About Howies Victoria Street
Located in the city’s historic Old Town, Howies Victoria Street is carved out of rock that Edinburgh Castle perches on above. Paired back stone walls, wooden floors and an eclectic mix of Scottish art marry marvellously with the historic surroundings.
Open seven days a week, our chefs celebrate all that is great about Scottish produce. When it comes to our drinks, much research – and plenty tastings – go into the incredible menu which boasts over 20 wines by the glass, a fantastic range of Scottish craft beer as well as whiskies and gins from all over Scotland.
On Victoria Street itself you’ll find some fantastic bars and shops, including Walker Slater, The Whisky Shop and Isle of Skye Candle Co. Look up from Howies and you’ll see our sister restaurant Scotts Kitchen which is open daily from 9am for all day dining and drinks (and the perfect spot for a drink before lunch or dinner at Howies).
We were actually at Waterloo place Everything was excellent would definitely go back
A most enjoyable lunch. Good food and service. Would recommend
A great lunch! Thank you for making us so welcome - we had a lovely lunch which was great value for money and very warming on a cold day. The team made us very welcome and although they were attentive, they also let us have a good catch up as my friend and I had not seen one another for ages! Thanks again - hope to see you again soon.
Absolutely amazing, so accommodating, it was my partner's birthday and Howie's really made it an amazing end to a great day.
food was delicious, great value.staff were really friendly covid measures werr excellent felt safe.
Had a lovely meal here whilst on a weekend break, staff were friendly and helpful and food was tasty and fresh.
We had an evening meal for two. The choice of food was excellent and of excellent quality. We both had wine and they were also of very good quality. The service was also excellent. Our waitress was quietly spoken but had a lovely manner about her. All in all it was a lovely evening.
I am a vegetarian and was great to see that the chef had done something different than the usual pasta or risotto option! Can highly recommend the cauliflower steak
Nice food, portions fairly small but then it was the meal deal, good service.
Excellent food and service...
Food absolutely amazing. The beef casserole was outstanding! Great service - not rushed at all despite the 2 hour time slot. Only point I would make is not enough distancing between some tables Overall very enjoyable night - highly recommend and would definitely return
The dinner was amazing, the same as the service. I'll go back for sure!
Another great meal at Howies.
Excellent food with attentive staff. Delighted to see a gluten free menu
Howies is a fab little restaurant, unfortunately the beef stew wasn’t as tender as expected. However the starters were lovely and staff were very friendly.
Nice food and wine! And great service!
Always enjoy the food and ambience
Absolutely excellent food, friendly staff, we were not rushed at all. Lovely atmosphere and no harsh lighting that some restaurants have. They were also very kind in offering us the 2 courses deal which ended at 6.30pm (the time we sat down). Fantastic restaurant!
An excellent evening! Food, drink and staff all fantastic
The lack of atmosphere is due to the present circumstances we find ourselves in. I have always enjoyed dining at Howie’s .
Had a great meal here. Food we delicious and even without the offer on the early evening menu is great value. Staff were lovely and welcoming and felt safe in these covid times. Have been coming to Howies for years and so glad it is still here and serving such lovely food
well organised, safe and great value for money, food fantastic and good service, what more could you ask for!
Howies Victoria Street is quite a busy place, so I recommend booking in advance. The place itself is lovely and cozy. The waiters and waitresses were quite quick and attentive, and didn't have any problems on giving recommendations. The food was delicious and totally worth the money; and in their menu they have both traditional and more contemporary dishes, with vegetarian options, so I am pretty sure everyone can find something they would be happy eating. Also, given the serving portions, I would consider they have reasonable prices. All in all, it is a place I will recommend to friends and family if they visit Edinburgh.
Fantastic food , excellent service - stunning location and great to see the modifications for Covid.
Beautiful meal served by a great waitress who was so friendly and enthusiastic. Thank you
