Been on numerous occasions and never had a bad meal.......once you know the menu you can judge the number of dishes you require. But the food is delicious. I'd suggest that the lighting on Faulkner St side could be lower....giving it a cosier feel. But always on my list of venues to eat.
The booking system was easy and I appreciated the confirmation email. Front of House was pleasant. The drinks are expensive. Mine was mostly ice. I ordered the porkbelly bao, a dish I'd had before, along with a side plate of egg fried rice. My companion had the sea bass (which someone had recommended to me) with rice. His portion was quite skimpy, unlike the photos on Tripadvisor, and the rice dry. My rice was cold and inedible: it looked like they'd just added left-overs to cold white rice, added extra soya sauce and mixed it badly. The egg was practically invisible. To his credit, the server deducted the meal from the bill. I was about to add a tip when I overheard the staff within the kitchen laughing and shouting about 'fried rice'. As I'm Asian, I took this as a racist affront. Suffice to say, I didn't tip and won't be returning.
Chicken in the green curry was vile. Overcooked, old and overly chewy meat completely ruined the dish. Cocktails served with too much lemon juice - undrinkable. Make sure you train your staff to make basic drinks.
Delicious food. Prompt service and friendly staff. Hot meals or few small plates. What more is there to like? I had forgotten about this little place and will definitely be going back soon.
Our first time eating at Host, wont be our last 5* all the way.
Food and drink was excellent and the staff very helpful. My only criticism is that it was a bit 'canteen- like' ie hard chairs, bright lights- this is a purely personal opinion and would not put me off from returning.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The food, drink and service were all fabulous. We will be back for more very soon. Thank you for having us!
Great pre-theatre meal.
We love the food and the atmosphere .. we have never eaten a bad meal .. top marks to all
We had a reservation and, after being left for a while at the front desk, were shown to our seats. Shortly after sitting down we were asked to grab our table and shift backwards so that another group could squeeze in. Folks have to sit down but hey, organise your tables around your bookings guys. Waiting staff were attentive but not in our faces (which is good) and the food, apart from my wife's hard portion of rice (I thought it was her but no, it was hard) was very tasty indeed. Oh, my sweet potato fries arrived late and were a bit cold and limp. We still ate them though since we were starving!
All five meals were served luke warm!! Two were sent back when all five should have been returned. Staff were very obliging and efficient but obviously a problem in the kitchen.
Thanks for getting a special gluten-free desert with candle for my husband (birthday), very much appreciated!
We had a party of 9 and had a really good night out
I booked on line but had to change the arrival time. I spoke to a lovely lady who couldn’t of been any more helpful.
We often visit Host when attending the Phil and find the food and service excellent.Would highly recommend you try
3rd visit when visiting Liverpool...staff welcoming and helpful. Shared small bites which were extremely tasteful. Doughnut finger dessert...underwhelming I’m afraid! Would I visit again , having visited at lunchtime and in the evening...definitely!
I was asked to organise a meal for work colleagues who are based nationwide. Having been to Host before I was keen to take everybody along. Food was delicious, as it always is. The Ham Hock small plate is amazing. Service was quick, despite the size of our Group - 14 in total. Great ambiance in the restaurant and everybody enjoyed the evening. Thanks.
Excellent food and service
Great food and cocktails
Waiter was so helpful couldn't do enough for us. Didn't pressure us to eat quickly to vacate the table. Menu has a good choice for vegetarians but there could be more. Love this place and just keep coming back.
I visited on a Saturday evening with 4 friends. The service was faultless, the staff were friendly and informative. We had a mixture of regular and vegetarian options all of which we enjoyed. The starters are huge, so if like one of my friends you choose a few of these instead of a main meal you will be more than pleased! I booked online which again was easy and booking confirmed immediately, Highly recommended!
Excellent as ever
Excellent food and service
Fabulous evening, great service, fantastic cocktails and the food was amazing....aubergine Dahl was too sweet for me but the cauliflower starter was out of this world! I will be back!
