About Howies Victoria Street
Located in the city’s historic Old Town, Howies Victoria Street is carved out of rock that Edinburgh Castle perches on above. Paired back stone walls, wooden floors and an eclectic mix of Scottish art marry marvellously with the historic surroundings.
Open seven days a week, our chefs celebrate all that is great about Scottish produce. When it comes to our drinks, much research – and plenty tastings – go into the incredible menu which boasts over 20 wines by the glass, a fantastic range of Scottish craft beer as well as whiskies and gins from all over Scotland.
On Victoria Street itself you’ll find some fantastic bars and shops, including Walker Slater, The Whisky Shop and Isle of Skye Candle Co. Look up from Howies and you’ll see our sister restaurant Scotts Kitchen which is open daily from 9am for all day dining and drinks (and the perfect spot for a drink before lunch or dinner at Howies).
Never had a bad experience here great food great staff and great value for money keep doing what your doing you have got it right!!!!
We had a great meal at Howies, the service was great and the menu choice was excellent. There was a great atmosphere in the restaurant and the team there did all they could to ensure we had a great time - we will be back!
Had a lovely meal, service was great. We were all served on time and we were not rushed to leave either.
we had a lovely lunch, all our food was well presented and more importantly well cooked and full of flavour, the atmosphere was a happy sound of contented diners. The price is really fantastic value without comprising on the quality of food ( big 👏 to chefs) the waiting staff were pleasant and well organised and hard working. A big thank you to all staff for making our lunch a happy and relaxed occasion. We will return again 😁
Food okay. Good value for the set lunches. Staff are lovely. Can be a bit noisy when super busy.
Good food, but unprofessional service: very stressful, unpersonnal, rushing, 6 different waiters at our table during the evening, and miscommunication (had to ask for our ordered wines and coffee 3 times). We didn’t felt as guests but as numbers. No second time for us.
Another delicious lunch in a cosy atmosphere with great service. Howie's never disappoints.
Really enjoyed this Edinburgh restaurant - sensible prices, authentic menu and great ambiance. Well worth a visit!
Very atmospheric space and a great hub for visitors and locals.
What can I say about Howies....this little gem of a restaurant is a must to visit if your in Edinburgh. Having recently eaten at Tom Kerridges Restaurant in Marlowe, I thought I would have to pay similar money for a meal of the quality...I was wrong..Howies restaurant has an excellent atmosphere, staff who are friendly and polite, and the food is of Michelin star quality..why this restaurant hasn’t got one I don’t know but it deserves one for sure! Make sure to visit Howies you will not be disappointed
Perfect early evening pre theatre meal in cosy surroundings. All the staff were welcoming and attentive - we were very well looked after by our waiter - we will be back soon!
Great value for money, great setting on Victoria Street - loved the haggis starter!
Generally excellent all round - £2.95 for a 330ml bottle of Coke seems rather expensive, though!
I want to thank everyone in Howies for a lovely evening. I was organising this dinner for a group of 16 people, and everybody said to me that they enjoyed their meal very much. The food was delicious, the service was efficient and friendly and the ambience was welcoming. I will be back.
We all enjopyed the great Scottish produce, the wine and the atmosphere. Our guests were very impressed.
The food was lovely and the service was very good. We didn’t have to wait long for either our starter or main course.
Lovely lunch and lovely staff
Delicious food, cheerfully served.
Lovely venue, excellent service. The food was delicious and you knew you were paying for something of higher quality. Staff were incredibly attentive as well. You can’t go wrong here
consistently excellent food and service
I had not eaten in Howie’s for a long time simply because I don’t live in Edinburgh. This was the first time I had been in the Victoria Street branch. My starter of haggis, neeps and tatties was excellent, the haggis being among the best I’ve ever tasted. The casserole was good but the meat was still rather tough and should have been more tender. My three guests, two of them vegetarians, thought the food excellent. The service was friendly and efficient without being pushy. I’ll be back.
Always always excellent service and splendid and reasonably priced food here. The staff seem really happy in their workplace too. They are all really on the ball when it comes to taking allergies/ dietary requirements into consideration- I was pregnant on my last visit and they told me about pasteurised/ unpasteurised cheeses on the menu unprompted which was really kind.
