About John Anthony
John Anthony represents the best of many worlds. The restaurant embodies traditional Chinese cuisine that has been perfected over generations, with a modern twist. By taking the most beloved dishes from local Cantonese cuisine and adding an element of surprise with nontraditional spices and cooking techniques, John Anthony aims to create a unique harmony of street-inspired food.
Food tasted good, but the portions are small.
The food was really amazing
Food in general was good but atmosphere & surroundings were bad. Music was too loud to the extent of disturbing (what’re the reasons for putting on the music?), people had to raise their voice to talk as they could barely hear each other. Tables were too close to each other that worsened the noise level, table setup in rectangle meant people sitting in the two ends couldn’t talk unless they’re to yell (for a bigger group of people). For those who don’t speak English, they might have problems to order food; who are your targeted customers?
Food in general was pretty amazing. Quality of service varies from individuals, some are very attentive and others not so, they seemed pretty understaffed. Would recommend: - beef tendon with smoked tea egg - fried garoupa with garlic & chilli - whole crab sticky rice Overrated: -iberico pork char siu Side note: Drinks are very weak, can't even taste the alcohol, I personally am very sensitive to alcohol and I couldn't even taste the alcohol in the drinks. Things for restaurant management to take note of: One particular waitress was really rude, she pretended she didn't hear us or saw us when we asked for assistant and she just walked away and made us felt like we were invisible. Another waitress who had really long hair (would be better if she could tie her hair into a bun with less lose ends) accidentally hit my friend's face a few times when she walk pass n turned around, it's actually very unhygienic and disgusting for the customers who's trying to enjoy their meal there.
I don't understand why need to speak Chinese to order Chinese food, come on, we are in hk. The food tasted ok, but portion is too small compared to it's price, also many of them are spicy, not much choices for non spicy food. I would say this restaurant is good for foreigner, but not for locals.
Very nice BBQ pork!! But the bubble tea cocktail didn’t taste as good
We enjoyed the food & the coconut dessert! Definitely will visit again! The chicken is OK but not worth for $880 + 10% nearly $1000. Next time we will try the roast chicken.
Great lunch venue, food was good too.
1. we were not allowed to open our own bottle of whiskey, which is quite a hassle 2. your wine corkage fee is HKD500, abnormally high compared to other better class restaurants 3. waiters weren't as attentive, and in certain cases quite rude when we had one more guest joining and requested for a bigger table 4. order wasn't handled right. We asked for 5 pieces of every dim sum dish we ordered. Most came with 5. And one came with only 3, and we had to chase it twice. Overall, I'd say our experience was much worse than that offered at Mott 32.
We had an amazing experience at John Anthony, the food was delicious - we tried a selection of dim sum, BBQ, meat, fish and desserts for lunch (the soft shell crab dumpling was my favorite), the service is friendly and on point, and the deco beautiful, couldn't stop looking at all the details. And my favorite, their sustainability efforts!
Food is fine, atmosphere is great, but service is a bit slow and some not quite polite, need improvement on service.
Only small portion of that Cha Siu seems a bit over priced.
The table is too close, and surranding was too noisy, wish can lower the voice of music, as we can’t control other people’s voice. Me & my friend have to foward a lot to talk, after 2 hours dining, we both lost our voice.
Great fusion Chinese food mix of northern and southern style. Great taste and presentation. Wait staff bought taste of infused gin as I was not sure of whether. I liked it. Smart. Ordered oolong infused gin cocktail. Appetizers were great. Waygu beef checks with watermelon in a 口水 spicy sauce was a great blend. The water melon cooled the numb and spicy sauce. Just the right amount of heat. Air dried duck with dried ginger on a nest of spun sugar was delicious. Just the right blend of crisp salty duck with a lasting umami highlighted with a piece of ginger and finishing with a small piece candy sugar. Wow. Just wished there was more ginger! Dish of clams with mixed peppercorn was light and delicious. Entrees of steamed black cod with black garlic, scallops topped with fried bait in a creamy spinach was tasty reflecting fresh seafood with a delicate hand in steaming and saucing. A surprise was the fried rice with 3 different rice and ancient grain with duck meat and duck fat. Not to be missed. A important note. This is one of a few restaurant in Hong Kong that offers a gluten free menu. Plus the food is excellent.
Excellent on the atmosphere and presentation of the dishes. However disappointing on the taste, didn’t live up to how they looked or the initial reviews I have heard. Wagyu with watermelon, good spicy sauce but the watermelon taste overpowers and steals the limelight from the wagyu. Spicy chicken cold appetizer (口水雞) this is the most disappointing dish for the night. Chicken meat blocks taste stale and totally not fresh. Glazed honey nest with duck slices - excellent presentation, enjoyed the contrast between the sweet and salty. Random ginger slices a good addition. Lamb rack - good Cotton candy rice in soup - I didn’t taste any scallop at all? Still a disappointment vs the expectation. Perhaps dim sum is more of your specialty. Washrooms for the female and male are not marked visibility, the M and W letters in green are blending well with the overal theme, not only me, I saw a few ladies have the same situation as I did, mistook the Male washroom main door for the second cubicle of the female washroom and were aiming straight for that, thankfully there is always a helpful staff or diner nearby.
Thank you amazing food
Desserts can be improved
The manager, named Antony, is very helpful and friendly. He made our dining experience unforgettably wonderful.
Food was great!!! Will definitely try the gin selections next time when I am not driving!
Nice Cantonese Fusion food! Like the part that chef Saito came to explain the dishes and nice service of course! Will def bring my frds again!
Great experience from start to finish
Excellent food beyond expectation. Nice decor perfect lighing but the whole room trapped the noises because they tried to fill it up with as much tables as possible. I would not recommend if you wanna chill out and chat with friends
It's kind of too noisy. The paste of the dam dam noodles are too watery.
