been perfect but yesterday service could of been much better.
I found the 'Afternoon Tea' a disappointing experience. I had purchased this for my elderly parents as a Christmas gift with myself and youngest son attending as well. I was struck by how plain and the crockery was. I had expected delicate bone china cups or, at least, a more imaginative style of presenting the table. We were also placed by the service area which, in hindsight, I should have complained about as there were plenty of tables near the windows in the Orangery! The food was lack-lustre. The sandwiches were stale and the selection of cakes unimaginative. The food looked as if it had been prepared well in advance and had been waiting around. I appreciate that there are many covers but this was not at all what I was expecting. Staff were polite but this did not make up for the food! Definitely not worth £25 per head!
It was a great afternoon tea, delicious selections of savoury and sweet abs great service. Thank you
Everything about Kilworth House was perfect, friendly and polite staff, I was very impressed with the meet and greet. My sister and I were not rushed after our afternoon tea, we often visit Kilworth House, for dinner and shows, we have also been to family weddings. I love the decor and the feel of the house and will definitely be coming back soon.
Always enjoy our visits . Would have preferred fewer sweet options when we had afternoon tea another sandwich would have been better
Lovely place and the food and service were excellent
Always a lovely experience at Kilworth. We visit regularly but at Christmas have a family get together here. It's one day we all look forward to and it never disappoints. Looking forward to visiting for a meal and theatre in the summer.
We had a really enjoyable time with friends who don’t live in the area. Kilworth always provides that ‘special’ atmosphere that makes Christmas. Our friends thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and all that Kilworth has to offer. Thank you.
Hi, I paid for a champagne afternoon tea for 2 - we were left waiting in the lounge for a while on our own - we had to find staff to service us - we were moved into one of your dark dinning rooms which we didn’t want to stay - we thought we would be in the orangery but was told you do not do afternoon tea there over the Xmas period -one of your colleagues kindly moved us into the lounge when we complained. The afternoon tea was not very good because there was more sweet items than savoury and the cakes were brightly coloured for Christmas but aimed at children it lacked sophistication- there was a lack of service and I noticed the tables were not cleaned up when people left. However I found The manager who came on the night duty to be he very attentive and I did say all the above as he did ask me if we had had a nice time and if there was areas for improvement. I have been to Kiiworth house on the past on many occasions I even had a large 40th birthday party there 16 years ago -which was excellent. I feel now Kilworth house is run more cooperate and lacks a hands on personal service. I was extremely disappointed and feel the staff need more training - what a shame such a lovely building in a beautiful grounds. I attend Hambleton Hall on a regular basis and feel you need to adopt there approach when it comes to hospitality - you are made to feel very specially and the staff are all excellent ! Regards Karin Limer
Lovely festive afternoon tea - excellent service , lovely food presented beautifully
Really enjoyed experience, staff very attentive and friendly, lovely setting and atmosphere, definitely visit again.
Lovely afternoon tea but we waited at least 10 mins after the food came for our tea. I paid for a prosecco and barely got half a glass. Was boiling hot next to the radiator. All other tables got offered water and we did not. We were given our bill for our prosecco as we were eating our sandwiches. Not great for a fancy place and a 30th birthday treat.
