About Kappou Japanese Sushi Tapas Bar
Located in the Central Business District, Kappou Japanese Sushi Tapas Bar is a hidden gem that provides affordable authentic Japanese Omakase and a wide range of Sakes, Shochus and Wines to compliment your dining experience. The cosy restaurant sits only 12 diners counter-style, a reminiscence of traditional restaurants in Japan. Chef Aeron Choo has appeared in numerous national newspaper articles, magazine write-ups, blog reviews and social media channels.
Kappou Japanese Sushi Tapas Bar is a reserve only restaurant due to its small seating. Please note that due to the small seating capacity, all customers must purchase at least one alcoholic beverage during their meal. Kappou Japanese Sushi Tapas Bar is not suitable for kids dining.

Aeron is really laidback, friendly and generous.
We had a great time with awesome food and a crazy fun host!
An exceedingly wonderful experience. This young Chef is truly something special.
The good news is the food is legit and good. Chef knows her stuff and marries great flavours together. The price point is good and there’s a wide selection of drinks available. The bad news is we sat next to a person who was disposing sake onto the floor under the counter because he was trying to keep up with drinking, with another rowdy group (whom he just met that night). He did it 3 times till the floor was completely wet, and sake was splattered onto my shoes and legs. I confronted him and told him to ask for a bucket if he needed to dispose of the sake, and not onto the floor. Not a fault of the Chef as she didn’t know, but it was the most disgusting experience at a restaurant I’ve ever encountered. For the number of people there that night, Chef and 2 assistants were struggling with service. We were there from 7pm and left “early” at 10pm. We called for the bill and they immediately served the dessert, else service would’ve lasted longer. Perhaps a sous chef is required to improve operations of the restaurant. Just some feedback for the Chef - we cannot choose our customers and it can be hard to please everyone, but if you are aware of the rowdy regulars attending, it would be a good idea to space your customers out or close the restaurant for them depending on group size. Don’t forget about your other customers who are there to appreciate your talent and food as well.
This was my third time to Kappou. First 2 times I would rate 4.25 / 5 because of chef aeron’s creativity and personable character. I was so impressed that I brought 2 more buddies this time. Last night was a disappointment in many ways. A somewhat Jekyll & Hyde experience. It started well with a couple of OK dishes, couple of excellent dishes but thereafter, things went downhill & crashed badly. To summarize: - service took too long. We ended at around 11pm! We started at around 730pm. Previously, our dinner ended at around 10pm (been told that you need 3 hours to complete). But 11pm was too much. Either she was understaffed or too busy drinking with her regulars, to better pace the dinner. Previously, it was 3-4 staff serving 12 pax. Last night was 2 staff serving 18! - noticeably lower quality and variety of ingredients at her disposal during the second half of dinner. She somehow lost the plot or some big kitchen boo-boo happened. We were served the same prawn soup (which was excellent with the prawn ball in the first half) AND another miso soup towards the end. Yes 3 soups in a night. There was no other fish, whether cooked or sashimi, apart from tuna. Even the tuna was limited! Only served for sashimi. Previously we had a few nigiris & even handroll. The place is called Kappou sushi but nope, there wasn’t any sushi last night! Only an ikura don. We had the caviar & uni course and guess what, they forgot our caviar! The chef actually wanted to leave at 10+ for her social appointment while dinner was still underway. Her staff were scooping ice cream so she probably thought her day was done but pls, all your diners are still around, no thanks to the slow service, at least stay till full closing. I had to remind the staff that they missed out our caviar and she immediately ran after the chef, who came back flustered and hastily whipped up another ice cream dessert “topped” with caviar. Not really a complain but just another point to prove that the chef was OFF last night. No Polaroid pic with diners (with personal message) which was one of her endearing traits. Overall, a bad experience. If chef Aeron doesn’t buck up in terms of service, quality of dishes & attitude, I fear for the future of Kappou.
awesome food made with so much passion, in an intimate dining setting, always great to be surprised 😁...
Had an amazing Valentine’s Day there with my girlfriend - always love my time there! Look forward to eating again at Kappou sushi!!
The food is Creative and well seasoned. This my second time and the food is still wonderful
Thanks for the wonderful cuisine and friendly service! Always so fun to dine here!
Very delicious food and makes me feel like I'm in Japan.
Perfect countdown to the new year. All the dishes I had (except for the last two signature caviar and tuna uni dishes) were unique, novel, different from my previous dinners there, super tasty. Chef was entertaining and passionate as usual. What a treat! Must try if you haven’t! :)
The quality of the dishes have been inconsistent. Chef’s hard work and thoughtfulness are there, but they don’t necessary translate into great dishes, which is what this place should be about.
Food is creative and delicious. Aeron’s knowledge of sake and sequencing of the different varieties pairing with the good made it sensational experience for us and our guests ! Ambience was super not just for food and conversations, we ended the night with canton pop Sing a long and enjoyment of exquisite glenfidich 23- year old whiskey and Kyoto KI NonBi tea !
Can’t wait to come back soon xxx
I have been to Kappou twice and in both occasions enjoyed the food and the overall experience. Strongly recommended.
Chef was absolutely stunning in all aspects. Creativity. Skill. Passion. Authenticity. Quality.
great execution and ideas. it was an enjoyable meal. Value for money, but mandatory alcoholic beverage order increases the cost of the meal by quite abit.
Impressive omakase by one-woman-show! Filling dinner, superb yummy food! It was a relaxing and happy dinner experience as both chef and patrons were very friendly. Will come back again! 😊
Extremely creative and delicious creations. She makes one of the best tuna hand rolls, ever!
Dedication and mindfulness to ingredients and preparation is what sets Aeron Choo apart from the rest. Her menu changes every 3 days, so it's never boring. Excellent.
Food is really good. Been back 3 times in last 6 months. Space is a little cramp
I’m blown away by the different menu every time I go to her restaurant. Chef Aeron has in-depth knowledge of the food she is preparing and it truly shows in her cooking. Her food is delicious! This restaurant’s sashimi and sushi is one of the best in Singapore. I’m a fan.
Food was awesome: fresh, succulent and most importantly, made with much sincerity. Thanks for the delicious meal!
Chef Aeron is possible the most authentic Japanese chef in Singapore. Kudos to her uncompromising standards to bring in almost 100% of the ingredients from renowned spots of Japan that specializes in the particular items. Sashimi is very very fresh. The sauces are traditionally made in Japan. Wow! Wow! Wow!!
Awesome food and hospitality. Thumbs up!! :)
