All staff encountered were very helpful and attentive, food was delicious and recommend the Pinot Grigio!
Food was really nice and the service was excellent.
The food was excellent and service was attentive, but not intrusive. Perfect.
We've been to Greyfriars for afternoon tea on several occasions and it's always felt like a very special occasion. Unfortunately, this time round, it was somewhat lacking. The service, whilst polite, was very slow and seemed a little inexperienced. We took our table at 1.30 but had to wait half an hour until our tea turned up. We ordered a bottle of champagne which didn't turn up until our sandwiches had arrived. Our savoury scones turned up without the butter which again we had to wait some time for. Although these are not major problems, we have had such excellent service in the past that these little things seemed to stand out. It certainly wouldn't stop us coming back but maybe a bit more attention to detail on the service side wouldn't go a miss.
We held our Christmas party at Greyfriars but unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations. To our surprise, there was no Turkey on the menu and no Christmas crackers! Our meal was nice and we did receive good service. The restaurant was empty so there was not any Christmas atmosphere resulting in a very disappointing experience. Unfortunately, we won’t be going back.
The gentlemen’s afternoon tea was very enjoyable and made a nice change from the usual menu.
We had a celebration tea for our mother on her 100th birthday, for 30 people, booked well in advance. We couldn’t get into the room until later than booked and then the service was pretty slow. I had to ask for things to get going as one young family had a train to catch, booked on the premise of a 3.30 start. The truffle butter appeared too late, and on some tables not at all. It was a pleasant afternoon but not as smoothly executed as we’d expect from this type of hotel. We always enjoy a cocktail here, after a walk into town, and the bar is very well managed but didn’t think this, nor the arranging of it, was, sadly.
Food was great and we love the venue. Service was friendly however we were still waiting for our main courses at gone 10pm when out table was booked for 8.30. Apart from this, we had a fantastic evening.
The food is delicious, and service is always impeccable. Will definitely be coming back again.
Absolutely amazing. Loved it. Thank you
Amazing service, so accomdating with like a and dislikes, best afternoon tea in town
We LOVE Greyfriars, we are local residents, we have stayed over and eaten and had office functions with you. We LOVE IT
LOVELY SETTING, AND THE FOOD WAS DELIGHTFUL.OUR MAIN PROBLEM WAS THE WAITER WHO SHOWED US TO OUR TABLE WAS NOT SEEN AFTER THAT AND WE BELIEVE HIS SHIFT HAD FINISHED AND NOBOBDY ELSE IT SEEMS WAS ASSIGNED TO LOOK AFTER US...WE HAD A JOB GETTING ANOTHER ASSISTANT TO HAVE A TOP UP OF TEA DONE..IT DID DETRACT FROM THE AFTERNOON.
We’ve been several times and we’ve never been disappointed, from the moment you arrive everything is perfect, from the reception, room to the restaurant. We will be back, congratulations on making our stay perfect, this hotel special.
Wonderful service from Luis in the bar and Drew in the Rose room for afternoon tea. The best afternoon tea in Colchester, great value and the food is of a higher standard than The Dorchester and The Savoy in London in my opinion. Fabulous!
Delicious sandwiches and cakes, friendly service.
A massive thank you to all the staff. They were exemplary. Every time we come here the food and service are excellent. Couldn't fault a thing.
Delicious food and plenty of it. Staff were helpful, polite and knowledgeable. It was a lovely treat for my husbands birthday. We had a fantastic time. Thank you.
Gary and team were superb!
Excellent meal the beef wellington was delicious
I think the only thing lacking was a bit of music but everything else was lovely! Afternoon tea was delicious
Our table was not ready even though we were the first booking/no one was on the table before us. This was disappointing! We had also booked in advance.
Fantastic stay with excellant food. Great service from the staff.
We had a great night
I have to say firstly the food and service was brilliant. Sadly I was extremely disappointed with the location of our table. When I booked I asked for a window seat. I was informed a week before that this was no longer possible but we would still have a lovely table. Our table was probably in the worst location in the whole restaurant. We were sat right next to the kitchen door. It was noisy and every time the kitchen door opened there was a cold draught. Also the music speaker was situated right behind us and quite loud. I’m pleased to say the waiter did turn it down for us. We also had the nuisance of a side board directly behind us which the waiters were continually using to move food to different tables and constantly trying to squeeze behind us to get into the cupboard, It was to say in the least very annoying. This was a special occasion for my daughter and was a surprise for her, the staff were very aware of this before our arrival. I wasn’t very happy at all. One of the waiters did say this table is the worst situated table. I also noted that there was a suitable table in the window which was not in use during our entire stay. Why could we not have had that? What should have been a lovely family afternoon Tea was a big disappointment to me and my family. I would like to try it again but I can assure you if I was put on that table again I would not stay. I did complain to a female member of staff and she did say it would be passed on to management. It would have been nice to have been recompensed in some way.
