About Howies Victoria Street
Housed in a 600-year old building, Howies Victoria lies in the heart of Edinburgh’s medieval Old Town. Just a short walk from The Royal Mile and The Grassmarket, Howies Victoria is the perfect spot for lunch or dinner.
Had a wonderful meal on Saturday night. Good and service was faultless. It was my second visit in a week and we’ll be back. Thank You for looking after us do well on such a busy evening.
My family and I really enjoyed our meal at Howie's on Victoria St in Edinburgh during the busy month of August.
Great place for a meal whether it’s for lunch or dinner
Drinks being replaced was slow , no milk delivered with the coffees and one of the coffees was missed out !
We have visited Howies many times and we always enjoy the experience.
Have eaten here a couple of times now and everything was excellent both times.
A little noisy at times to hold conversation. Food very good and great value for money. Enjoyed our visit and will return soon.
Extremely busy as it was Festival. Staff, though remained cheerful - and the cooking was superb. We were recommended by the staff at Mackenzie Leather and were not disappointed. I'll post a longer review on Tripadvisor
Lovely place. Would recommend.
Nice restaurant with good food and service.
During the fringe festival we always come here a few times every year and always comment on how friendly the staff are but this year the atmosphere did not feel as relaxed as it usually does. Our waitress didn't really interact or smile when serving us - seemed rushed. Food still excellent ..
We came during the fringe having pre-booked a table. We ordered our meal and drinks together. Our starter came - no drink. We then got our sparkling water. Not five minutes later our mains arrived even before we had finished our starter! We then asked where our drinks were? Cocktails and wine all came together Which wasn’t really the idea. I did feel the food was rushed to obviously make way for more customers which I understand to some extent. However the food was amazing and so were the drinks. A great place just feel maybe the one waitress on our section was not enough in this busy time. I would recommend Howies though even after saying that as feel this is probably not the norm.
ANOTHER LOVELY LUNCH. SERVICE AND FOOD FIRST CLASS.
Having visited Howie’s many times over a number of years, this visit is the first time I have been disappointed with the food. My main was the casserole of the day, very thin and watery and lacking in any flavour, the meat although tender was reddish/pink in colour and not like the consistency of beef. I wasn’t convinced that it was actually beef. The dessert of strawberries and ice-cream was very poorly presented and consisted of some chopped strawberries served in a shallow soup plate with one single scoop of ice-cream. However, this seems to be the norm these days in Edinburgh during the Festival and around Christmas time. Have not previously experienced this slip in food quality at Howies. Didn’t complain and hope this is a one off, would be a shame if this is the way the restaurant is going.
Nice food. If anything, portion sizes a bit small. Staff attentive and service slick,
Really enjoyable evening with a large group of people 8 in total! Really helpful and informed staff with great recommendations! Will definitely visit again!
We were SO impressed with the quality of service and food, even in light of the very busy restaurant at this time of the year. You are all to be congratulated on a fantastic customer experience - well done!
It’s always nice to be in this busy restaurant where everyone is having a lovely time. The open door allowed us to see the festival fun passing outside. Inside, delicious plates of food were being delivered effortlessly to diners. Service was impeccable from the friendly, smiling staff. Wonderful experience!
Became very warm during the meal. Food came up very quickly - could be a positive or negative depending on the situation. Food and gin flight were fantastic as always.
Very attentive waitress (French) however she was extremely busy.
Food was excellant but portions small, we had a beef casserole which was lovely just not enough of it! Service very good, only downside was the conversation noise, had to shout to be heard above everybody else shouting, not sure why it was so loud as no background music, unless it was being drowned out. Overall 4 out of 5 stars and would go back.
Food & drinks were excellent.Service was great.
Great service. Thank you.
Always look forward to eating there when we are in town!
