About Howies Victoria Street
Located in the city’s historic Old Town, Howies Victoria Street is carved out of rock that Edinburgh Castle perches on above. Paired back stone walls, wooden floors and an eclectic mix of Scottish art marry marvellously with the historic surroundings.
Open seven days a week, our chefs celebrate all that is great about Scottish produce. When it comes to our drinks, much research – and plenty tastings – go into the incredible menu which boasts over 20 wines by the glass, a fantastic range of Scottish craft beer as well as whiskies and gins from all over Scotland.
On Victoria Street itself you’ll find some fantastic bars and shops, including Walker Slater, The Whisky Shop and Isle of Skye Candle Co. Look up from Howies and you’ll see our sister restaurant Scotts Kitchen which is open daily from 9am for all day dining and drinks (and the perfect spot for a drink before lunch or dinner at Howies).
The staff were very warm and hospitable.
Excellent service, they had run out of rhubarb pudding and we made another choice. Low and behold they found another rhubarb serving and made the recipient very very happy.
All was perfect, we enjoyed the moment all of us and will come back for sure !!
Excellent food and service . We added a tip but money was refunded to us as the service charge was already included . So honest of them . Just added to the great overall experience we had there for our family reunion .
First visit to howies Victoria street. Warm welcome delicious 2 course lunch in comfortable surroundings. Will be back again very soon.
Food was great but not paced out over time. Main dishes came too quickly before finished with starters (bread, olives and tapenade). Loved the desserts (banofee pie and sticky toffee pudding). Our server (Liga) was very nice and friendly. It seemed like she was covering the jobs of many people and servicing many tables. Other servers seemed not so busy. Overall a nice meal but atmosphere is lacking because the tables are so close together and it felt rushed, crowded and noisy.
As always excellent especially banter with staff
Lovely staff, couldn’t have been more helpful to make my mums birthday special
Great location & great good!
Very enjoyable meal and excellent service. If you need a tasty meal in relaxing surroundings, look no further.
Excellent service, staff were very knowledgable and helpful, made us feel very welcome as soon as we arrived Food was delicious and very reasonably priced Loved it! Thanks for having us
Very busy evening after Scotland/Wales rugby match, the place was full and buzzing and the staff coped brilliantly. Very cheerful and helpful.
Third visit and sadly the most disappointing. Totally understand that the rugby was on but it’s not an excuse for squeezing in an extra table to make more profit. I was hit multiple times by other diners and waiters passing by where I was sitting in what should have been a walkway for waiters and patrons. This completely ruined my night. Lowest point being hit in the back of the head by an oversized handbag whilst trying to eat my main course. Followed by £30 a bottle for the most palette stripping Rjoja I’ve ever drank. The food however was excellent as always as was the service. Sadly I couldn’t wait for the meal to be over this time. Won’t be planning another visit here next time we are in Edinburgh unfortunately.
Really impressed by place, service and food.
Everything was very bland. My mother who never puts salt on anything had to put salt and pepper on everything she ate. Cullen skink has only potato in it, no fish. My haggis was the least spiced haggis ever, I know some people don't like it spicy but this was insipid. Mum had the hake main course. Potato was nice. I had the chicken which was okay. Best thing was the home made bread. £75.02 down the drain.
First time we have been to Howies and certainly won't be our last. Fantastic food, very professional and friendly staff and great value for money, left feeling very satisfied. Hope to be back real soon.
Great atmosphere with friendly professional team serving great food from a well balanced menu.
Came here after a friends recommendation and it did not disappoint. The food was fantastic. The service was great. Wouldn't hesitate to return.
A lovely evening, with great food, wine and service (and company, of course !). And a very cool location too - highly recommended !
Even though we were clearly told that our table needed to be vacated by 7:30 we felt rushed at every turn. We had barely sat down when we were 'attended to.' In fact we were constantly over attended to throughout. We were given the bill prematurely and a waiter arrived with the card machine even before we had had chance to look at the bill. At this point it was only about 6:40 so there was no reason to be harassing us. We will not be rushing back.
Again after several visits. the food quality was delicious and great value! Also service by all 5star! Friendly courteous and wonderful atmosphere. Thank you Ann W
The whole experience from beginning to end was very pleasant and welcoming. All the staff were very nice, helpful and knew what they were talking about. The portion sizes of what I ordered were perfect and were worth the money. 100% would recommend and I will be visiting again soon.
Lovely welcome, great chat and lovely food again, thanks. Only thing, our newly vegan son was a bit stumped for choice, but he was only vegetarian when we booked the table! Kent is a bit of a commute, but we come whenever we visit Edinburgh.
Had a lovely meal. Staff friendly and helpful
