About Jacobs Plough
The dining room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner – rural British cuisine with fine wines and beer.
For a more laid back dining experience, have a seat in the bar, snug or on the terrace
I have been coming here since it opened, bringing friends, family and clients and never had a bad meal or bad service, but that all changed on 31/10 . I booked a table 2 days beforehand for myself and my wife, we arrived and ordered a drink at the bar only to be told the lager I ordered wasn't available as the barrel had run out and there wasn't any more, that's fine I ordered something else.We were shown to our table and were told it was a limited menu, we were handed an A4 sheet with a choice of sandwiches, 1 starter and around 5 main courses, disappointed as I would normally have a steak but that wasn't an option, so both my wife and I said we would have a burger, a few minutes later the waitress returned to say they didn't have any chips! At this point it was going to be an impossible meal so i paid for our drinks and we left. I don't understand how it's possible to run out of chips when sainsbury's is a 5 minute walk away! Clearly i will be very reluctant to bring anyone here for a meal now incase this happens again. So disappointed
The staff were friendly and efficient. The food absolutely delicious with a wide range of Sunday lunch and dessert options and a great selection of gins!
Very busy, but can understand why, the food was delicious. The reason for the 4 and not 5 star, was that the wine wanted had sold out and was sat in the corner. We was advised it was because it was so busy, but I had pre booked a week before.
Excellent Sunday lunch, staff very attentive despite being very busy in the dining room
Great pub with great friendly staff
Service was a little slow, however it was busy and it was our young waitresses first Sunday so I think she was a little overwhelmed. We were given a reduction on the bill for the wait which was a nice gesture but we weren't bothered by the waiting to be honest. Would definitely go again and again.
Plentiful tasty food with attentive and friendly staff.
We went to the restaurant on Sunday, I booked the table in advance, when we got there our table not ready so we have waited almost 25 minute to get seated very slow service especially we booked the table in advance.
Great service and great food as per previous visits.
Lovely food, fantastic service & very good value for money.
Lovely meal, great staff and atmosphere
Perfect Sunday lunch! Thank you
Great food and friendly service.
Great food and best Sunday lunch around
Unfortunately my daughter had to wait for a side order of chips for far too long, we had to remind the waiter that she was still waiting, by which time she had nearly finished the rest of her meal. We were the only people in the restaurant so can’t attribute it to being busy, especially when we noticed the chef in the bar playing on a computer!!
Service was very slow and restaurant very noisy. Food good as were the drinks.
Lovely meal out for my wife’s birthday with great service
The staff on duty on Sunday could not have been more helpful and respectful of the elderly guests who joined us for lunch. Both guests were in wheelchairs and needed some help with accessing the table and toilets, with which the staff were only to happy to help. Thank you so much!
Lovely venue , lovely food , fantastic staff thank you
Very nice, freshly cooked food at a reasonable price. Service was a bit hit and miss, Saturday lunchtime and there was only us eating so lacked some atmosphere
Shocking poor meal. Dirty cutlery, chicken akin to cardboard, mash potato with hard lumps in, corn the cob over cooked etc etc. A thoroughly poor experience that is now becoming common place at the Jacobs establishments. Standards have dropped significantly.
We waited almost an hour for our brunch when we were the only people in the restaurant. When some of the food finally arrived it was either cold or had clearly been under heat lamps for quite some time. Most of it was inedible and some of the food never arrived.
Our food took a while to arrive. When it did, one of our meals was incorrect and was sent back to the kitchen. The rest of us had finished our meals and been sitting for some time before the final meal arrived. We had watched 2-3 of the final meal be put out to other diners before ours arrived.
What a delight Jacob’s Plough is, especially the staff and manager. We had a lovely family meal from a great menu with great service in a lovely surrounding and atmosphere. Five star service, five star people.
