Set in one of the most unique dining spaces in North Yorkshire, the Huntsmans lodge offers a breath taking setting for morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. With the magnificent fireplace at its heart, and the stunning views of the lake, there is really no better place to relax and unwind whilst at Coniston.
On fine days, our outside terrace offers unrivalled views of Malhamdale and the surrounding countryside, the perfect place to enjoy a chilled bottle of champagne and enjoy some “field food” (our take on Yorkshire tapas).
The food offering is simple yet enjoyable; think home comforts, great local Yorkshire steaks, fresh fish delivered daily and an award winning afternoon tea, our food in Huntsman is relaxed and informal yet served with flair and passion by our long standing team.
Whether it’s coffee and cake with friends, an important business lunch or a family celebration, you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking sights and elegance as you walk into the exquisite new Huntsman’s Lodge.
It's centrepiece, a roaring open fire, draws you in before your attention turns to the glass wall, with the sun terrace looking over the 24-acre lake and far-reaching views of The Dales.

We have been to Coniston Hall for a meal at the Huntsman Lodge many times. We have been twice recently and brought friends who have never been before. All of them loved the whole experience. From a walk around the scenic grounds, some bargains in the shop, followed by a delicious meal served by warm, friendly, courteous staff, the whole time was a delightful. We will be back!! The only negative point I can make is that although I booked in advance, the waiter could find no record of our booking. Luckily there was a table available so no harm done. Maybe a problem with the booking system??
We had a really lovely time sitting outside in the sunshine enjoying our beautiful afternoon tea with a wonderful view
The restaurant staff are amazing, very very polite and helpful
Superb Sunday lunch in beautiful surroundings and looked after by attentive staff - probably the best roast Beef in Yorkshire!
Friendly efficient staff nothing too much trouble! Highly recommended.
Pleasant meal. Blessed without piped music
Very disappointed with menu. My friend and I decided to only have sandwiches. My ham sandwich arrived with no mustard mayonnaise. Had to request it. Very poor garnish and not as it used to be. We shared portion of chips but it seems you have cut down on quantity as they arrived in a small enamel container! Asked for a scone with jam which arrived but no jam! My friend ordered black coffee but when it arrived it came with a jug of milk and the cup was only half full of coffee and this was only lukewarm as was my flat white. We used to be regular customers at Coniston but after yesterday's visit it may be some time before we return.
Great food in a spectacular setting with amazing views. Quality and variety of food has been maintained during our many visits. Great discount if staying in a luxury room. Highly recommended as a treat or for any special celebration, but also great for a relaxed lunch or dinner. Highly recommend.
I ordered Caesar salad as a main and it was over priced. They said I could have a starter as a main and it cost £16 !!! For a bit of salad with a few slices of chicken !! The rest of the group enjoyed their meals.
Fabulous as always x
Fantastic service. Right blend of attentive service and leaving you alone to enjoy your meal. Quality food arrived promptly.
We both really enjoyed our meal and it was served in a timely fashion. I did find the prices over-priced. My husband the pork and it was a very small meal for the price that was charged. Service was quick and friendly.
Could do better at resolving problem with issue around wine (debris in glass)
Keep going back to the Coniston and as ever does not disappoint. Lovely meal in a great dining space, will be back in the near future
We have been to Coniston for several years now and always come back again. However on our last visit - whilst the food was great (as usual), the menu at the Huntsman was verging on modern imagery or style rather than the traditional (which we tend to prefer). Quality, service and comfort - well up to it's usual standards. Will we come back? - Of course but in the hope that tradition gains.
This was our second evening at th Coniston Hotel, after a relaxing day at the Spa we decided to dine at The Huntsman's Lodge. The atmosphere is calming, beautiful views out to the Lake coupled with a open log fire (which was lit) make for a lovely evening, the staff are polite, attentive and greet you personally upon arrival. We settled in with our drinks order been taken, I opted for the Rioja Crianza and my partner the Pinot Grigio and ordered the burgers. The food is beautiful, cooked fresh to order, tasty and well presented. We can fault anything.
A truly fantastic experience all staff so helpfully and pleasant..food excellent...Will certainly recommend
We enjoyed our meal overall but a few points which were a bit disappointing. Our bread starter was actually toast which was a strange thing to have. There didn't seem much for 2 people either and took a while to be brought to the table after ordering. The burger and chips was nice and a good sized portion. However the seabass and crushed potato was almost starter size in comparison so was dissapointed. We both had sticky toffee pudding which had been warm but was cold by the time we were served it. The waitresses were all very efficient and helpful but seems kitchen let them down.it won't stop us coming again but important to share for your improvement. Thank you
Very pleased . Thank you for making our celebration memorable.
We had the sharing platter for starters and we werent very impressed with it but the mains were fantastic!. The fish pie was beautiful. The service could have been better due to a member of staff insisting we hadnt got enough drinks showing on our bill!. Even though we had bought the drinks separately. She then stared at us in a disapproving manner for the rest of the evening!. Which didnt make us feel very welcome!.
We stayed Friday night on the spring break package and had afternoon tea on the Friday. It was delicious though last time we came we had 1 big spring roll as opposed to 2 small ones and the large one was better. Went to spa after which was really lovely and relaxing and had a lovely evening in the hotel. Breakfast next day was lovely though poached eggs were overdone and no beans with Yorkshire full English! I had haddock which was a very generous portion and if eggs had been runny would have been perfect! Overall a fantastic time had by us all and your staff are a credit to you as all could Not do enough for us. Will definitely be back!
My wife had fush and chips which were very poor, very thin piece of haddock with a soft batter, chips were bland and peas were dry. I had the fish pie which was better but not as expected with it being presented as a fish mix with a separate potato topping. We did not enjoy the meal.
Excellent all round experience, lovely food, attentive staff and beautiful setting
All of the staff were very friendly, helpful and smiley!
Enjoyable Sunday lunch with the family. The staff are always friendly and helpful.
