About Jacobs Plough
The dining room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner – rural British cuisine with fine wines and beer.
For a more laid back dining experience, have a seat in the bar, snug or on the terrace
Waitress service was good. But very very slow service from kitchen. Eton Mess was literally a 'mess'. Served in a cereal bowl. Just way too much cream, very little mango - maybe 1/4 of a mango, same of passionfruit, maybe less than a teaspoon and one tiny piece of meringue. However waitress did an excellent job, after explaining that you had chef problems, making a new one with a variety of fruit and a bit more meringue. Overall not value for money. My son thought waitress's uniform was slightly degrading - short top.
First time visit to the pub nice venue good food very good all round experience. Would highly recommend.
The decor of the restaurant was really nice and initially the staff were helpful, arranging for us to have an extra table to accommodate an extra guest. When we asked what beers you had the waitress didn't know, another (we had a few waitresses) didn't know what was in the 'special' sundae dessert for the day or whether there were nuts in some of the foods either. We asked for one of the beef roasts to be cooked more so it wasn't as pink and it was bought to us "extra pink as requested". We ordered a jug of water which didn't arrive. We ordered some Onget steaks and found you had run out and later ordered some creme brulees to find you only had one left. The food was nice enough but overpriced for the portion sizes. Overall it just seemed as though the staff need more training and the portions and prices could be adjusted.
Another excellent evening st Jacob’s plough. One star docked as no sherry or port in stock
Excellent service from Kerry. Bit disappointed there was no Pedro Ximenes or Grappa, as advertised, but full marks all the same.
Sunday roast was very average. Disappointing.
Had a lovely evening. Food was spot on and service was very friendly and swift! Will definitely be back.
Lovely meal with fab service from all staff , particularly Catherine though 😃 see you again soon . Katie
Nice as ever
A very pleasant lunch enjoyed the food.staff friendly and helpful.good value for money
Lovely meal - great food, great service. Will definitely be back!
Lovely food and a great evening!
We have eaten there 4 times and every time the food is lovely. They have different foods that you wouldn't normally eat, definitely worth a try.
Enjoyed a lovely Sunday Roast with family!
Yet another fantastic meal and lovely staff, we celebrated our 36 wedding anniversary and were treated as you would hope to be. See you soon.
Out of stock on selected real ales and ciders. Poor choice
Have been eating here since opening. Have always been Impressed by the food but we wondered if the chef has changed recently as our meals weren't up to the normal standard. Fries were a bit scant and on the plate opposed to in the little container which was a good touch. Salad very sparse. Just felt not quite up to expectation this time.
Lack of staff presence at times. Had to ask for serving cutlery. Missing items of meal (carrots and parsnips). Food good. Cheese and biscuits could have been better presented. Nice gesture of a free beer for dads but maybe a choice of free beer would have been nice. First time my 78 year old father had tried a Desperado! He also poured it into the water glass as not comfortable with drinking out of a bottle and was not offered a glass! It was not busy busy and it lacked the personal touch.
Brilliant family lunch, really enjoyed it. Staff are very friendly, great service.
Sadly the experience was not very enjoyable. It’s is a beautiful pub but serving very sad and disappointing chain-style food. The “crispy” duck salad was the highlight. The duck wasn’t crispy, more chewy, but tasty. But it sat on a very small sad salad. The papadelle with langustine and clams on a lobster bisque was tiny. The pasta was over cooked and tasted of very little. The shellfish and clams were few and very over cooked. The nicest bit was the bisque, but I had to ask for a spoon to eat it. The hamburger was chewy, dry and the relish didn’t really taste of anything. I had the blue cheese to finish. That was very nice and not charged for. Not sure why. The waitress said that it was because the pasta had been such a small portion. I had made no compliant so they must have realised when they were serving it. Which begs the question why they gave it to me in the first place. The staff were very polite, but what was missing was a chef that actually loved food and cared about what left the kitchen. We could hear him swearing and messing around at the end of service. That wouldn’t have been a problem had the food been worth eating. But it wasn’t.
Great pub really unusual and eclectic. The food was fresh and delicious and good value for money. Love the beer garden! Would highly recommend
Great service, food & drink, had a really good evening. Will definitely recommend the Plough.
