About House of Darwin
We had an idea, sat across the table in our favourite bar, to do something fantastic with a village pub. We wanted somewhere friends could come and get together, enjoying a great variety of drinks and food, inspired by seasonality and individuality. Honest food, friendly service and comfortable unrefined surroundings.
Your home from home and our dream realised. Welcome to door No.221 House of Darwin.
This s a true hidden gem! Came back two days after my first time here as I loved it so much. Can not recommend enough; the quality of food was well above 90% of pubs in Derby.
Having been a regular to the darwin for quite a while before the pandemic, I have enjoyed the delicious food and would rate it as 5 out of 5. Unfortunately on my recent visit the food was no where near as good as it was, our burgers were dry and had quite a few bits of gristle and the portion of chips was very small... For £13 I felt very disappointed especially as it was a treat meal for a 40th birthday. I totally understand that it is difficult getting back in the swing of things after all the uncertainty over the last year. We were really looking forward to it and felt quite deflated which is a shame.
Felt welcome, excellent service for drinks. Thanks again the blankets were a great touch.
Great first night out
The staff were welcoming and attentive, and whilst the menu is currently limited, they were able to cater to our requirements.
Fantastic place. Can't wait to be back inside.
Had a lovely meal for my daughters birthday. Very relaxed, with umbrellas and blankets provided!!
Had a great visit, the staff as always were brilliant. It was good to be back. Thanks
Food and drink and service excellent but cold outside and it rained not hod fault
Been coming here for years and I absolutely love it. Introduced my other half to the house of Darwin and he’s already asked to rebook next week 😋 big shout out to Ian who sorted me a table and short notice ❤️ See you next week guys x
Poor service poor menu
We booked The House of Darwin to celebrate the life of our friend Vicki after her funeral. Ian and the staff took very good care of us. It's a great place to visit, I recommend it.
Lovely staff very welcoming and polite good service
A very enjoyable experience
We've heard great things about the food, and our friends have tried the food here before lockdown hence decided to celebrate my husband's birthday here. However from our recent trip the food was pretty bad, it just wasn't good. Pretty sure they've changed chef/ recipe. And they're short of staff, literally had to wait and we'd no choice but to approach random staff just to get our table
The burger and chips is a lot of money to make it a meal
It was lovely apart from the entertainment. Suzie sax. I thought my ears were going to bleed. Please don't ever book her again!!
A warm welcome and friendly service. The food is so good and excellent range of drinks. It's never a problem for them to cater for my little boy who has a number of allergies. We ate there yesterday and my son said it was the best meal ever! Definitely recommend :-)
Menu very limited, burgers, nachos and meat/cheese platters and no desserts 😞
Good outdoor space with spacing of tables. Friendly staff.
We had a lovely meal with great service. It was great to be back!
Excellent, friendly staff. Great food and drinks.
Girls were efficient and attentive, credit to them
Great to be back drinking at the darwin. Let's hope this is the last time it shuts.
good helpful staff, nice relaxed atmosphere.
