About The Great hall and Restaurant at Ellenborough Park
Book now to enjoy Afternoon Tea in either the Great Hall or the Restaurant at Ellenborough Park
Our very first visit to this beautiful hotel for an afternoon tea. The whole experience was just lovely from the delicious food to the excellent service and fabulous surroundings. We will have no hesitation returning in fact I am currently looking at dates for an overnight stay.. Thank you..
Always enjoy my visits to Ellenborough Park, such yummy food and friendly staff. A beautiful hotel.
I can not rave enough about the afternoon tea experience. More than that though was the customer service received from Johnathan I think it was- very tall with brown reddish hair. He was just superb and all his recommendations were spot on. Great job, great day.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon tea, just slightly spoilt by the fact job interviews were being held on the balcony and the conversation was clearly audible. The service was excellent and the waitress was very professional and attentive. It was certainly a very special place
One of the party walks with a stick and we found the availability of disabled parking very poor. We drove to the reception but the spaces there were filled and not designated disabled. We drove to the back and parked in a disabled space but then had to walk through the back of the hotel through to the reception which had many sets of steps.
Superb afternoon tea, excellent service with a smile!!
Very expensive at £28 per person, not sure we had over £50 worth of food! Sandwiches, scone and 4 tiny cakes!
Nice stay, afternoon tea was good great service from the waiter👍
Very well made and presented afternoon tea, however service lacking of attention, possibly due to understaffed hotel as that time as only one person was managing the room.
This was such a lovely experience. Jonathan was waiting on us and is and absolute credit to your team. Nothing was too much trouble, really friendly and helpful. Especially after the Cheltenham race week, I imagine you are all ready for a break. I would recommend more cream and jam On the afternoon tea stands. But that would be my only observation. We will be back. Many thanks Will chappell
Outstanding service from our waiter which I have to say made it. Jonathan was fantastic! An absolute star, warm, friendly, kind and also respectful. Perhaps a few more sandwiches and a chocolate treat to improve it.
Our waiter (the freelance man in the light grey suit - sorry, we didn’t get his name!) on Friday 8 March was outstanding. He was friendly, jovial, polite and a wonderful host at The Horse Box. And at breakfast too! The food at The Horse Box was superb. Almost all the waiting staff (and reception staff) were wonderful, but another standout was Sotiris, our waiter on Saturday afternoon for afternoon tea. He was exceptional. We overheard that he had to cover the room on his own and he did a remarkable job, considering - never faltered and always friendly and polite. We were told to wait by another colleague for our booking and waited too long (think the other colleague forgot about us) but Sotiris more than made up for it. He was dedicated and kind, and even offered us a glass of fizz for the inconvenience. £28pp is quite a lot for afternoon tea (a small selection of finger foods) no matter how fancy the place, and freebies or swaps perhaps would have been nice. The sweets weren’t to our taste at all, but the sandwiches, scones and teas were great.
Very atmospheric and beautiful surroundings. Food amazing
Sandwiches were average and some were slightly dry, but the cakes, and particularly scones, were good. Despite saying on our reservation that one of our group did not eat red meat, which was repeated by our waitress on arrival, she was served a ham sandwich. Surprised the waitress did not bother to check if we wanted more tea, we had to ask. Heavily over-priced for what we received.
We choose Ellenborough Park for a higher level of service and attentiveness, but unfortunately the higher price tag didn’t reflect this. While the food was lovely, we all felt the service fell very short! We arrived and were told we booked for 9 people which wasn’t the case. I had booked for 4 guests and then changed it last week to 5 guests. We waited 45 minutes for our drinks, an hour for our food. We were then left on our own until we left , nobody came to check we were ok & if we wanted more drinks etc. We would have ordered another round of coffees but nobody came. Therefore we eventually left and paid our bill. I told the girl on the desk I wasn’t happy, but she just shrugged and wasn’t interested. Such a shame!! We were al left very disappointed!
Had a lovely afternoon tea with two girlfriends yesterday. Food was delicious and very accommodating with dietary requirements. Excellent selection of teas and a choice of infusions was a nice touch. Although we weren't in any rush service was rather slow with only 2 staff serving a full complement if customers. Get this right and I would have given a higher rating. Great hall and the minstrels gallery are a lovely setting but would have preferred to be sat at a proper table
Jonathan was amazing top service from him 👍🏻 Friendly and professional thankyou
I have had afternoon tea with you on a couple of occasions which I have always enjoyed , hence me rebooking for my friends birthday, but we were both very disappointed with the selection of cakes this time, when having afternoon tea I expect cakes like brownies, carrot cake, Victoria sponge etc, not macaroons and cakes that I didn’t recognise! We thought it was very poor for the cost. I will not be rebooking again.
This was our second visit and sadly not nearly as enjoyable as our first was in the Summer. We did, as I had requested on line, get a wheelchair friendly spot for my disabled Mother and the staff were very friendly. Unfortunately the afternoon tea fell short of our expectations. The sugar bowl only had a few cubes of white sugar and no tongs, the tea itself was very weak, after 5 cups only one tea leaf in the strainer! Half of the sandwiches had very little filling and there was one small dish of cream and jam for four scones, not nearly sufficient. The biggest disappointment was the dessert /cakes. The battenburg was very nice but there were two vividly coloured, red and green soggy meringue creations with sugary filling that I left after one bite. Our Summer visit we enjoyed a lemon, chocolate and cheesecake creation which had elevated Ellenborough to our number one place for afternoon tea in the Cotswalds. On this particular visit when I had flown over from The States to help my Mother celebrate her 86th Birthday I found myself apologising to her for her Birthday tea falling far below our expectations and googling other options for afternoon tea in The Cotswalds. Beautiful venue and lovely room. I ordered coffee rather than tea and expected a pot but received a cup and kept asking for another. The staff didn’t ask if we wanted top ups which was a shame. This did not affect us but we felt that it should have been explained that we can have more if we like and we should have been asked
More savoury would be better All tea set matching and not just plain white
Would have been nice to be informed that the table by fire ,which we had booked, was not available before we arrived. I had rung twice before arriving to check we could have that table aand was assured we could ,only to find they had given it to some other people when we arrived.
A beautiful afternoon tea in a wonderful setting of the great hall. Excellent choice of teas, sandwiches and scones were lovely as was the choice of sweet treats. Service was second to none. Jonathan was wonderfully attentive.
Sat by a roaring fire on a cold snowy afternoon was a treat along with great service and food. The extras of a Tupperware container to take cake home was splendid.
Beautiful setting for a special occasion. The staff were very attentive and went the extra mile.
