About Hope and Anchor Wirksworth
The Hope and Anchor Wirksworth is a Grade II listed building at the centre of Wirksworth. We have been working extensively to improve the decor of the building, and create a thriving business.
We have decided to go with a Rustic themed interior, as you can see from the images we have tried to reuse materials where possible and keep some of the historic features of the building. We have added a brand new bar and stocked it with a huge range of products, unrivalled in the local area. We have all bases covered, whether your tipple is lager, beer cider, wine or spirits.
We have also brought food back to the pub, we have decided to go with traditional pub food with a modern twist, our menu is ever developing so look out for the changes. We use only the best locally sourced produce and aim to provide the best quality pub meal you can find.
Our beer garden has been drastically improved, the walled garden provides a safe and secluded area to relax, eat & drink.
We are continuing to develop and more changes are coming soon...
Fab food for good price and lovely staff!
Very friendly and efficient service. Good choice of decent beer. Room was a little cooler that we would have liked, but was by no means freezing.
Food and drink quality was spot on Quantities of food were spot on Service by staff on the day of the meal spot on Organisation was a little substandard as meals and deposits arranged through email weeks in advance and then on the day 2x desserts are omitted from the order when other desserts have arrived
Fabulous meal, great experience the staff were excellent and really looked after us, have already recommended to friends and will certainly visit again.
Excellent. I booked in for 12md, we received a lovely welcome. Although the menu isn't extensive, the specials board was good from which I chose the sea bream. The fish was beautifully cooked and well presented. I was very pleasantly surprised., and will go again. Definitely one to recommend.
Shame the restaurant was empty apart from us which made it feel a bit flat, but absolutely not your fault! The food was lovely and the service was spot on.
Not enough staff Slow service and parts of meal burnt Asked twice for more gravy, never came... Never had plates cleared from table so sorted paying bill ourselves with table still dirty. Was not offered deserts Told member of staff of our visit and no apology or resolution. Didn't seem particularly interested in my view
One of the male waiters talks at you rather than to you
We wer advised to chose from menu board, should give customers printed menu as it gave more information about the dishes
Young waiter was not focussed, we had to ask him several times, for several things. Food came out wrong, and me and my daughter had our mains 5 minutes before my partner. We dined here the previous Saturday, couldn't fault it, hence why we rebooked for the Friday. Was very disappointing.
Amazing transformation to what was once a neglected pub. Beer and food range and quality have been second to none both times I've eaten here. Looking forward to next time I'm in this area.
Very nice, food good.
Was a little disappointed with selection of drink available (due to a busy weekend 4 days ago!!!)
Love the quality of the food and the staff were so accommodating and friendly
Meals were lovely first time visiting the place and will defi return. Friendly welcoming staff aswel
Really good Sunday carvery. Nice choice, good quality, plenty of food. Nice pint to wash it down. Service friendly.
Felt a bit confused when we first went in about how the service actually works and confusion over which bar to go too. Our table was not reserved when we got there either after booking through this site. Food was good value for money and service at the Carvery counter was great.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the Hope and Anchor. Considering there was 9 of us and everyone ordered a different dish, the service was really timely. The portions were very generous and all the food tasted amazing. The lady who looked after us on the day was lovely too- very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks!
We enjoyed the Sunday carver. Good selection of meats and some nicely cooked veggies. The vegetarian option looked good and the staff were very accommodating of special dietary requirements. The only negative is that the beef that day was quite dry and chewy. The other meats were excellent. Nice selection of real ales too.
Nice meal on Sunday. Would recommend that the website clearly states that it's Sunday carvery only for lunch as we expected to have a choice from the main menu.
Carvery was lovely, and reasonably priced. Service behind the bar wasn’t amazingly quick or overly helpful when we tried to enquire about the table we’d booked. Took some waiting and another team member to clarify what we were meant to do (having never eaten there before). Overall really good meal. Just a bit more polish on the service when folks who are dining come in.
Steak unavailable on Steak night. Says it all!
Disgraceful service. When our starters arrived we were told the chef had made a mistake and our mains were also ready. We said we didn't want them yet (I'm not eating my starter and main together), we just wanted our starters. When our mains did come out 30 minutes later it was the same meals - they'd been put under a hot plate for 30 minutes whilst we ate our starters. Meals were dried up, and my naan bread crumbled to pieces when I tried to bend it. The wife's stew was dried up around the edge of the bowl and had no dumpling (obviously thought that wouldn't keep so just took it off the meal and she could do without). What kind of a chef sends out a meal like that.
We were disappointed about the sudden change to the Sunday menu, the booking was made just 2 days beforehand on the strength of the menu on line which we were told was now unavailable. Also, the only vegetarian option available on the carvery was a nut roast which was unsuitable as, as I had mentioned via the e-booking form, one of our party (my small son) has a nut allergy. Once we adjusted to the menu and had our food all was well and we enjoyed it, however I feel you will lose business with an absence of clarity re the model and a lack of choice for vegetarians.
