About IL Vicolo
Il Vicolo first opened its doors up a cafe & wine bar on buttermilk walk mid October 2011. Serving minestrone, bruschetta by day & Italian cheese, charcutterie and a nightly changing menu offering seasonal pastas, risotto & rustic delights. Also stocking Prosecco, Aperol & Campari and 50 Italian wines!
With only 24 seats and 20 by the glass, it defied logic. Passion, heart and soul all mixed together offering rustic Italian fare, with a strong southern influence. It worked and we spent two and a half happy years on the edge of St Augustine Street before moving to our current location on the banks of the river Corrib, in the basement of the Bridgemills building.
Our menu today has evolved into a contemporary Italian kitchen with a mix of seasonal Cicchetti, pastas, risotto, fish and meat. Our wine list is 100% Italian and now boasts over 75 wines spanning from the north tip of Alto Adige to the boot of Puglia and the island of Sicily.
We are passionate about everything Italian and use the best of Irish produce, local producers and the best exports the Italian peninsula has to offer. With live jazz every Sunday and the trickle of the river Corrib while you eat in the wonderful surroundings of the old flour mill, il Vicolo offers you a unique experience to enjoy the best Italy has to offer on the Wild Atlantic way.
Very good food . Nice service.
Very lovley and delicious. Perfect
It’s a shame we don’t live in Galway because this restaurant would have become a favorite instantly. The service was attentive and you can see the staff are passionate about their work. The food was out of this world and the decor was enchanting... like you were having diner in a classy wine cellar.
Amazing food and staff....truly the atmosphere is wonderful here!
We had some friends who stopped over in Galway and took them to our favorite place in Galway. They were also highly impressed one of the great restaurants in Galway.
We live in St. Louis where they have the best Italian food in the country. Il Vicola has them beat. Every morel was delicious. The service was great.
In questo paradiso culinario troverete Qualità e Professionalità!

Really enjoyed this place
Great food, atmosphere and service. We’ll definitely be back!
Setting is stunning and food delicious. One of my favourites in galway
The restaurant is fantastic. We were seated at, what the waiter called, the best seat in the house and we weren’t disappointed. Our seats were overlooking the stream under the restaurant which was amazing. The food here is absolutely fantastic. I had messaged the restaurant prior when booking explaining it was a special occasion and anything they could do the enhance my fiancé’s birthday would be much appreciated. When we received a glass of Prosecco on arrival I was thinking it was so nice. However then I was charged €15 for this when paying the bill and had I known this prior I would have just ordered a bottle for us rather than it being presented as on the house and then charged. That disappointed me a bit tbh. Even when we ordered desert there was no happy birthday plate or anything. The host came down and wished my fiancé happy birthday at the start which was it. The restaurant, food, space etc are amazing. Anything extra to enhance a special occasion there’s nothing on the house which was disappointing.
Sensationelle Atmosphäre, super Essen.
Fantastic dinner !
Very good food. Everything was delicious. Great that you can book online. The restaurant was a bit crowded and too warm for us but that's probably just the time of year. Our server never brought us our drinks after we asked for them twice :( Service could use work. Could benefit from having servers assigned to sections. We were served by about 4/5 different people. Would try it again perhaps in the off season.
Enjoyed the burrata very much but would prefer the balsamic reduction to be on the side rather than poured over the burrata.. The rich tomato sauce with the Pappardelle we felt was very acidic. Lugana white wine was excellent. We had a beautiful indoor table overlooking the water.
Great food... Great service ... Great value... Great venue
