About House of Darwin
We had an idea, sat across the table in our favourite bar, to do something fantastic with a village pub. We wanted somewhere friends could come and get together, enjoying a great variety of drinks and food, inspired by seasonality and individuality. Honest food, friendly service and comfortable unrefined surroundings.
Your home from home and our dream realised. Welcome to door No.221 House of Darwin.
Absolutely nothing wrong except for the pudding choices. Bit screwed if you don’t like cheesecake (which I don’t) so was very disappointed as pudding is my favourite meal. Everything else was lovely including Jasmine our waitress :)
2nd time we've been since menu change - sorry to say I prefer the previous menu - far less variety, portions are a bit tight too. Getting the Bill like the last visit too a long time too which was niggling. Its a shame really as there is so much potential for this place since the refurb.
New menu doesnt work, really poor service, long wait for drinks, food was cold. Poor experience and it was my birthday.
Very nice meal. Liked the cheesecake with a candle in for my dads birthday it was a nice touch xoxo
Lovely food, eaten several times never had a bad meal. Maybe more pudding choice apart from cheesecake would be good.
Good pizzas, nice friendly staff. Need more choice on the menu - more choice of pizzas and definitely more choice of desserts as there’s only cheesecake! What happens if you don’t like cheesecake? Staff very friendly and helpful though.
Amazing birthday here !! Staff were amazing ! Please send our thanks to them ! They worked so hard and were just brilliant xx
Food and service was amazing
Attentive service. Main meals were well presented and very tasty. Our only better if would be the dessert menu. Understand that you are wanting to be known for your cheescake, they were OK but definitley not wow. Need to have at least a nother couple of options.
Great food and exceptional service!
Was a little gutted the Steak meal had changed as was looking forward to the 3 separate sauces that I had when I had it first time round and this time we came there was no complimentary bread on the table. Never the less we all still had a lovely meals.
I'm pleased to say the food was excellent. It is good news to hear that the salmon can also be served on salad. Jordon was excellent as always.
There was an excellent choice of food and the chef was very accommodating of the member of our party who only ate vegan dishes along with the waitress who was outstanding in her effort to ensure that our dietary requests were met. The portions were generous and the service excellent.
We came for a birthday celebration and was very disappointed. The pizzas were soggy underneath but over cooked on the edges and black. The burgers were missing 2 Ingredients advertised and 1 was so undercooked it was inedible, even though we had asked for these to be cooked very well done. Only 1 meal out of the 5 ordered was enjoyed, We will not be returning again.
The 4 of us who visited were all disappointed with the choices on the menu. We would have loved steak pie as a choice. Also feel that menu should maybe have had a things like lasagne, chilli c, hunters chicken ..a few basic favourites. One or two more handpicked real ales would be much appreciated too. We have been a few times now, but really disappointed this time...we will maybe not return until the menu is changed😐
Service was brilliant and it looks lovely inside but unfortunatly the menu doesn't help picky eaters nor people who are elderly with no teeth. Ended up having a child's meal (chicken nuggets and chips) the chicken was very greesy.
Excellent service & thought the new menu met all of our expectations Enjoyed a couple of Birra Moretti beers to complement our experience
The last two weeks the food has been really disappointing. Everything was so greasy. There are very few healthy options on the new menu and a distinct lack of fresh veg. Even the purple sprouting broccoli came deep fried - which was contrary to the description on the menu. Sweet potatoes everywhere. However, the ravioli starter was delicious. Sadly even the cheesecake was bland and cloying. This is a shame as we have been coming almost every week for months but now find ourselves struggling to choose from the menu. Jordon D is always amazing and a real credit to you. His level of welcome and customer service is outstanding.
Great new menu- lovely to see more vegetarian dishes
We had a brilliant evening. Lots of different things on the new menu. And menu much easier to read - lol
Recent changes at this restaurant are not in my opinion improvements. Menu choices have been significantly reduced, prices for food and wine have increased. Complimentary bread basket has been discontinued. Only desserts on the menu are cheesecakes. Sauces to accompany steaks are now charged extra. A main course for 3 people and one bottle of wine costing £100 is a bit too much for a local pub.
We frequently visit here, at least monthly. We booked a table due to the occasion and were surprised there was no email to update us that the menu had a complete overhaul. All together fantastic food as always
Presentation of food could have been better and meals were disappointing overall.
Lovely atmosphere & food and great service as always
Slow to serve drinks at table but was not a major issue as we had time to chat and get comfortable at our table Staff are polite and helpful when asking about the menu
