About Grand Hotel
The 1881 Restaurant is situated perfectly and commands some superb bay sea views. Our Restaurant is a full dining 4 star AA Rossette awarded. Our chefs use locally sourced produce and have a good understanding of the seasons, meaning you only get the best quality ingredients. We do use a number of ingredients that are classed as allergens, however our teams are highly trained to work with these to make sure you are safe in the knowing when you dine with us. Whilst we can’t 100% guarantee that the dish is allergen-free, we have most definitely made the process safer, giving you more confidence and reassurance.
We felt the food was a little expensive for the standard provided.
would like to see table cloths but understand why not
Regular visits over the last 11 years and yet to be disappointed. To return to our wedding venue on our anniversary was very special. Thank you.
As always a memorable stay Wonderful service ,everything perfect
Had the salmon dish which was lovely and well presented. The crumble and creme brûlée were excellent. Portion size was just right . Had a bootle of red wine which I thought was over priced compared to other restaurants. Overall a good dining experience.
We have had a very pleasant and relaxing stay which we set out to do. Loved the room which we will be booking again in the future. Staff were excellent and service was very good. Well done.
We would like to say a huge thank you for such an amazing stay ! The room was fantastic and the sea view was a lovely surprise ! Both breakfast and evening meal were to the highest standard and ALL staff were exceptional !
Very impressed with the friendly and helpful staff, and the meal was exceptional too. It was my Son's birthday and received a complementary drink.
Very impressed with the friendly and helpful staff, especially with the safety restrictions due to the pandemic, and the meal was exceptional too. As it was my Son's birthday, the Hostess was kind enough to have the pianist play Happy Birthday.
Booked a suite and very impressed with the accommodation provided however the customer service at the hotel was appalling !! The hotel staff need urgent training , not at all customer focused or attentive . Had to leave the restaurant after 1hr 20 mins as no sign of any main meals and needed to feed our daughter before 10pm , when complaining we were given lots of excuses including a slow new chef but no genuine apology . One member of staff even said “oh shut it “ under their breath when we noting our dissatisfaction. Despite reassurance from the manager our meals would be refunded they remained on our bill at check out . The bar staff were supposed to provide table service but we had to go to the bar every time to ask for drinks due to their inability to look after their guests with only a few people in the bar , also overheard a barmaid being rude to a lady customer when she asked for something the bar did not provide . Breakfast took over an hour even though pre ordered and had to ask three times for a replacement cup due to being presented with a dirty one . All in all a really bad experience and I certainly would not recommend this hotel to anyone . When talking to other guests they appear to have had the same experience with one family waiting over one and a half hours for breakfast the day before !! Plenty of staff but no idea , not sure how they can call it 4 star .
Slow service. Long wait before asked if we would like a drink. And couldn't have a proper conversation because of loud electric piano music. Food was ok, but nothing very special. Overall disappointing
Carpet in room was a little stained, hall ways a little tired but I appreciate it’s been very difficult at present, I have left my partner’s decorating card at the desk should you require any works in the future 😊
Poor service coldxandvin need of an over all room depressing papercpealibgvoff walls and paint work flaking off totally miserable.over priced food service terrible breakfast cold and service dreadful.sorry but will not return.
Superb management of a Hotel under very hard times. Well done and thanks to all the hotel staff we had a wonderful time
Very clean, delicious food, and friendly atmosphere.
The food was overpriced and not well cooked. The chicken was undercooked in the pie and the lamb was dry and overcooked. The fish was bland with an excessively greasy batter and the salmon was tasteless- surprising so close to the sea. In the fact the salmon dish came out without the salmon initially but the waitress spotted it and took the dish back. The rose wine tasted watered down and the whole meal was a disappointment for £114 For 4 people. The service was fairly benign and there were no niceties. We ate at the beefeater down the road the following day and this was altogether a much more pleasant experience.
Staff were really good. Great reception and welcome. Waitress very good. Food disappointing eg bruschetta served straight from the fridge and consequently very cold. Dining room, (Breakfast room normally?) rather soulless and unwelcoming. Not the dining area I was expecting. Idea has got legs but needs a it of TLC
Took my mum for afternoon tea for her 70th birthday. The staff made us feel so welcome and my mum loved every minute thankyou .
The staff in the bar area and restaurant area were so welcoming and made it really special for us. The gentleman on the keyboard created a nice atmosphere too which was a nice touch.
We really enjoyed our afternoon tea and the beautiful view. It was my mums 91st birthday and she really enjoyed it.
I came for afternoon tea which on getting the bill I thought was very expensive when compared to Sunday lunch or one of your evening entertainment packages. Love the hotel entrance, restaurant and service from the staff. Can't fault this. The afternoon tea sandwiches were average, as were the savouries. However I would love to come back but just not for afternoon tea.
Lovely view lovely food and very good service
It was a very pleasant stay - everyone was so accommodating and more than helpful - The experience at this hotel was a lot better than our stay at The Falmouth in August
Second time at The Grand. Food every bit as good as ever (and I mean as good or better than you’ll get at good restaurants). Lovely few days and Tracy and the team looked after us so well. The staff here really do go the extra mile and are genuinely welcoming, friendly and helpful throughout. We had the dog with us (one of the main reasons we chose the hotel first time), and recommend 100% for dog owners, you’ll enjoy no end with your dog at your side at all times. We’ll be back, and Hector is so looking forward to it! Many thanks for a lovely stay.
