About Greens

Description brought to you by Manchester Confidential:

Greens is the flagship vegetarian restaurant of TV chef, Simon Rimmer and both Rimmer and the restaurant have a loyal following, even if the cooking brings to mind the early 1990s, when the restaurant opened to huge acclaim. Cheese-imbued soft and herby vegetarian sausages are particularly good, as is the black pudding, smoked cheese and spinach puff pastry parcel served with white onion puree. This is the kind of place that’s would still serve roulade as a special, but don’t let that put you off, as the woody room oozes a charm that only the best neighbourhood restaurants can pull off. Starters and desserts wow; dishes like Crispy kale with Lancashire Parlick Fell cheese, tamarind dressing and roasted beets or lemon posset with orange blossom shortbread are near perfect. Curries are less impressive so stick to veggie classics and a choice from the imaginative cellar. Service is as accomplished as it should be at this reliable favourite.

Review by Manchester Confidential's Ruth Allan
Being one of the few quality meat-free outlets in the region, Greens appeals both to vegetarians and their flesh mangling mates who feel like a change. This coupled with the fact that, as far as I’m aware, followers of the world’s main religions have few issues with broccoli or harissa, means Rimmer does a booming trade, as evidenced by an expansion not so long ago to a capacity of around 60 covers. It also helps that for a vegetarian restaurant it’s smart too with an art-filled interior with big windows and clean lines.
