About Island Street Bar & Grill
Established in March 2010, Island Street Bar and Grill has become the place to be in Salcombe to meet with friends and family for good times. Halfway along Island Street with a terrace hanging over the water’s edge it’s the perfect place to sit and chill.
Despite the current restrictions, Bar and Grill team were very efficient and helpful. Food was great, as usual. We will be back. Thank you
Need to be able to run a tab when eating, bit of a pain and much more contact when you have to pay for every drink as you order whilst in the middle of your meal. Toilet being locked is also not necessary, so what if someone comes in off the street it is no different to local public toilets which are open to all. Mushroom starter fabulous and burgers very good.
Felt very comfortable and safe and enjoyed our meals and that’s why we visited twice.
As always, even under these strange times, we had a great time, with great food, and superb service. Thanks to everyone at Island Street.
All great but the WiFi wouldn’t work so we had to give the order to the waitress.
Staff very smiley and friendly, good service time wise, food average to good. Not much atmosphere due to social distancing, some music would help
Atmosphere rating not your fault, blame it on ‘Rona
The food was lovely but not the service! I understand times are hard at the moment but we had no attention from any staff member, no check on any of the food we ordered. We sat without a drink for a while with staff just walking back and forth, trying to grab someone as they walked past. The site online wasn’t working so we were unable to order or pay, we had our booking at 8pm and didn’t have an order taken until 8:45. Quite expensive for what we actually got for food but was enjoyable and lovely just the service let it down completely. I have come here many of times and had amazing service and food but this time wasn’t the best and I don’t think I would be going back in a rush to be honest.
Never waited, food was spot on and service was brilliant, see you again soon
Good as ever
Superb job on the COVID adaptations, good luck!
Had a lovely time here the other day, drinks and food were top notch. The outdoor seating was lovely especially with the sun hitting it. A little expensive but what else do you expect in Salcombe, compared to some of the other local restaurants I think it gives good value.
My experience was really sub-standard and I will not visit this establishment again. This is a real shame, as I have been a patron of the Winking Prawn for over 20 years (back when it was a simple Beach Hut and served me the finest Scallops I have ever had). My comments are as follows: The Covid-19 measures were needlessly complex and confusing - not everyone uses an i-phone and paypal. The atmosphere was clinical and COLD, literally, after the sun had set the doors to the balcony were left open and we were literally freezing. I ordered the 1/2 Lobster, one of the more expensive menu options, and what was delivered was a tiny little thing and the meat was no more than a single Langoustine. Furthermore, little meat on the animal was "fluffy", with a sour taste - indicating that it had died prior to being cooked, with lactic acid leeching into the meat. The serving staff seemed to know little about how to cook & prepare seafood and I was offered a "starter" portion of pork ribs to make up the meat short-fall. These were slimy and covered in a disappointing tangy sauce. I was extremely disappointed, especially as my partner & I had eaten a fantastic Lunch at the Winking Prawn on North Sands that very day that was simply sublime. My recommendation is to avoid this establishment at all costs.
Hi Timothy, Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, I am sorry it was disappointing. Firstly, I would like to clarify that the week in which you visited was the first week in which we had opened following lockdown, during which we were implementing covid measures for the first time, and inevitably it does take some getting used to. The doors are kept open to improve ventilation in line with this and we have actually had a lot of positive feedback about the processes we have put in place, so I am sorry you found them to inhibit your experience. Regarding your food - our seafood is caught and landed across the water from us daily and goes into the ovens live. The daily arrival of the seafood may account for the size, and while I realise the pork starter substitute is not the same, my understanding is that you accepted this happily when you were in the restaurant and that you didn't mention any issue with them at the time, otherwise we could have sought a resolution then and there. Regarding the smartphone payment system, we have put this in place to help minimise contact. However, we could take a credit card if it was not possible to pay online - you only needed to ask. Overall, I am sorry that you didn't enjoy your experience with us as we always want everyone to have a wonderful time. I hope you will understand that this way of working is new and is taking a little getting used to but we are trying our best. I am glad you had a lovely meal at the Winking Prawn however, they will be thrilled to hear it. Best wishes
Lovely place to eat and Spend time. We will definitely come back here. Great shrimp!
Really disappointed that the ‘winter’ menu was not being served in Feb, which is clearly winter. Quiet but that’s expected in off season. Good cocktails and good value.
We were a very mixed age group of 11 , a few found the menu ( very small print) hard to read in the very low light, (but this provided atmosphere).
Great food good service lovely menu Thanks for a great night
Good food and service
Really disappointed. I ordered sea bream with vegetables and new potatoes. The sea bream was delicious, very well cooked. However the potatoes were over cooked and I was served a salad, not the vegetables I had ordered. My husband ordered ribs with sweet potato fries and a salad. His didn't even come with the salad! All in all, not impressed. There were only 3 tables occupied, therefore no excuses for making errors like that.
Hi Rachel, I am so sorry you had such a disappointing experience. Let me speak to the team and I will find out what happened
Great food as always
Lovely staff and food will be back
The food was great but the service was awful - the three girls working were nice but not at all on top of keeping track of waiting on the tables (clearing plates, taking new orders for drinks, giving us the bill). Such as shame as everything else was great.
Hi Caroline, I am so pleased you enjoyed the food but apologise that the service wasn't as it should have been. I will discuss your comments with the team. Best wishes
We had a wonderful evening, although unfortunately I had food poisoning following our meal. Other than that service was exceptional.
Food was lovely. Drinks took a very long time to come - actually slower than the food. No one asked if we’d like another drink. Pity as it wasn’t that busy.
