About Holiday Inn Southend, 1935
THE ONLY ROOFTOP RESTAURANT AND BAR IN ESSEX
1935 offers a spectacular dining experience and views to match.
The striking, fully sound-proofed 1935 Rooftop Restaurant and Bar sits atop the five-storey Holiday Inn Southend and takes its name from the year that the airport first opened as a municipal airport for the public.
Not only is this the first rooftop restaurant and bar in Essex, it is also a first for Holiday Inn across the UK. Whilst enjoying dinner & drinks in the evenings or wanting a place for a relaxing Sunday lunch, you will be able to enjoy breath-taking views of the surrounding Essex countryside and perhaps watch a plane taking off or landing at the airport.
Due to the high demand on Fridays & Saturday Nights please ensure you have your dinner reservation confirmed even if you are staying with us.
Afternoon Tea is served Monday to Saturday 14.00 - 16.00
Poor service waiter forgot to order our food blaming it on system error. Couldn’t read menu without a torch, food nothing special. Will not return
My previous changes to booking not updated (changed from 2 to 4 people) although this was dealt with straight away on arrival Ordered an aperitif and disappointed that this was served in a small plastic glass. 2 guests ordered Steak Pie and one was very dry. On requesting more gravy and pouring this onto the meat, found it contained BBQ sauce which ruined the meal. Requested this was mentioned to the chef when the plates were cleared, but did not make any other fuss in front of the other guests with us, who had enjoyed their meal. Having eaten there before with no problem, this was a disappointing meal for one of the guests and would have expected someone to come to the table to apologise.
Excellent views and service. Food was good but wasn’t amazing
Good quality food at very reasonable prices. The staff are interested and attentive. The only negative is that unless you are sitting at one of the front window tables on the carpeted area the rest of the restaurant has a canteen feel about it.
Staff attentive and very welcoming, food was amazing.
We stayed here for the hell of it as my boy loves planes and this hotel looks out over Southend airport. Really nice staff, clean and modern. Apart from the bed being on the small side I can say this is worth a visit if your using the airport or just passing by.
Great atmosphere with great food! Thank you for a lovely evening!
Good range of dishes, friendly service
Was all very enjoyable but I noticed my food didn't exactly match what was offered in the menu and I asked for ice cream and one of the flavours was not one I had asked for.
A wonderful afternoon tea with my mother in law and daughter on Saturday. A great selection of sandwiches and cakes and very polite helpful staff too.
Very enjoyable meal. I think the menu is slightly limited, although what is present is very nice. I also feel it is expensive, however that was nullified by the fact we had half price discount. However. The service was efficient and friendly and timely without being rushed and there is a great atmosphere. Will definitely comeback.
Food and service was good although we both though it was a bit expensive.
As always the meal and service was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We will be back !
I booked a table with yourselves during the Black Friday deal. I booked it for my husbands birthday for the two of us. We arrived and was taken to our table. We were left waiting an extremely long time to order our drinks and then an incredibly long time for it to arrive. Due to the terrible service we only ended up having one drink each despite being there for at least 90 minutes. When we finally received our starters my husband had ordered the Tempura Vegetables. This has a V for vegetarian on the menu yet it had battered squid included. My husband advised the waitress of this and she took the plate with the squid clearly on the plate. Also, the guacamole that came with the fish was brown. The avocado clearly been cut a long time ago and oxidised. There was then a long wait for our mains - it wasn’t busy at all. As it was my husbands birthday I was trying to remain in good spirits but it was getting difficult. When our mains arrived my husbands slaw was brown - again, clearly made some time ago and the avocado was brown in the burger. The onion rings we ordered never arrived and my lamb was minted despite it not being described that way on the menu. It then took forever for a waitress to take our plates away. She asked us if we wanted to see the dessert menu we said we was going to but given we had quite a few things wrong with our meal it’s best we aren’t disappointed with a third course, we’ll just have the bill - there was no apologies or discussion any further. I then waited while she proceeded to clean two tables and go get the glasswear and crockery before bringing over the bill. I was starting to feel very unwell and needed to leave immediately otherwise I would of discussed this further. Despite receiving 50% off the bill I didn’t think I would expect much from the food but even paying 50% was too much as the food we were served did not seem worth it at all. I was really disappointed and it put a dampener on my husbands birthday.
Lovely situation overlooking landings and take offs from the airport, with pleasant, unobtrusive and efficient service
We had an amazing lunch yesterday. Thank you so much. Everything from our initial enquiry, through to service, food and just the around experience was magnificant. It is such a lovely setting, and as a large party of 19 - the service and attention to detail we could not fault. Special mention to Sam, Beth and Sharron who looked after us. Thank you.
A really lovely place and the staff were very friendly and attentive.
Very good, enjoyed our boxing day lunch immensely.
It was my 65th birthday on boxing day and had a lovely meal and service was excellent very helpful staff xx
Restaurant was quiet when we visited. Service was polite and friendly. Sunday roast is always nicely cooked and presented. Areas to improve- Cauliflower cheese needs some work as a little watery and the chocolate tart was not nice. That said we had a nice afternoon and will be back in the New Year!!
Poor service, kept forgetting things. I asked for a drinks menu, nothing came. Wife asked for more gravy, nothing came. Starters were good but main was very poor. It looked and tasted like a school dinner. Not fresh produce at all, it was warmed up frozen food.
As usual - great food, great service and friendly staff! Thank you -hope to see you again soon.
