About House of Darwin
We had an idea, sat across the table in our favourite bar, to do something fantastic with a village pub. We wanted somewhere friends could come and get together, enjoying a great variety of drinks and food, inspired by seasonality and individuality. Honest food, friendly service and comfortable unrefined surroundings.
Your home from home and our dream realised. Welcome to door No.221 House of Darwin.
Service is always with a smile here and very welcoming. The food is superb and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. They have a great Gin collection!
The table wasn’t ready when we arrived at the time we had booked. Small menu which didn’t reflect what was shown online also no cauliflower cheese with the main which was on the menu. Also we asked for some butter for the cheese and biscuits and the waitress forgot who was also rude and didn’t seem like she knew what she was doing!
a very enjoyable evening
Beautiful dinner - blade of beef was cooked to perfection. Lovely atmosphere and brilliant service. Will be back. Thanks
Lovely night and great food .. very attentive staff and we will be back .. thank you
The quality of the food and drink is second to none.its as good as anywhere I've eaten. The one place I really think you can improve is the kids menu. £6 for 1 sausage and chips is very expensive in my opinion. Steak was cooked perfect . Pepper sauce lovely and service excellent as always. Please review the child's menu ... keep up the good work. Why not have a look at some competitors kids menu. ?
Been here a few times unfortunately on this occasion the service was slow at first as was busy but staff nice and friendly didn't spoil the enjoyment
Great meal, table service and atmosphere, would go again!!
Well organised and fast turnover appreciated for lunch break serving. Great food!
Excellent reception from the moment we walked in to the place, drinks orders promptly taken and Chris doing magic tricks with cocktail shakers, lemons and limes had my young daughter absolutely transfixed, made it even more special as he picked up on the fact she was a bit upset about something, very attentive and observant. The table service was excellent, although the place wasn’t particularly busy we felt very well looked after from the moment we were taken to our table. The food orders were taken efficiently and came on time with excellent quality and presentation. All in all a fantastic and enjoyable experience which made my daughter’s 17th birthday a very special experience, thanks guys, a brilliant job by you all, not forgetting the chef obviously ! Adam Preston
We have had a few meals here now and we love it. Food is delicious, atmosphere is great and friendly service. Lovely bar area. Highly recommend. Child friendly place
Thank you. The food was delicious. The service was excellent too. We had a lovely, unrushed evening. We,ll definitely be returning.
Beautiful food, lovely atmosphere and super helpful staff. What more could you want!!!
Visited for the first time on 1/1/19. Lovely décor, very relaxing and cosy. The food was lovely and the set menu for £20 was great value for money. We were however put on a table that felt like it was just placed in the middle of the walkway. Other than that excellent and will return in the future
Very poor service throughout the night, the steak dish was also very undercooked and fatty and had to be changed, which left me eating my meal alone as the others had finished there meal. No discount was offered or desserts for the mistake. The second steak the plate and steak was very Creasy extremely disappointed ☹️
Staff were lovely and very friendly, but the service could of been quicker.
Lovely meal, great service.
The food could just do with being a tad warmer, or have heated plates. Other than this, the food is amazing!
Service was prompt and we got our drinks order quickly. Starters arrived quickly and kids meals arrived not long after, which placated the kids. Main meals were good and we all commented on how much we enjoyed them after. We had desserts and the creme brule tasted a little too much of egg, we could only conclude it had been overcooked. It took some time to catch the attention of the staff to get the bill. Atmosphere was good.
very helpful, friendly service. Great place for a lunch time meal away from the office.
The food was decent value from the set menu and the service was of a good standard. We were sat at a table for two, however while I had a chair my partner had to share a long bench with other diners which proved a little cramped and we found it difficult to talk without others being able to listen in on our conversation. After we'd eaten we found it difficult to find somewhere to sit in the bar area though this was probably because of a private party taking place. Would visit again but more likely just for drinks.
Ian and the staff are absolutely fantastic! The food ranges from good to delicious and we always feel welcome at The House of Darwin, our favourite local!
Excellent service and food. Good portions and great ambiance.
Excellent food and service. The fillet steak was melt in the mouth. The kids got a surprise magic trick at the end of the evening which was brilliant
