About Irvin Bar Grill
Welcome to our family run cosy restaurant in Crouch End. Our menu is a happy mix of Italian cuisine and Scottish produce expertly cooked in a contemporary, relaxed style. Our small & larger plates can be eaten as a traditional three course menu or “tapas” style, as the fancy takes you.
We aim to cook within season & we treat produce with respect, keeping our dishes simple & beautiful. Our wines are Italian, from small growers, chosen carefully for quality and variety. We serve by the glass, caraffe of bottle. Start with a lively aperitivo from the cocktail menu and finish with a dash of vim from our nicely rounded whisky list, perfect with a slab of Scottish tablet.
Eat & drink at a table in the dining room or at the comfy bar.
Irwin is that rare place that is equally good as a special occasion destination and a place where you can be assured of a series of tasty dishes served up quickly before the cinema at good value. Highly recommend.
Lovely service and great food.
Delicious as always. Highly recommended. A hidden gem in crouch end.
The only 'but' for everyone is that we were not asked if we wanted big or small portions for the pasta and risotto, but everything was lovely.
I've been here a few times now and have always had a great time. The staff are friendly, there's a good atmosphere and the food and wine are delicious. Highly recommended.
An absolute treat! Beautiful food and fantastic service with a great atmosphere. What more is there? A great night!!
Fantastic atmosphere, food and service. Will definitely be back!
Delicious meal, lovely atmosphere
Had some great meals here over the years - but this was not one of them. Struggled to get served throughout the meal, though the service was certainly friendly. The bread and whipped butter was delicious and the nocellara olives were very good as well. The octopus was good but the pasta fritta it came with was very stodgy. The risotto was glutinous and did not taste nice and the roast cabbage was a strange and not very attractive dish. Overall it was disappointing on the food front and was quite expensive to boot, coming in at about £80, even though we shared starters and did not order the more expensive dishes. The wine list and list by the glass is excellent.
Everything was great. Highly recommended.
Wonderful food and thank you for looking after us so well. You helped us introduce our children to properly good food!
Best atmosphere as usual. Wish the menu started to vary a little. But we’ll keep coming back anyhow :)
Couldn’t really fault the food. All cooked fresh with bags of flavours-probably the best roast potatoes (along with an onglet which was cooked to perfection) I’ve ever had and the tomato bruschetta was mouth watering!
The starters and drinks were exceptional, which left a lot for the mains to live up to. Unfortunately, both mains were adequate, but not great. I'd go back for sure, but not for the main dishes.
First time. But as a local, we will be back a lot!
The food was very good but we sat down at 8.15 and got served our main courses at 10.30. Far too late with the result that we drank too much while waiting and spend far too much. Also when enquiries about where was our food some of the stuff was very unhelpful and did not even bother going to ask in the kitchen or coming back to us
Food is delicious and service is great. Portions are small and can thus make things seem a bit less value for money.
Sometimes the food is fabulous, sometimes it’s ordinary. The staff are personable but increasingly inattentivethroughout the evening. Shame because it could be the best restaurant in Crouch End.
This was our first visit to Irvin and we will definitely be returning! Some unusual Scottish/ Italian combinations proved surprisingly successful (my husband loved his haggis arancini) and it was clear that a lot of thought had gone into the selection of high quality ingredients. I particularly enjoyed the home made ricotta (with heritage tomatoes, still flavourful despite the time of year) and my onglet was outstanding; cut into juicy strips, perfectly cooked with a lovely chargrilled flavour. We had a fresh, smooth, blackberry-flavoured Nero d’Avola to accompany our food and ended our meal with a delicious Sicilian dessert wine. A lively atmosphere in the small, busy space made for a cosy escape from the wet autumn night. My husband’s only complaint: paper napkins!
A delightful evening and our baby was well looked after too. Fab it is a local, venison tartare was superb.
We had a very enjoyable evening, the food was good as was the service
Amazing amazing amazing. Will be coming back again very soon
The food was excellent - but a tad pricy for the portion sizes. We had the house wine which was very good. Good service and pleasant atmosphere.
