About Grainstore Restaurant
With its relaxed bistro feel and friendly environment, the Grainstore at The Brewery is a great place to be. Whether you are seeing friends, off to a show or simply popping in for an after-work treat, it's a great place to eat, relax and socialise.
The unique surroundings reflect the atmosphere of this bustling arts centre and the fabulous menu, designed by our chef, make this one of Kendal’s most popular places to eat.
We have recently launched our new Grainstore menu, our Chef Mark who joined us from the award-winning Wheatsheaf at Brigsteer, he brings with him a flair for creating contemporary versions of classic British dishes.
“I look forward to refining the menu seasonally, with the wealth of fantastic ingredients on our doorstep in Cumbria the dishes can be changed often throughout the year,” said Mark.
A fabulous evening for our Christmas party, excellent food and service. Thank you.
Hello there, we had a very enjoyable evening in the Grainstore restaurant yesterday evening. Hadn't been for quite a while, but I thought I'd send back some impressions. 1 its a lovely room to sit in and the staff were fab - very attentive and friendly. 2 the pizzas we ordered came unusually quickly, and were not cooked in the middle. Quite a bit of veg just seemed raw. The flavour was ok 3 very dissappointed with the selection on the menu - it used to be fab! What has happened? Why only burgers and pizzas? We would never order burgers. Having tolked to friends, it seems that quite a few people think the menu has really gone in a funny direction. I would recommend bringing back the lovely choices you had last time we came. I don't think we'll be back soon. But would do it the menu changed!
Service was excellent. Food great. Drinks expensive.
We are fairly regular customers and booked a Christmas gathering on Saturday. We were really disappointed and I felt a bit embarrassed as I had chosen the venue. The menu had just been changed and there were miss prints that resulted in us ordering chips with tops far a starter. It was a really odd selection and we felt overloaded by carbs. The choices for desert were really limited two deserts, cheese or ice cream. And to top it all off our bill was wrong and we’d been charged for an expensive bottle of wine that we hadn’t had. Really sad as it’s normally such a treat.
The cauli steak was not hot enough and the tabbouleh seemed only partially cooked. In the snack platter, the beetroot humous had little flavour. Altogether disappointing.
Good start to an evening.
Wasn’t sure what to expect but was wonderfully surprised. Good quality food at very reasonable prices and served by attentive and friendly staff. What more could you want?
First visit to the Arts Centre.Excellent for pre gig food and drink.
Great service and a perfect pre event meal
Would be great to see more Tapas or better choice of sides on menu
Really like this place but it's always freezing does the vaults bar have no heating. The grannery was cold too. It is November !
The staff were friendly and attentive enough without being annoying. The best onion rings I have ever eaten!
Warm and friendly , staff were open to a joke , excellent .
We booked a table at the Grainstore prior to going to the cinema. At the time of the booking there was no indication that the Grainstore menu would not be available and that the only choice would be the bar menu. Due to allergy issues there was nothing on the bar menu my wife could eat but when we queried the reason we were simply told it was because 'The Kendal Mountain Festival had been on all weekend'??? Not impressed.
We enjoyed a lovely pizza under the Reel Deal offer, after watching Bohemian Rhapsody. A great experience on every level. Fully recommended.
What has happened to the food at The Brewery!!? Really disappointed by the poor choice and quality!! Nothing wrong with a small menu, but do make it interesting!..... When the Specials Menu dishes have run out by early evening sitting, that should tell you the style of dishes that should also be on the standard menu. Also the Pizzas used to be great, but not when a simple choice of a Margherita is only topping paste, with no sign of a fresh tomato, mozzarella cheese or fresh herbs!!! Please bring back the wonderful Tapas Style Menu that offered great choice and originality of taste and flavour. As regular users of The Brewery programmes we are booked in again next week, but sadly will not be choosing to dining before the show......
Friendly staff, delicious food, top service, have been several times as we love it so much!
Delicious food. We all had something different, and everyone was really happy with their meal.
Efficient service, good food and ale, buzzing ambience. Dairy/gluten free requirements met with minimum fuss. Thanks.
The food was great
Lovely food, and quick and attentive service!
Very limited menu with 3 things on the specials board, 1 that was already on the menu and a salad when it was cold and lashing rain outside, so really only one special. I would have loved the food pictured on the web site but that was nowhere to be found. Restaurant prices but nothing better than pub grub in reality
The music is far too loud for conversation, the time and evening we were there, the average age was 50-60+! I asked for some olive oil and was charged £1:50 which was extortionate .Staff were friendly and efficient.
Good for burgers or pizzas. The house wine was fine.
