About Holiday Inn Southend, 1935
THE ONLY ROOFTOP RESTAURANT AND BAR IN ESSEX
1935 offers a spectacular dining experience and views to match.
The striking, fully sound-proofed 1935 Rooftop Restaurant and Bar sits atop the five-storey Holiday Inn Southend and takes its name from the year that the airport first opened as a municipal airport for the public.
Not only is this the first rooftop restaurant and bar in Essex, it is also a first for Holiday Inn across the UK. Whilst enjoying dinner & drinks in the evenings or wanting a place for a relaxing Sunday lunch, you will be able to enjoy breath-taking views of the surrounding Essex countryside and perhaps watch a plane taking off or landing at the airport.
Due to the high demand on Fridays & Saturday Nights please ensure you have your dinner reservation confirmed even if you are staying with us.
Afternoon Tea is served Monday to Saturday 14.00 - 16.00
Really good food made our first anniversary very special thank you
The restaurant can be noisy due to the layout & design. The service was a bit slow. Ours was not to bad but we noticed others waiting quite a while, although it was pretty busy, for a Thursday night. The last couple of times I have been there the menu has been limited, i.e. Rosette one unavailable, which is a shame. But overall had a good evening
Took my mum for afternoon tea, asked for some of the sandwiches to be changed & it wasn’t a problem. Lovely afternoon.
We went into the restaurant to see if we could book a table for lunch that same day and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful to get us in,we also asked if we could have a table by the window again nothing was too much trouble. I must say the food was fantastic and £20 for three courses was amazing. The customer service was excellent and will definitely be going back there.
Lovely dinner, great atmosphere
Everything good just a bit tatty in the restaurant. But everything else ok
Lovely food. Waited quite a long time for food to arrive from ordering. Staff very nice, polite and helpful. Hubbie disappointed with his seat in the corner of the window as all he could see was the roof of the shopping centre across the road. Would like to come back again in the evening and hopefully if we book early enough we may get a table with equal views. This was our first visit and will definately be back again.
We came on the first night that the restaurant opened. We still come back- that is all we need to say.
All staff are just the right level of attentive. Yet very personable if you needed anything else. It comes across that the Team enjoy their jobs Recommend:)
Surpassed expectations , and will return
Excellent service. Lovely food. Great views.
We had already decided to come to your restaurant when we found the Groupon deal. If we had paid the £17.50 I would have been very disappointed, the food is just good value. My husband I had the lemon meringue, the pastry was rubbrer hardly any filling it only gave a lemon flavour through lemon sorbet plonked on the top.
Wonderful birthday celebration with my family. Good food friendly service.
Excellent evening as always
The only slight disappointment was that the bar stock ran out of Cointreau and bottles of a particular red wine that our party were drinking. However it did not spoil the evening. Sam the young waiter who organized the table setting was really helpful.
We enjoyed our visit but we're disappointed to note that the menu was unchanged since our last visit at the beginning of April - I assume it changes monthly. I commented on the worn armchairs during our last visit - none seen this time. We enjoyed our visit and will return
We enjoyed a lovely lunch with amazing views and a polite waitress food was delicious and hot.
We dined for my wife’s 30th birthday there was 9 of us including my 10month old son, they set up a lovely are for us with the balcony open so could watch the planes. Food was great and will definitely be coming back soon
We got married at Holiday Inn Southend 4 years ago and we visit the 1935 rooftop restaurant every year on our anniversary for a meal. The food is always excellent with great service from the friendly staff and the atmosphere and the view from the restaurant make it extra special. Highly recommended
We’ve been here a few times and really enjoyed it. This time one of the main meals (chicken club) wasn’t cooked (the chicken was pink) and had to be sent back. It wasn’t charged to us, but still meant that someone was eating alone. The drinks are so expensive - you’d sell more if they were a couple of quid cheaper - the cash profit would be incremental, so maybe try some drink deals (buy 2 glasses, get the bottle free, BOGOHP etc)
First visit mid -week. Great service, food and locally brewed pale ale. The fish and chips was excellent.
Beatiful food great view great service
Booked aftrenoon tea for a mothers day treat for my mum, sister, mother in law etc. we arrived and were seated. at 2.15 we were served tea & coffee. at 2.30 i asked when the sandwiches would be ready to be told that they were being plated up. at 2.45 no sign of anything and spoke to someone else and was told the same thing it was being plated up?? The manager then said an issue with kitchen and but allergy - eventually got afternoon tea at gone 3pm. The waiter dont know his name was so apologetic wasn't his fault. however if there was an issue with the afternoon tea then i wish they would have been honest and we could have just ordered from the lunch menu, instead we were left waiting and asking 3 different people what was happening. a really nice surprise ruined by lack of communication.very disappointing.
