About Grainstore Restaurant
With its relaxed bistro feel and friendly environment, the Grainstore at The Brewery is a great place to be. Whether you are seeing friends, off to a show or simply popping in for an after-work treat, it's a great place to eat, relax and socialise.
The unique surroundings reflect the atmosphere of this bustling arts centre and the fabulous menu, designed by our chef, make this one of Kendal’s most popular places to eat.
We have recently launched our new Grainstore menu, our Chef Mark who joined us from the award-winning Wheatsheaf at Brigsteer, he brings with him a flair for creating contemporary versions of classic British dishes.
“I look forward to refining the menu seasonally, with the wealth of fantastic ingredients on our doorstep in Cumbria the dishes can be changed often throughout the year,” said Mark.
Took a risk on the baked cauliflower and didn't enjoy it. Seed accompaniment was too vinegary in flavour and lacked other taste, cauliflower was very firm at the core. Bad luck choice really as there were other choices on the menu that I know I would have enjoyed. This one saved by the garlic bread side order. Easy to book and very handy for events at The Brewery.
Love the pizza and movie deal. A great idea for a mid week treat. We ate in the Grainstore and it was very pleasant; service was excellent and well done to the staff there for being so welcoming.
We were asked for an extra £2 for the gourmet pizza when they were the same price as the Classic pizza. No explanation was given. We asked for the vinegar and were given chilli oil.
best gluten free pizza I’ve had in a long time if not ever! Could just do with some gluten free beer to go with it
After a film we always enjoy really good food in pleasant surroundings - an excellent night out!
Out for a birthday pizza which was lovely, really enjoyed a chilled evening with friends. Pizzas were great and reasonably priced, what's not to love!.
Cannot fault the food or the service. Mains arrived promptly (pizza) and were very tasty. Deserts were particularly good also, the best lemon meringue pie I’ve had in a long time. Staff were very friendly and polite. I look forward to coming back.
Had a lovely evening. Very nice waiting on staff.
We had a delicious lunch in great surroundings with attentive and thoughtful service, but strangely quiet for a Saturday lunch time and certainly deserves to be much busier.
Ordered peri peri chicken pizza- it was plain chicken. Other pizza was missing main ingredients. Very disappointing and informed by staff that they had received similar comments before. I will not be rushing back
Much improved from last visit with a short but interesting menu. Excellent food presentation and flavours although pizza was a little short of the standard of the other courses. Told that gratuity if added to credit card does not go to staff which is disappointing if true as we have usually done this.
I booked on behalf of a group of 8 guests that were staying with me. According to their feedback on Sunday they had a fabulous time, the outdoor music created a great atmosphere and the food was great. They would recommend to anyone.
Delicious food and great service x
Staff friendly. Food was served promptly as we were going to the cinema. Good variety of food on menu.
Lovely restaurant we eat in regularly, and will do in the future. Service a bit slow this time.
Really enjoyed our pre cinema meal.
Disappointed for second time . Americana pizza was soggy not tomatoey or chilli even when I asked for extra hot . Husbands Highgate burger was dried out and contained haricot beans ?! We sat in bar as empty no atmosphere kids running around screaming. No one again asked how meal was or cleared table . Such a shame I have always loved coming here will give it a miss for a while
Had a great time. Lovely food and friendly service.
Speedy service lovely food will definitely be back
Great atmosphere and great food!
Really friendly and helpful staff. Relaxed. Nice place to bring friends.
It was my mum's birthday. After watching "Mamma Mia! Here we go again" which was brilliant. And to follow was a lovely meal at The Grainstore Restaurant.
Yesterday we booked to eat with you before the cinema, I have got to say I have never been more disappointed with a meal ever. Inspite of being some of the first people in, others had eaten their meal and finished before our starter arrived. It was a catalogue of error from start to finish. The waiting on staff who were polite and friendly, seemed to be having trouble with the kitchen and food arrival. We waited 45 minutes for our starter which 4 minutes before it arrived we were told that the cold sharing platter that we had ordered was not available. We declined to order a replacement as it had taken so long. The caeser salad that we paid extra for chicken to be added was sparse on chicken, as a main course we expected something close to a chicken breasts worth of chicken on it and having spent many years in the restaurant trade, myself and friends were disappointed by this. The "salted cod with feta and olives" from the specials board was definitely not what I expected, it was mainly potatoes (not mentioned in the description) some of which were close to raw in the middle, again not a good portion of fish with skin on which needed seasoning and if there was feta in there another salty food, it was not visible and again the whole dish required seasoning! Along side this potato dish was 3 pieces of bread, an interesting addition to what was already a very heavily carb based dish with no vegetables except for the 5 olives. After a disappointing main and non existent starter we persevered and decided to fill up on a dessert, which we were told..... all desserts are off the menu as the chef was too busy and they may come back on later. All in all a very disappointing experience.
We had to wait for 45 mins for our meal to be served. This was not consistent with our previous experience when eating here and we got the impression that there was some sort of problem in the kitchen.
There was a special Greek menu on a wall board - but we didn’t notice it and weren’t alerted to it by the waitress. We had very good pizzas - but we ate quickly and left. It was far too noisy - we couldn’t carry on a conversation. So we didn’t order dessert or coffees. We are unlikely to eat there again. When we attend an event, we’ll eat elsewhere in the town.
