About IL Vicolo
Il Vicolo first opened its doors up a cafe & wine bar on buttermilk walk mid October 2011. Serving minestrone, bruschetta by day & Italian cheese, charcutterie and a nightly changing menu offering seasonal pastas, risotto & rustic delights. Also stocking Prosecco, Aperol & Campari and 50 Italian wines!
With only 24 seats and 20 by the glass, it defied logic. Passion, heart and soul all mixed together offering rustic Italian fare, with a strong southern influence. It worked and we spent two and a half happy years on the edge of St Augustine Street before moving to our current location on the banks of the river Corrib, in the basement of the Bridgemills building.
Our menu today has evolved into a contemporary Italian kitchen with a mix of seasonal Cicchetti, pastas, risotto, fish and meat. Our wine list is 100% Italian and now boasts over 75 wines spanning from the north tip of Alto Adige to the boot of Puglia and the island of Sicily.
We are passionate about everything Italian and use the best of Irish produce, local producers and the best exports the Italian peninsula has to offer. With live jazz every Sunday and the trickle of the river Corrib while you eat in the wonderful surroundings of the old flour mill, il Vicolo offers you a unique experience to enjoy the best Italy has to offer on the Wild Atlantic way.
Food was lovely
Best meal I have ever had in a restaurant cooked to perfection still thinking about the food . Amazing
Had a wonderful birthday meal here, food was amazing and the atmosphere was very relaxed, will definitely be returning!
Booked for myself and my girlfriend for our anniversary to come to this restaurant. Booked for 20.30, table wasn’t ready till 21.10. Ordered food and my girlfriend wanted the Ravioli as a main (the waitress said this would cost double, so she just ordered the starter) she requested no nuts on the meal. She also asked for Bruschetta for starter between us. The food arrived and the bruschetta is covered in pesto (with nuts) and she began to eat her ravioli which she noticed after eating about 3 bites that there was nuts on it, she is extremely allergic to nuts and went to the bathroom immediately to get sick. I mentioned this to the waitress that we said she said no nuts and the waitress replied ‘You should have told me there’s an allergy’ great unprofessional response as excepted
Seating position want great as too close to table beside us. Be good to have more options with sides, perhaps with less garlic.
Great experience and would love to try again.
Staff were incredibly helpful and the food was made to order which was amazing as I was dining with someone with various allergies
Lovely staff, very good cuisine, beautiful setting and an excellent place to have a family meal on New Year's Eve. The only complaint was having Electronic Dance Music on relatively noisy speakers above our head at 5/6pm which wasn't suitable for the setting nor clientele (mainly families with a few older people, including at our table). It just seemed incongruous with the ambience. We've never before tried to dictate the music setting to restaurant staff but we asked them to reduce the noise or kindly change the music which they helpfully did. Innocuous jazz trumps repetitive beats. We could have dealt with Orbital or Leftfield but mediocre generic stuff is just not our thing. Otherwise we would thoroughly recommend the restaurant and setting.
Beautiful meal with friends on NYE! Looking forward to returning again soon.
Very nice setting on the shores of the Corrib River. Very unique warm interior.
We had lunch on the day after our wedding for a large group. From the moment we entered the staff were fantastic and accommodated us in a beautiful bar for drinks while we awaited everyone arriving. Also the chocolate espresso martini was to die for. The scenery is absolutely stunning. When our food arrived it was delicious and abundent. No request was too much. Cannot praise it enough and can't wait to return.
Everything was AMAZING xx
A definition of what an Italian restaurant should be in a beautiful location and a nice outdoor area with a view of the river. Highly recommended for special dinners, anniversaries and date nights. Food is extremely well made and beautifully presented, staff are extremely passionate, helpful and friendly. It is a bit pricy though so make sure to be ready for a 100+ Euros cheque.
Lovely resturant beautiful atmosphere . Amazing cheese....
