Lovely afternoon tea the sandwiches and scones were delicious
I took my parents for afternoon tea which they loved. I felt it was very expensive for what we received. I'm glad I had the experience but I don't plan to repeat it. However on our way out we received a booklet with upcoming events which i will definitely take the family too in the future. The staff were very professional, polite and extremely helpful and the premises were lovely but I think the experience could benefit from some soft background music. It was a bit like sitting in a library
A lovely relaxed lunch with time to sit and chat.
Unfortunately the lunch service was moved to the Drawing Room. Completely understandable in view of the number of bookings, but we won't be returning until things are back to normal.
Great service and excellent food
Restaurant is tatty and dowdy. Why give nice napkins and no tablecloth but awful tables. We were given a small 2 person table stuck in a corner. We were unable to face each other. My sea bass was very nice but the chicken Caesar salad was limp and lacking in decent croutons. Very oily. The staff were pleasant but not what I would expect from a venue like this. They didn't really know what they were doing. Very slow. TRAIN TOUR STAFF!! Your table d'hote was ineffectively priced whereby u could chose 2 a la carte and pay less!! Very amateur.
I have not given any stars to atmosphere as it was early on a Monday and not busy so difficult to judge. However as everything else with our visit was excellent I’m sure next time the overall score will be highly positive.
An excellent meal and good value. The room is a little austere and unwelcoming when it isn't very busy.
A perfect place to go for a special meal. Stylish surroundings, great service and lovely food at sensible prices.
Very tasty dishes and attentive friendly staff
The host Nikki was so lovely and went out of her way to make us feel so welcome. It was my mums birthday and she made her feel so special. Thank you very much, a really memorable occasion
An enjoyable afternoon Good service and very nice food
Anne was a superb host
Our daughter treated my wife and I to afternoon tea and we all enjoyed wonderful sandwiches, scones and cakes. Our grandson accompanied us and he loved the sandwiches we ordered for him and one of his mum’s cakes. Outstanding service from the waitress.
Went for afternoon tea. The actual tea and cakes were ok. The restaurant could do with a good lick of paint and an update though. Even a nice white tablecloth on the table would have been nice. It just felt overpriced for what you got. And then 2 lots of service charges on the bill? Couldn’t understand that?
I used to come quite regularly when I worked nearby, but haven't been for a while. I seem to recall that tables were properly laid with tablecloths before, and there were complimentary warm rolls - neither the case now. Service was very slow. The six small prawns of my starter took half an hour to arrive, and there was another long wait for our mains. My wife enjoyed her trout as I did my chicken. She was very pleased with her panna cotta which came nicely garnished with almonds and icing sugar. I had an "americano" coffee while my wife had her dessert which I had hoped would have been made using the espresso machine visible near the entrance, but had evidently been stewing in a cona pot for some time judging by the taste. The serving staff were good, I just marked down service for being so slow.
All the staff was really friendly and helpful. The food, especially the sandwiches, was also very nice. My only disappointment was the hotel décor. This is an amazing building but the wallpaper and carpet look like they haven't been updated since the 80s. Even the toilets could do with a lick of paint. Such a shame as doing this hotel up would bring in more custom especially for Afternoon Tea.
Great service despite the restaurant appearing to be short-staffed
A very pleasant experirience . We look forward to dining with you again in the near future. .
Good service and excellent value great for an informal birthday lunch . Very attentive and hard working waiting staff.
I found the lunch time menu to be excellent value. The staff were very friendly and courteous and overall the experience was superb
The food was amazing, however the service was not so good. We had to wait 45mins for our starter then a further 40 for our main course. The waitresses were brilliant however additional kitchen staff might be needed.
Sunday lunch was lovely with a great choice of dishes for each course, beautifully cooked and presented. The wine we chose was excellent too. The only comment I would make is to request a set-price option for two courses as well as for three. The dessert was lovely, but a couple of us were a bit full after starter and main courses.....
Excellent service as usual and value for money.. will certainly make a return visit.
Service was excellent but we were disappointed with coffee and tea served. Although coffee was changed for us it was very a very strange colour but tasted ok, tea was quite weak. We were served in the restaurant and felt that previously having afternoon tea in the library in the main house was much more pleasant.
