Cloisters is found in the early C20th part of the building. With a definite Art Deco feel, you will find the seating so comfortable, the atmosphere so relaxing, that you will not want lunch or dinner to end!
Here, modern European dishes are given a superior British touch. Ingredients are sourced as locally as possible and include Oysters from Mersea Island, Newbridge Mill Farm, Lexden beef, Dingley Dell pork and East Anglian vegetables. Accompanied by our carefully picked wines and seamless impeccable service, you will wish to return very soon. Open 7 days a week for Lunch and Dinner
Love this place 💗
We enjoyed a lovely meal although a little bit expensive. My only criticism is 2 of our party ordered the dessert of rice pudding. They expected this to be a traditionally hot dessert but it was served cold. This was not shown as such on the menu and the waiter did not alert us to this either, so it was a disappointed and they would have chosen an alternatives
Really nice afternoon tea in warm comfortable suroundings served by very pleasant staff the food was very good. I would certainly go again and would reccommend this venue
Superb. Lovely food - lots of info from charming waiter Charlie about local origins of produce. Gorgeous touch in form of complimentary truffles from chef with ‘congratulations’ written in delicious chocolate sauce decorating plate. (Celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary), Will recommend and return ASAP. Also fabulous venue with intriguing historical background- hidden gem !
A wonderful meal in a lovely setting in the heart of Colchester.
Had a lovely experance food was amazing. Only criticism is we asked for the traditional tea then were served with the festive one, but was lovely anyway
Food and drink at meal were excellent. Very good wheelchair access. Main gates to car Park didn’t open for several minutes. Pre dinner drink service was shambolic - our party of 5 were moved three times and drinks delayed.
Disaster. Reservation was made by staff for the wrong day. Reservation was put in for Friday instead of Sat. Contacted Friday pm by Michael (operations manager) my reservation was unable to be honoured. I am disgusted at my treatment. I have visited on a few occasions before but this visit was for my wife's birthday. I will take a lot of pursueding to attend in the future
Lovely service x
We all loved it! X
Lovely food, good service.
Had a lovely family afternoon tea to get us in the Christmas spirit and it certainly worked. We had been before which is why we were eager to come back. The food is perfect and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back soon.
I regularly visit this restaurant and as always it's an amazing place to eat. Wonderful time Many thanks
The restaurant has improved so much over the years, excellent food and presentation! However the service staff still need a better attention to detail and in an establishment like yours wine should be served when required and not left for the guests to serve themselves. On our last visit we were served but this time as in previous visits we were not.
We had a fabulous afternoon tea for a group of 10 of us! Food and service were great and our private room was beautiful!! Given the quality of everything it was really good value for money! Highly recommend!
Extremely good service as per usual and requesting feedback on new menu. Lovely place for family afternoon tea with my daughters. You cope easily with a vegetarian, pescatarian and two ordinary ones too. Slight confusion on booking this time but quickly clarified. Tried others, yours best!
A special thanks to Charlie who looked after us, he was knowledgeable, competent, kind, considerate and attended to all our requirements
Great historic building, excellent service, food quality in the Restaurant can be upgraded.Very satisfied as a total accomodation !
We absolutely love Greyfriars, the food and wine, the ambience and especially the staff who will ensure your dining experience is a memorable one. Very highly recommended, well done!
What a lovely evening. The food was excellent. The staff were very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. If you have never been you must go.
Very good venue for our regular meetings. Staff very attentive and food and drink lovely.
Warm, friendly welcome. Lovely dinner setting in the Rose room. Very prompt and attentive service. Well timed pauses between courses. Food was excellent. However we ordered the Pheasant and received the Halibut, but didn't matter as the Halibut was delicious. Overall it was a fantastic experience.
The staff are very thorough, accommodating, polite and friendly. We did not want for anything whilst we had lunch at GreyFriars as we were asked throughout if we needed any top ups (afternoon tea) and the staff were professional and helpful. This is the second time I have been to GreyFriars, and both times the experience has been great.
Lovely afternoon tea (both classic & gentlemans)
