Unfortunately our meal was disappointing. There was nothing wrong with it (apart from the chocolate brownie) but it was not what we were expecting. Very uninspiring and unimaginative. I could have cooked a better meal myself or could have chosen so many other restaurants to go to for my Birthday meal. The chocolate brownie dessert was mainly cream with 2 tiny squares of brownie and some tasteless chocolate drops thrown in. For what we had the meal was very over-priced. Staff were attentive but most didn't seem very happy
I had ordered a vegetarian afternoon tea as one in the party of seven was a vegetarian. However I was disappointed to see that the vegetarian sandwiches were not put on a separate plate ,but mixed with ham and smoked salmon.I should have complained at the time , but I felt the staff were very busy at the time .Also I gave two stars for the ambiance ,as the next table of over twenty or more made conversation difficult for smaller tables, such as us .
Really disappointed with pretty much everything about this booking. Have attended the venue many times in the past with family/friends to use spa & treatment facilities along with afternoon tea which has always been pleasant and would usually always actively recommend. However, this view has changed significantly after our bank holiday Monday visit this week. The event had been advertised on facebook highlighting/promoting Aleighcia Scott being in attendance to perform. Being a huge fan with a relatively large family, we attend most of these types of performances so we booked a table for 6 people at 1:30pm on the 6th May 2019. To our surprise we arrived into what I can only describe as a solemn atmosphere, music so quiet we could barely hear it and time on time were shocked to see the staff passing back and forth the performer telling her to turn the music down (was that not the reason she was booked, to sing?) this was bizarre from an on-lookers perspective, particularly given that the event was marketed for the purpose of Aleighcia performing!! Anyhow, despite the fact we couldn’t hear the music we thought we’d entertain ourselves and order some cocktails. These were advertised on the same facebook poster as being x2 for £12 which led us to question the bill when it came back stating x2 for £14 which is their usual standard price. This of course isn’t a huge discrepancy in cost however that also isn’t the point as had we not noticed - we’d have incurred the full cost (and we did order more than one round of cocktails too!) Finally, despite the fact it was bank holiday, booking a 13:30pm table isn’t a particularly late time however we were told on arrival that there would be no burgers or fish and chips available. We are reasonable people and totally understand that sometimes. these things just happen! But when there are minimal options on the menu and the most popular choices had ran out already we were really shocked as the venue was no where near busy, The staff seemed extremely busy and running around for reasons we couldn’t establish apart from being understaffed. I did not get our waiters name (although you can probably trace it back to the booking reference) he did kindly remove the child’s meal that came out with hard chips from the bill - although he was rude to deal with initially, attempting to silence me twice when approaching him with requests. I’d probably put that down to stress given the general atmosphere in the place that day but it’s still no way to treat paying customers.
A delightful experience. Good quality food and drink at sensible prices. Friendly attentive and courteous service. Jewel in crown are gorgeous views if it’s warm enough to have drinks in garden. Great Illy coffee if u just want refreshments!
Lovely place with great service and great food
Poor quality food compared to previous visits. Also price of food very overpriced. Disgusted that we paid £4 for side salads which were nothing more than a bowl of lettuce leaves. Vegetables also not well prepared. Limited main menu with poor choice also limited dessert choices.
Very friendly man in the restaurant served us.
I had a very enjoyable meal. The steak was excellent quality, and the service was first class. The only improvement I would suggest, is for the menu to have more choice. I don't eat fish so I don't have a huge amount of alternatives.
We stayed over Easter Bank Holiday it wasn’t as good as our first experience there. The reception wasn’t as refined, there was no storage in the room only one robe and one set of towels left. Although this was corrected when asked. Also the hair dryer didn’t work but again was replaced. The wifi wasn’t working at all. The restaurant staff were mainly very young and had no customer service skills and there was only one menu for dinner and the main meal of sirloin steak and Yorkshire pud was instead fatty beef with not much else to eat. The restaurant manager was very pleasant and apologetic but still expected better for the price. Also it seemed that there was a lot of people at the hotel who were only there for meals. The deserts however were 110 percent. The spa was and treatment was wonderful. Just disappointed compared to our first experience when we arrived at 11pm after a late flight in October, we had been given an automatic upgrade to our room, the reception was wonderful and the receptionist couldn’t do enough. For example she spoke to the chef and got us complementary drinks and olives whilst waiting for the bill for alcoholic drinks and then even carried our bar meals of beef brisket with truffle and an amazing burger meal the chef cooked especially for us with coffees to our room, which we then helped her with. The room was amazing and the restaurant staff were knowledgeable. Experience was exceptional. The restaurant manager this time however, did say that due to Easter, the menu was limited, but quality should not suffer, he also said that change was happening. Hopefully our third experience, as we will be visiting again, will be as good as the first.
Good meal Service good Will look for opportunity to have an evening meal
The atmosphere was fantastic and the head waiter and the head waiter was amazing. The food was tasty enough but the prawn/ crayfish salad was v small and lacked crayfish. The soup was more like a pasta sauce. We were a party of 5 and one of our meals was forgotten. The head waiter noticed this after a while. No spoon was given with the tiny bowl of vegetables and we felt that the serving staff were probably inexperienced. We would return; but mostly because of the ambience. £30 / head for a sunday lunch was rather steep.
Friendly and efficient staff
Excellent Hotel. Thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish.
Absolutely fantastic. Service is outstanding & food is exemplary. Staff can never do too much for you. A fabulous place to go for food - a real hidden gem!
Service and food very good
Lovely food, lovely atmosphere, great to have a room to ourselves for my sisters special Birthday. Staff were all fab and very accommodating. If anything the room was very hot but appreciate that there were coolers there ,but they didn’t do a lot. Overall will definitely be back 😄
Excellent evening.Very good food and service. Need to sort out Amex machine in the restaurant. Salvatore was a great asset as usual.
As fans of afternoon tea, we were delighted with the standard (and quantity) of what was provided. In fact, we're already planning our next afternoon out and looking at a spot of dinner too, if the evening menu is anywhere near as good as this was. Well worth it for a special occasion (we added champagne to ours) or just for a nice way to while away an hour or so.
Disappointed that a service charge was automatically added to our bill, this has not happened before.
All staff working on April 1st when we attended were extremely attentive approachable and helpful. Beautiful hotel with a fantastic view and superb selection for afternoon tea. Would definitely come again.
Excellent service and food. Pleasure to dine at Holm House.
Great food and first class service. Staff friendly polite and courteous. Never disappointed - always a pleasant experience
Lovely setting, good quality and value of breakfast
Went to Holm House for Mothers Day Sunday lunch. Really lovely place, the food was great, the service was ok although the staff could have been friendlier. Not the cheapest place for Sunday lunch but worth the trip. When we were leaving I was given a small potted plant for Mothers Day which was such a lovely gesture and really made my day special. I would defiantly recommend Holm House!
Thoroughly enjoyable Mother's Day lunch. Excellent food and lovely ambience. Slightly disappointed with the service initially as they appeared disorganised with starter and drink deliveries to the table. However once we got to main course everything was fine. Would definitely visit again.
