About John Anthony
John Anthony represents the best of many worlds. The restaurant embodies traditional Chinese cuisine that has been perfected over generations, with a modern twist. By taking the most beloved dishes from local Cantonese cuisine and adding an element of surprise with nontraditional spices and cooking techniques, John Anthony aims to create a unique harmony of street-inspired food.
Food is delicious with nice dining enviornment. Staff Friendly.
All of the food we ordered are great except for the beef cha siu, we all felt a bit of a let down especially at its price. There is a min. spending for the "private room" reservation. However upon arriving, we realised it is just a table hidden in the corner. I would appreciate if the staff have notified me about the layout of the "private room" when it is the restaruant offering me the option when I made the booking. The total of our bill came close to the min. spending but I just feel they should be more "honest" as someone might be expecting something more private.
The food was surprisingly good! Lived up to the hype. Sommelier was very friendly too. Loved the salt baked chicken, eel, lion head, and beef noodles.
Service was not attentive, staff looked like they did not want to be there, asked for sauce 3 times before they brought 1 dish of soy sauce for dumplings.
It is unbelievable that you designate your customer to sit at the table right under the engine room. And when I asked to move, I was offered a 6 person table to sit 7 person?!?!? At the end I was offered another longer table next to the original one but I could still hear the noise. Tea was bland. Table was unclean. 3 tea cups where VERY badly chipped. 1 bowl had a MASSIVE crack plus chipped inside AND outside. I cannot believe that having an average check of at least $500 per head I am still being given chipped and broken tablewares, just like what I get from local chinese restaurants with an average check of $200. Food was creative and taste nice. However, I will never recommend your restaurant to anyone I know.
Lunch for three persons - don't forget to try the Wagyu beef cheek, watermelon and chili comb, as well as the uni and crab roll.
The design of the space was amazing however we found the food lacked the authentic flavours of the dishes. It seemed the dishes were designed to appeal more to a foreign clientele who have never tried the real Cantonese/Sichuan dishes. There are plenty of options serving the better quality of food in the area.
The food was terrific but there is certainly room for improvement in terms of service. It took a long while for the empty dishes to be taken away and despite there being staff on the floor, we needed to wave our hands up in the air to get attention. All that being said, we arranged birthday buns for our friend - the buns were super yummy and the bday greetings were beautifully written.
The ambience is really nice! Great for date night. The food was great, a bit on the pricey side but we really liked the food. So I personally felt it was value for money. Staff friendliness can be improved, the lady and the guy who welcomed me to our table was not too friendly. I asked to change seats and did not feel that the guy was happy with that at all. Aside from that, our overall experience in John Anthony was great!
Great décor, awesome service and absolutely delicious food and drinks. 8/8 would recommend.
Little space for a big group of people like us (6 pax) to have dinner on special occasion. Would not recommend friends to come on special occasion or with a group of 4 or above. Service is not up to our expectation. Staffs are not helpful, e.g. not familiar with the menu, not helping me to open the washroom door when needed, not communicating well and keep asking us similar questions that we have already answered, and so on.
Been there for 3-4 times and tried many different dishes. Almost all dishes are great except the spare ribs which is dry and slightly hard. Cocktails are good too. One thing not sure if you can improve is the area before you go into the washroom where it has low ceiling which trap the noise. I need to almost shout to friends across my table. Anyway good experience and will go again but perhaps I would ask to sit in the other sections close to the entrance.
Some of the dishes are super tiny
Charging $50 per person for cake cutting is very steep. The restaurant should waive the fee if patrons also order desserts off the menu. Or give patrons this option. Also the portions are on the smaller side.
Personally am a big fan for mott 32 and JA definitely meeting the expected standard. Food is great, the wagyu char siu and salt baked chicken is the highlight. Service could be better tho in term of product knowledge, serving speed and attention. Overall a joyful dining experience and will definitely return for more.
Dear Jeniffer, Overall I am quite satisfied with all the food last night. However, except few things below: 1. No Dim sum at night (just my opinion, and understanding the difficulty to manage the combinations 2. We ordered lamb rack, turns out only 1 pcs of lamb rack was served...for 2 person! I am glad a HK waitress she made the correction and explained to us. Highly appreciate she tried her best to interact and serve us with joys. 3. Nothing was written on the dessert plate, even I have requested and confirmed ... your restaurant probably not fit for birthday dinner... I am disappointed. Regards, Jason
wonderful staff, food and cocktails.
Excellent ambiance and food! Very efficient service. Recommending and definitely coming back!
Great food and atmosphere.
Food is innovative and one bite with various tastes which I don’t think we can find in any restaurants! Staff serving us is having pleasant character and diligent. Much appreciated.
Interesting space in the lower level, nice bar area with tropical decor. Portions are well sized, the food was very good
Music was way too loud. Couldn't hear the people talking at our table. Food was a bit slow, but good tasting. Price was expensive for what it was.
Too noisy environment and insufficient waiter/ waitress.
Food was impressive but I have to this was an unpleasant dining experience indeed. In the midst of our dinner, a cake was thrown at my top by other diners for 2 times. I understand that they did not mean to but frankly saying, it was really awful. I have NEVER expected I would get thrown by a cake during a dinner at John Anthony. My clothing was stained already and then the second time came. Literally I came to John Anthony as I knew it was by the creators behind Mott 32. Regrettably I have to say -this was truly an 'unforgettable' dining experience.
Good food, good location. But when I sat inside the room, I felt a bit dark. I preferred outside of the room as brighter bar and feel more pleasant. Thanks.
