About Hooked on Marahau
Hooked is a waterfront cafe, beer garden and restaurant located in Marahau; the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park. Hooked was opened in 2002 by the Alborn family. Zoe Alborn has managed Hooked since its opening day and remains just as obsessed as she has ever been to delivering a wonderful dining experience for every visitor.
The interior of Hooked has two beach house style dining rooms, both of which are adorned with an impressive collection of seashells, driftwood, crayfish pots and other vintage nautical objects. Even after multiple visits to Hooked, visitors find plenty of interesting pieces still felt to discover.
Hooked runs a popular happy hour every day from 4:00PM to 6:00PM with a selection of local craft beers and local wines included. Local Marahau village residents and visitors to the Abel Tasman National Park converge on Hooked each afternoon to sit, chat, quench thirsts and welcome the stunning sunsets across Tasman Bay.
Great service - meals and drinks were quick and delicious food. Thanks team
A lovely meal with great atmosphere
Hooked at Marahau was a fabulous location with great food and good service. We would highly recommend.
Great atmosphere, friendly & efficient service, with fresh tasty food at a good price - will be back.
We were impressed by the selection of gluten free options, including dessert.
Very nice everything
We love these guys
Very happy with everything!
Great place, thoroughly enjoyable
Great local cafe for local people in Marahau. Nice to be welcomed as a local with out of towm family ion tow. Thanks for organising the 'birthday cake' and wonderful signing of happy birthday.
Amazing food and service, we especially appreciated the vegan options, thank you so much!
Absolutely gorgeous meal. The only thing was I had a mojito and the mint was in bits and a straw would have solved the bits of mint other than that we couldn't fault it
Delightful evening, highly recommend Hooked for a coffee stop or a meal
Amazing setting and staff were all sooooo friendly
Folks, lovely location, well groomed but food pub quality and middle of the street. Pep the menu up, get fresh fish various styles on it (hooked?). We will come again for a drink and nibbles post activities in the Abel Tasman but not for dinner!
Thank you for a warm welcome and a perfect table inside but with a gorgeous view of the ocean. Your menu is perfect! I loved the spaghetti with seasonal veg; al dente and delicious! Tim raved over the fish and chips. Well done! Just one small comment...my gin & tonic tasted as though the tonic was flat... maybe from A large bottle already opened? Only a small point and nothing to prevent me giving you all a great review!
Loved it as usual. Our reliable and excellent local.
The location is in a beautiful location. The venue and setup is unique and beautiful. The environment is welcoming. The staff are wonderful, kind with very good service. The food was perfect! Fast, but fresh! Simple and good! Best food I've had dinning out for months. Me and my partner ordered: $55 four plates of entrees and two desserts was the brownie and cheese cake. It was fabulous and delicious!! I'd highly recommend dining at Hooked, because you will be hooked once you try it
Awesome food in an amazing location 💗
Lovely meal out. Food was yum and good portions and service was good and prompt
Great place to eat. Lovely atmosphere and great food.
This is an amazing little place ..the only restaurant in the area but they still put in the effort to make great food and give great service.
Fabulous restaurant in gorgeous location. Always great service and atmosphere.
This restaurant was recommended to us by someone from Nelson and it was really very disappointing, We were seated out the front which could have been nice with a nice outlook except we were seated next to noisy kids ++ who were talking/yelling/singing at the top of their voices with parents who were oblivious to how it was affecting other diners- not the restaurant's fault but not a great start. The menu not very exciting at all and really wasn't any much different to a pub menu really. We ordered ceviche which I have had many times and like to have with a large squeeze of lemon so asked for lemon when ordering it. It arrived without it, so reminded the waitress who came back with 2 small slices you would put in a drink- not at all squeezable, so asked for a proper wedge. This was met with a reaction like I was asking for something special or expensive. 1 wedge arrived My husband asked for wasabi and he was looked at as if he was talking a different language and then told 'no' they did not have any. The ceviche arrived and unfortunately, the fresh herbs mentioned in the description in the menu was coriander which my husband cannot eat. Lucky for me because the serving was very small with fish cut into very tiny pieces and not big enough to share anyway. Something like coriander should be specified in the description as it is so polarising and many people do not like it. The squid we ordered was just ok. The 'special coating' was pretty underwhelming really. The mayonnaise that accompanies it was also on the small side and we had to ask for more. Not enough provided for the amount of squid. The Bao buns with lamb were ok. The buns texture was as if they had been over steamed, not light and fluffy, a bit dense (I often use these so had a fair idea how they should be) The best part of the meal was the iced coffee at the end which came with ice cream and cream- very tasty. The whole experience was underwhelming, with very average food, served by wait staff who seemed not very friendly and flustered and reacted to requests like we were asking for the world when we had been told it was excellent. Very disappointing.
