Cloisters is found in the early C20th part of the building. With a definite Art Deco feel, you will find the seating so comfortable, the atmosphere so relaxing, that you will not want lunch or dinner to end!
Here, modern European dishes are given a superior British touch. Ingredients are sourced as locally as possible and include Oysters from Mersea Island, Newbridge Mill Farm, Lexden beef, Dingley Dell pork and East Anglian vegetables. Accompanied by our carefully picked wines and seamless impeccable service, you will wish to return very soon. Open 7 days a week for Lunch and Dinner
Great Food and Service.
Lovely afternoon, very professional. Would be even better if you did the Sunday roast again 🤗
Lunch time snacks on the Patio Unbeatable ! Great Food ! Excellent Service ! We will be back soon
Shocking service. Booked a table for 9pm outdoors on the terrace - after 10 minutes of confusion around the booking (I had the email confirmation of the booking but the host refused to look at it), we were finally seated and then waited until 9:55pm to receive our first round of drinks. We had to chase multiple times just for that first round, and then had to do the same for every subsequent round - we ended up ordering two drinks at a time because we knew we wouldn't be seeing the waiting staff for a long time between visits. The servers didn't seem to want us there, and were very rude. The excuse for the poor service was that they were "really busy", but of around 20 outdoor tables there were only ever 4 or 5 occupied between 9pm and 1am when we left. They were clearly understaffed (told 2 x half pints of Peroni would take at least 15 mins) but that could have been excused if the staff were more accommodating or communicative. Overall a terrible experience.
After booking a reservation for the restaurant we were asked to either sit in the bar or on the terrace where people were smoking and boozing. After a bit of a fuss and it being unacceptable, half an hour went by before we were put in a room where other couples had been given the same spiel, with a click clackety door and a rather unimpressive visit all round. Food was lovely but the management did not care at all that they had clearly overbooked the restaurant. This made us late for our next reservation which cost us £40
Booked the restaurant but turned up and was told it was full. service was slow and they forgot cutlery for our desert. waitress kept bothering us more than was needed. I booked this for a romantic meal out. thank you for not making it so
We really enjoyed our meal. My only criticism is the wine. I am always sad to see supermarket wine on offer in a nice restaurant especially when the price is so marked up. I believe it's much better for wines to be sourced direct from an independent merchant. Regards Ginny
Excellent- the whole experience was fabulous, would highly recommend.
Impeccable service cannot fault anything about my experience in Greyfriars thanks again
Really lovely dinner in Cloisters on the first open evening after lockdown. Food on the whole was excellent, with a great choice of starters and mains, all cooked and presented well. Meal was slightly spoiled by the selection of ice cream desserts. Child portion and adult portion were exactly the same but priced differently, and both were rather meagre with rock hard biscuit pieces at the bottom of the dish.
So happy to be back after such a long time. Thank you for the lovely hospitality.
I very much appreciated the idea of changing our Mothers Day booking to a take away service, but the reality of it was a huge disappointment. When we unpacked our afternoon tea and saw how much food we had for nearly £88 it was a huge disappointment. Small sandwiches and not many - no other savoury treats. Nice scones, but a tiny amount of cream and jam. Nice cakes, but tiny and ONE tea bag each! It could have been so lovely with a little more care and attention, or a more realistic price.
I appreciated the fact that I was given a voucher from my previous afternoon tea visit which I could utilise for this visit.
May I suggest a little bit of soft background music in your Rose Room for the traditional afternoon tea.
Could not fault our dining experience. Full marks!
Room excellent, food excellent, service excellent. I cant rate it higher
Really lovely champagne afternoon tea as a birthday celebration gift
At Grey Friars you are always made to feel special, the service was exceptional. We had an amazing afternoon tea, second to none. Thank you very much. We will visit again.
Wonderful afternoon tea early an mothers day & birthday celebration, my visit was let down by being presented with a dirty lipstick stained cup that the waitress quickly exchanged with current corona virus concerns this is was very dissapointing....maybe a need to review hygiene issues! Low star rating is purely because of this not the wonderful food or service
A very enjoyable, excellent value for money, bar snack supper with my Granddaughter. In a comfortable, relaxed setting. Diana
We had a lovely afternoon tea,the waitress was very attentive and helpful explaining the various teas available and also the sandwiches. We were so full we couldn’t eat the cakes which we bought home in a doggie bag. No complaints I would recommend to anyone-a special treat !!
Superb meal in a lovely venue. Service and food are amazingly good.
We had a wonderful time and the cream tea was perfect. The staff where great very helpful and attentive. I would recommend you to all my friends.
Plastic found in beef wellington.
All of the staff were lovely, attentive and caring. Enjoyed afternoon tea here late Sunday afternoon, we were not rushed and every staff member we come across was superb! It was my birthday so my friends bought me presents, the waiter saw this and had the chef write a 'happy birthday' message on a plate with some petti-fours, which was such a pleasant, lovely touch! I recommend Greyfriars to everyone!
