About Hop & Cleaver / Redhouse
Welcome to the world of Hop & Cleaver, a brand new bar and eatery on Newcastle’s Quayside. We smoke our meats, brew our own small batch craft beers and love inventing all manner of cocktails. Here are a few things to expect;
BBQ RIBS, BATHTUB BOURBONS, MICRO BREWERY, COCKTAILS & HARD SHAKES, DAIQUIRI & MARGARITA SLUSHIES, SUPERB SALADS, SMOKEY BRISKET, BEER CAN CHICKEN, OUTSIDE COURTYARD, PICK & PULL YOUR OWN PINTS IN 2 AMAZING PRIVATE AREAS, GROWLERS, MAKE YOUR OWN MANHATTANS, PULLED PORK.
We booked the Hop and Cleaver for a birthday meal and drinks with a large group of friends. The atmosphere, food and service was fab! We were seated in the tap room which was perfect for the occasion. Highly recommend!
Brilliant service lovely food. Easy to rearrange my reservation. Didn't have to wait long for food and it had a lot of nicce flavour
The food was really good, however we had to wait 50 minutes for it. I understand that it is busy as it's wings Wednesday, but when putting on an offer like this you have to prepare for high volume orders. The wait time would make me reconsider coming again which is a shame because the wings were actually really good.
The service was awesome and the beer and wings were amazing!
This was my first visit to Hop & Cleaver and I really enjoyed it. The building is great - I loved the old oak beams, the stone floors and the little courtyard. The service was great, the cocktails were really carefully prepared and the staff were friendly. I especially enjoyed the soundtrack which was mainly reggae classics on the night we were there - great for relaxing and unwinding to. The food was good, and good value too - we got loads of fries! The brioche bun with our burgers did tend to disintegrate a bit, but that's the only thing I can find to complain about! (Maybe a little mini Oreo cookie or some such thing with the coffee would be a nice touch?)
excellent food and service
Quick for drinks, advised on a delay for food being served, good that it was mentioned upon ordering. Food was lovely, very good value. 3rd visit for food, always been nice. Server was pleasant.
Great food and great service, would visit again
Perfect experience from booking. We were met at the door and taken straight to our tables, we were a large group and were served very promptly. We had opted for the party crates and the food was excellent and plentiful. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and there was a great atmosphere. Will certainly be back and recommending to anyone heading to Newcastle. Thanks!
It was a Thursday so maybe a littler quieter than normal, service brill and food was fantastic! Had been a while since I visited but I will be back sooner next time!
By far the best wings in town and great selection of beer to go with them
Really great food and beer in a great setting. Will definitely be back when we visit Newcastle again
We had the Taco Sharing Board - would definitely recommend!!
Took a little while to receive the bill but had really friendly service. Food and drinks were nice if not a little bit pricey. Would come back.
Waitress/bar member was genuinely happy to help
Come here regularly, great vibe, food is dynamite, I enjoy the menu changing from time to time to keep things fresh
Excellent food and service
Everything was spot on from the decor to the service and lovely food. Guest beer was lovely too as well as their own.
The food is good, not great, but good. BUT... The drinks are amazing, 2 for 1 cocktails! (everyday, all day) I think there are a couple of simple changes that would make The Hop and Cleaver so much better. My family and I we’re stopping over for 1 night, at the Travelodge just up the road. We decided to go to The Hop and Cleaver because it was close and the whole vibe of the place looked interesting. When we sat down, the menus were already on the table for our perusal. First thing I noticed was that there is no information next to any of the cocktails and also the food menu is strange. There’s limited choice for mains and it’s difficult to understand what you actually get. Especially the Crates/sharers, which is what originally attracted us the most. So either add more information to your menus or train your staff to explain the menus when they show you to your table. But like I say - cocktails - beaut!
A friendly welcome awaits with a great selection of craft beers and menu of home comforts, and all topped of will attentive but unobtrusive service. Will definitely be back.
Great service and food. Our waitress was lovely and was knowledgeable about food and drinks menu. Will definitely be back.
A pleasure to visit as always
Great couple of hrs
Lovely food and lovely people but waited a while for food and asked for bill 3 times until we eventually received it.
