About Grainstore Restaurant
With its relaxed bistro feel and friendly environment, the Grainstore at The Brewery is a great place to be. Whether you are seeing friends, off to a show or simply popping in for an after-work treat, it's a great place to eat, relax and socialise.
The unique surroundings reflect the atmosphere of this bustling arts centre and the fabulous menu, designed by our chef, make this one of Kendal’s most popular places to eat.
We have recently launched our new Grainstore menu, our Chef Mark who joined us from the award-winning Wheatsheaf at Brigsteer, he brings with him a flair for creating contemporary versions of classic British dishes.
“I look forward to refining the menu seasonally, with the wealth of fantastic ingredients on our doorstep in Cumbria the dishes can be changed often throughout the year,” said Mark.
Speedy service lovely food will definitely be back
Great atmosphere and great food!
Really friendly and helpful staff. Relaxed. Nice place to bring friends.
It was my mum's birthday. After watching "Mamma Mia! Here we go again" which was brilliant. And to follow was a lovely meal at The Grainstore Restaurant.
Yesterday we booked to eat with you before the cinema, I have got to say I have never been more disappointed with a meal ever. Inspite of being some of the first people in, others had eaten their meal and finished before our starter arrived. It was a catalogue of error from start to finish. The waiting on staff who were polite and friendly, seemed to be having trouble with the kitchen and food arrival. We waited 45 minutes for our starter which 4 minutes before it arrived we were told that the cold sharing platter that we had ordered was not available. We declined to order a replacement as it had taken so long. The caeser salad that we paid extra for chicken to be added was sparse on chicken, as a main course we expected something close to a chicken breasts worth of chicken on it and having spent many years in the restaurant trade, myself and friends were disappointed by this. The "salted cod with feta and olives" from the specials board was definitely not what I expected, it was mainly potatoes (not mentioned in the description) some of which were close to raw in the middle, again not a good portion of fish with skin on which needed seasoning and if there was feta in there another salty food, it was not visible and again the whole dish required seasoning! Along side this potato dish was 3 pieces of bread, an interesting addition to what was already a very heavily carb based dish with no vegetables except for the 5 olives. After a disappointing main and non existent starter we persevered and decided to fill up on a dessert, which we were told..... all desserts are off the menu as the chef was too busy and they may come back on later. All in all a very disappointing experience.
We had to wait for 45 mins for our meal to be served. This was not consistent with our previous experience when eating here and we got the impression that there was some sort of problem in the kitchen.
There was a special Greek menu on a wall board - but we didn’t notice it and weren’t alerted to it by the waitress. We had very good pizzas - but we ate quickly and left. It was far too noisy - we couldn’t carry on a conversation. So we didn’t order dessert or coffees. We are unlikely to eat there again. When we attend an event, we’ll eat elsewhere in the town.
We had a pre cinema meal at 7pm which was spoilt by the karaoke from the bar. It was far too noisy. Karaoke was on from 6pm which was too early. It was not a relaxed bistro feel.
Chips were more like wedges and over cooked. Karaoke was playing in the bar, we should have been told about this when booking
Very accommodating, considering our variety of requests!
We were well accommodated after advising them we were running about 30min late for our table booking. The restaurant was less than half full. Food order of 4 pizzas did take longer than expected to arrive. The Chicken piri piri - is not piri piri chicken it's chicken with jalepenos. Staff were generally good but seemed to lack consistent attentive service.
Good Service and really nice food.
Fabulous service and food. Just disappointing no deserts other than ice cream being served
We had a fabulous time and our meals were delicious and the service excellent - however at 8.45 when we wanted to order desserts for all 7 of us - we were told that the kitchen had run out of everything and we could only have ice cream!! We don’t understand how on earth you could have run out of every single dessert? It was not late and sounded very much like the chefs had decided to go home early! We ordered ice cream which was delicious but were left dissapointed and slightly confused as to “why” there was nothing left on the dessert menu??
Quick and attentive service for a pre-theatre show. Relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Pleasantly surprised by delicious vegan food and unusual burger as well as more predictable pizzas etc. We’ll be returning
Although we live locally, this is the first time we've ever eaten at The Brewery - we were given a voucher as a Christmas present. The waiting on team could not have been more pleasant, helpful & understanding of my requirements regarding coeliac disease. Our only criticism would be that my husband's Caesar salad portion was a little small. We had a lovely evening, thank you.
Even though it was not busy it took nearly half an hour for our food to come. I always used to come to the brewery for the great selection of beers from around the country, only being able to get Hawkshead is poor
We used to love eating at the Brewery but not anymore !..if you don't like pizza,s ..burgers..there is not much else...we had pizza which was expensive for what was a pretty ordinary pizza...our granddaughter had sausage and mash again expensive...( the gravy was practically black !!! and not very appealing)...so I am afraid we will not be returning !!
For a group of 20 the food was brought out slowly so some people waited ages. Some of the food was cold on arrival and was obviously cooked much earlier. Poor waiter service for drinks. Overall nowhere near what I would have expected or experienced before
We ate in the Grainstore recently with two friends. We had hoped that the recent building works would have lead to an improvement in the restaurant but were disappointed. The menu seems the same - rather tired and predictable, although the food itself is fine. The service was incredibly slow which seems extraordinary since we were the only people eating in the restaurant (others were eating outside). Some extra bread we asked for never materialised. The beer we ordered was not what we got. It's a shame since we are great fans of the Brewery and regularly attend live music, films etc and we would like to regard it as somewhere to eat. But we won't be eating there again until there have been some major improvements.
Like the food would be nice to have curry on menu as routine
I like the way you manage the table reservations - never felt rushed, but table was available on time and we were very politely reminded of the start of our performance. Will come again, it worked well.
Waiting on staff not very good. First they were pushing to take our order, but when we asked for the dessert menu we had to wait 40minutes for somebody to take the order. As we were in the corner nobody looked at us . We felt ignored, I did complain about this but not much was said. We only ordered 2pizzas and garlic bread and a side rider of salad. Salad arrived way later than the pizzas, garlic bread tasteless and dry, we got a replacement but although more butter was added it was still tasteless . All in all not a positive meal out. Very disappointed, especially in the way our complaint was handled. Nobody actually did anything!!!
SLOW SERVICE PRIOR TO START OF FILM
