About Hole In The Wall
Hole in the Wall dates as far back as 1651, the medieval Inn was then called 'Ye sign of ye Blackhorse Inn'. It was enjoyed historically as a coaching house and as a tavern.
Today, driving along Blackhorse Avenue you will catch sight of the imposing Tudor style exterior of the Hole in the Wall, first impressions
are lasting. It is exactly 100 metres long qualifying it as the longest pub in Europe.
This pub nestles against the Phoenix park wall. It combines the merits of a Dublin cosmopolitan city pub with the pure, fresh air and amenities of the 1700 acre Phoenix Park. This makes it a unique destination pub in Dublin to visit.
Hole in the Wall has a rare mixture of antiquity and character throughout, attention to detail has always been paramount. Everything has been carefully selected to compliment the ambience that characterises the pub, with roaring fires in the winter months adding to its atmosphere, and a beer garden in summertime to chill and relax.
Hole in the Wall gastro-pub offers a daily fresh extensive menu. The Wine shop has a splendid selection of world wines where one can carefully choose their wine with free corkage to drink, enjoy and compliment their food. The Hole in the Wall staff and team aim to achieve a blend of hospitality, friendliness and efficiency, and we trust that your visit with us will be very enjoyable and a good experience.
Fantastic atmosphere and service as always.Reserved another table for this Saturday before we left as I just love the food around the fire and will miss the Christmas decor!
Always guaranteed a tasty meal, nice ambience and good service at the Hole in the Wall. We are lucky to be able to walk to this gem of a pub in Dublin.
Service was terrible. Placed order at 7.45. Starter came within 10 minutes but at 9.15 we had to request main course. Waiter tried to fob us off by saying we didn’t let them know we had finished starters???!!!
We were brought to our table but weren't given any menus by the waiter..We waited 10 minutes before we were given any..No water brought to the table either..Food was very good though and the decorations are amazing.
Excellent. Will Definitely be back soon.
We have a lovely lunch and the christmas decoration are incredible
Very satisfactory but Shank of Lamb could have been better than what I had expected. Starter of Spiced Wings really top class.
Had a lovely birthday lunch. Top class food and service.
Always a favourite around Christmas time, food was amazing and the atmosphere was even better!
Excellent Sunday lunch
I booked weeks in advance for a pre-Christmas dinner with my family visiting from the Philippines. I requested for a booth but did not think much of it as I knew it was a busy period and would have been happy with any table. When we arrived for our 12pm reservation, we were assisted immediately and brough to our own section, like a mini room with a booth! It was a pleasant surprise and my family loved it. The owner dropped by our table a couple of times to chat and tell us some history about the place. The staff kept checking if we needed anything and service was fast. Food was great and presented well. All in all a great experience!
staff could be more attentive when arriving and leaving. table staff really lovely.
Great food and friendly service. Christmas decorations are always brilliant.
Super cosy and fab atmosphere
I ate at this pub with 3 other people on New Years Day. The place looks great and there is a good menu, however the service was terrible. We were waiting ages to be served, then only two dishes arrived. We eventually had to ask about the other two and they came when the rest of us were halfway through our food. One of the dishes was still wrong. A waiter tried to bring us the wrong drinks too. The staff seem unable to cope with orders and there is no coordination between them.
Excellent food and service
Had a reservation months in advance and had to pay €130 to secure the booking, made it very clear we needed to leave by certain time to make an event, they had time wrong a few times on email and I confirmed the correct time 3 or 4 times. When we got there, they had the wrong time and we had to wait in a squashed hallway with waiters walking back with pod, with 2 small children. We were then sat in the wine cellar, and had to keep calling staff for attention. We were late leaving for our event also. The food was ok but nothing to write home about, wasn’t great. Been going to the hole in the wall every year at Xmas for the last few hrs and last yr was not great either and service both yrs not good, everyone in our family agreed. Don’t know if would return to it to be honest, disappointing!
My family and I had a great experience experience at the Hole in the Wall. We all really enjoyed ourselves! The food was exceptional and the staff our particular waiter was fantastic! One thing that could of benefited our group would have been some activity sheets and crayons for the children. We will definitely be back again! We will be better prepared next time!!
Thank you for making our New Year's Eve brilliant! We had heard great reports about the Pub and it excelled our expectations. The Staff were so friendly & efficient despite being so busy. Our food was fab and a great menu, the atmosphere was lovely, bubbly and so child friendly We will definitely be back. Thanks again
Lovely Christmas experience but was slightly disappointed about being sat sown the very back next to the food counter when I had made a reservation 2 months in advance. Overall a lovely spot..great food and staff.
Food was exceptional and hats off to the chef to please adults & kids palates. But the cleanliness and service let the venue down. We had napkins, smarties & a childs red hairband under our table & neighbouring tables floor as messy. We placed the childs hair band in the brand gin bottle on our table to see if this would bring attention to our table & to take our drink order to no avail ! The toilets badly needed to be swept. We were really excited to visit the hole in the wall, driving for over an hour & so disappointed with the service. We were provided with water at the table, at no point asked if we would like a drink, given the wrong menu & only when we were ready to leave & asked for the bill, we were advised the children had a dessert included in their meal. At this point we were then given a more varied menu to choose a dessert from. This was so disappointing as we would have chosen a more varied meal to start. The attention & service provided was very poor. The venue wasn't exceptionally busy which would allow for staff run off their feet. It would be worth the owners reviewing trip advisor reviews which unfortunately are not great dating back, please listen & act on the reviews. Honestly if we had read trip advisor prior to booking we wouldn't have travelled. Again this really let's the chef down.
Very friendly staff
We had a great time. Food was lovely, it’s very well decorated for Christmas, staff were lovely
