About House of Darwin
We had an idea, sat across the table in our favourite bar, to do something fantastic with a village pub. We wanted somewhere friends could come and get together, enjoying a great variety of drinks and food, inspired by seasonality and individuality. Honest food, friendly service and comfortable unrefined surroundings.
Your home from home and our dream realised. Welcome to door No.221 House of Darwin.
Lovely meal, waitress was amazing, atmosphere was lovely will definitely be back! The only negative (very minor) was that the chairs were very uncomfortable.
Crem brûlée had to much gelatine in it. Chips would look better served in a bowl instead of on a plate.
The venue, drinks and staff are excellent, however the food was poor. The onion starter was tiny and unappetising the mackerel pate portion was mean, the mushroom however was good. The Thai pad had chewy noodles and the veg burger is no better than a Birdseye offering, the meat burger was ok. We only had one dessert, the jelly which was ok but the crime fraiche topping was rubbery to say the least. I’m sort but there is no way I could recommend mediocre food at far from mediocre prices even in a stunning setting.
Excellent meal....will definitely be back!
Great food, lovely staff and fab atmosphere!
Perfect place to catch up with friends, lovely atmosphere, staff attitude was brilliant, will definately be back
Can’t fault it. The service was impeccable and better than I’ve received in many places that claim to be 5 star. Quality and presentation was fantastic, and the knowledge of the menu and selecting a wine to complement was outstanding. I’ll be sure to return and to share my experience - thank you !
Amazing food, great service, what more could you ask for of your local???
Think the summer menu needs explanation of words folks arent familiar with (you have it on the website). Don’t like burgers served PINK this is not acceptable or necessary. ( don’t bow to trends) . We had a great evening
Had a great time with House of Darwin, such a lovely chilled atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious rustic fine dining. Would definitely recommend and I’ll definitely be returning soon!
Can't fault the food or the surroundings, but the time it took to serve the food was a bit too long. Also there is a 10% service charge added to the bill, which I didn't realise until I looked at the receipt at home. £12.49 had been added to it and as we had left a tip as well, they did quite well out of us.
The food was excellent. It was my 2nd visit. The first time was off the bar menu equally as nice.
Tasty meal, lovely cocktails and great atmosphere. Going again next week with a different group of friends.
Main meals were lovely, cannot be faulted on the quality, but the portions seems to be getting smaller and the prices more expensive. Been coming to the Darwin since it opened and the nachos have doubled in price now, we just can’t afford to come as often as we used to. The service was fantastic as it always is. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful! Massive kudos to your friendly team. The desserts were a let down, we’ve never had desserts with you before and the cake was dry and the panna cotta was inedible, it was left after two spoonfuls. Will still come back to the Darwin, but it’s becoming more of a special occassion restaurant than a family weekday treat
Came in at lunch time on a few occasions and you had pizzas and drink on an express menu which gave good value at lunch time. Came in on this occasion and pizzas started at £10 plus extra for drinks. This is not good value for a lunchtime and the place was empty. Please consider lunch offers going forward. Pizza is lovely though!
Hi Mr Ingram, thank you for the feedback. I'm glad you like the Pizza! we have a fantastic lunch menu offer of 2 courses for £9.95 from a bespoke menu that changes weekly. this also includes our Ciabatta sandwiches that are only £7 and greta value for money. Say hi next time you are in and i will show what we have to offer. please don't hesitate to contact us if you need anything though Iain MacPherson General Manager 01332 747472
Fab food, great service. A really enjoyable experience.
Food lovely, service not great on the night, seemed a lot of staff milling around yet still quite a wait at the bar area, also had to wait for drinks at our table. Would still visit again as the first time we came the service was brilliant
We were a large booking out for a celebratory meal, we pre ordered due to the size of our party. We all enjoyed our meals and the service was excellent!
After having wonderful dining experiences here we needed a venue for a small gathering. We wanted a buffet lunch for 15/20 people. From the moment Kara took our booking to when the lunch was finished the experience was wonderful. We were helped with our menu selection, all the special dietary requirements were catered for, the lunch was bang on time, freshly cooked / prepared and delicious. The atmosphere in here is always relaxed and lovely and the team are always on hand with recommendations and cheery banter! The gin selection is wide and varied and should definitely be sampled!! The menu at the House of Darwin is evolving all the time and they now also do an Early Bird menu which is excellent value for money and delicious, this is Monday to Friday 12:00-18:00. Whatever you come here for the welcome will be warm, highly recommended
Excellent service . Our server was very helpful friendly and attentive. Food was delicious . Only minor critism is no form of air conditioning, it was a very warm night and there were no ceiling fans or windows that seemed to be open
The dinners were very nice, however the dauphinois potatoes as a side order was awful and I have never had potatoes so dry. We should have sent it back.
Sunday roasts were delicious accompanied by the crisp citrus tang of Chablis. Great service as well.
Food was good service was excellent, staff were attentive and helpful
Had a great time apart from the footy result
Excellent service from a friendly welcoming team. Great drinks selection. The menu is deliberately small, the quality is fantastic and well worth the extra waiting times as it’s all freshly prepared. I have to say though that this is probably my least favourite of your menus, but that just my personal taste. However, when I asked for variations on my order, nothing was too much trouble and I ended up with a fantastic plate of beautiful food! What more can you ask for ? I’m so glad this is my local and will definitely be spending much time in here! Thank you to all involved
