About IL Vicolo
Il Vicolo first opened its doors up a cafe & wine bar on buttermilk walk mid October 2011. Serving minestrone, bruschetta by day & Italian cheese, charcutterie and a nightly changing menu offering seasonal pastas, risotto & rustic delights. Also stocking Prosecco, Aperol & Campari and 50 Italian wines!
With only 24 seats and 20 by the glass, it defied logic. Passion, heart and soul all mixed together offering rustic Italian fare, with a strong southern influence. It worked and we spent two and a half happy years on the edge of St Augustine Street before moving to our current location on the banks of the river Corrib, in the basement of the Bridgemills building.
Our menu today has evolved into a contemporary Italian kitchen with a mix of seasonal Cicchetti, pastas, risotto, fish and meat. Our wine list is 100% Italian and now boasts over 75 wines spanning from the north tip of Alto Adige to the boot of Puglia and the island of Sicily.
We are passionate about everything Italian and use the best of Irish produce, local producers and the best exports the Italian peninsula has to offer. With live jazz every Sunday and the trickle of the river Corrib while you eat in the wonderful surroundings of the old flour mill, il Vicolo offers you a unique experience to enjoy the best Italy has to offer on the Wild Atlantic way.
The atmosphere and food are amazing but it's the service that is keeps us coming back. One of my favourite restaurants in Galway.
always an enjoyment, great atmosphere and wine!
The atmosphere, food and wine was excellent. What really makes Il Vicolo special is the quality of service from the moment that you walk in the door to the time you leave. Simply excellent !
Disappointed with main courses.
Really lovely wine and food and excellent service. Will be back again!!!
Il Vicolo is a treasure, regional Italian true to the original. And an outstanding wine list.
Service was excellent, I cannot fault it. Our waitress was exceedingly helpful with menu and wine selections. We had a lovely bottle of wine at her recommendation, had the meatballs to share as a starter which were excellent. For main courses we had the pork cheek carbonara and the 9oz striploin steak. The carbonara was nice, but not exceptional when factoring in the price. The only real disappointment was the steak, the quality of the steak was poor. I get meat from Collerans butchers myself so I am unsure about what happened. Another table near us also complained about their steaks. To the credit of the manager, she took the feedback of the steak on board and offered to refund the dish. I thought that was too much, instead and we had 2 complimentary desserts that were excellent, the tiramisu and a chocolate dish that I can't recall the name of. Overall I would be deterred from coming back again, the restaurant charges a premium for it's excellent location, setting and atmosphere. All things that it excels in, but the main courses were a let down.
Apart from dessert food in my option was poor
The waitress seemed a bit put out and moody and the woman at the till didn’t smile. I am not sure why this was. But it didn’t have a friendly atmosphere. Any friendliness seemed forced.
Brilliant atmosphere, fabulous service and delicious food! One of the best meals I’ve ever had!
Best meal I have had in a long time. Excellent restaurant.
Fab food, great service amd lovely atmosphere and made to feel really welcome even with our baby and buggy 😁
Not only the best food of our visit to Ireland but also the most charming. The cozy yet fresh and light aesthetics paired with the warm and friendly servers made this spot our hands down favorite. Truly memorable!
Mandy was lovely to deal with and the staff were so friendly and warm.
4 star for service as there did not seem enough staff and we were left waiting to order. However once we had him he was great. Risotto was fabulous but I wasn't full After it. Steak was expensive. Love il vicolo but unfortunately I've heard a few negative things about the service and higher price point so they wouldn't choose it. A little bit extra on the above would make it the perfect dinner choice.
Very nice meal, in a lovely setting
Posto molto accogliente e qualità del cibo e del vino molto buona. Servizio cortese e preciso
Friendly, attentive service, we lingered over an extra glass of wine. Wine is pricey enough. Lovely, lively atmosphere, but not too loud and conversation was comfortable. Linguine was very tasty, we found the verdure slightly on the salty side. Cheese board was a lovely treat, with just the right amuont of everything, and a good variety of flavours. We’ll be back!
Food always fantastic and friendly service. My only gripe is the cost of the wine by the glass. Nearly as expensive as the food.
Fabulous meal, table for two , very near to large group who were quite loud, minor quibble, overall experience was excellent Maybe have some alternatives to Italian wine -although the Pinot Gregor that we had was very good and reasonably priced
Wonderful atmosphere, delicious food!
