About Grainstore Restaurant
With its relaxed bistro feel and friendly environment, the Grainstore at The Brewery is a great place to be. Whether you are seeing friends, off to a show or simply popping in for an after-work treat, it's a great place to eat, relax and socialise.
The unique surroundings reflect the atmosphere of this bustling arts centre and the fabulous menu, designed by our chef, make this one of Kendal’s most popular places to eat.
We have recently launched our new Grainstore menu, our Chef Mark who joined us from the award-winning Wheatsheaf at Brigsteer, he brings with him a flair for creating contemporary versions of classic British dishes.
“I look forward to refining the menu seasonally, with the wealth of fantastic ingredients on our doorstep in Cumbria the dishes can be changed often throughout the year,” said Mark.
A lovely evening. Service very pleasant. It was a Monday so the atmosphere was quiet but fine. Food was very good and very reasonable. The parkin bread and butter pudding would have been better if I had just been up Helvellyn.
The food this time was very poor, having eaten here in the past before a gig, the food was previously amazing, wonderful meze, this time the pizza was very very poor and we won't be returning!
Nice atmosphere but the food was very lacking. The ceasar salad was not much more than a few lettuce leaves with some dollops of what appeared too be tartar sauce - very un-appetising, disappointing, and didn't resemble a caesar salad in any way except for the lettuce leaves. I would advise the chef to go back to serving a traditional ceasar salad with the standard sauce and it will fare much better
Didn't enjoy my experience at the Grainstore. Food was bad to mediocre. I had been looking forward to the food. Don't know if it was because there was only us in?? Staff were pleasant.
The Brewery pizzas used to be fantastic. The one I had this time was no better than a supermarket one. The rose wine was boring. Beef burger was good. Beer bun made it sound unusual but it tasted like an ordinary bun. Service lackluster. A real shame.
Food was lovely, however, as it was for a 7 year olds birthday party i think a margherita pizza would be far better than the mushroom pizza that we were served. We had 3 pizzas altogether, but none of the girls would have touched the mushroom one. I asked the waitress if it could be changed and it was very quickly, but this might be better for your bookings for the future.
It was very busy, we had booked a table but felt it was too busy for the amount of staff on shift and they looked and sounded harassed
Good food, Not a great drinks selection. All excellent staff though.
This was a meal following our attendance at an event in the theatre which ended relatively early - just after 8pm. The meal was lovely and the staff delightful. However, the restaurant kitchen closed at 8.30 and we were out of the building by 9pm with the Grainstore closed up - and locked! - around us and others left still eating which seems rather early - folk often want something to eat after a performance as it can be too early to eat beforehand - it is not encouraging people to return if they feel in the way or that they are a nuisance so maybe this needs discussion at management level.
Very relaxed atmosphere
Fantastic, friendly and helpful staff, gorgeous food, stylish surroundings. What more could you ask for? Thank you - will definitely be back :)
My partner had the Caesar salad & wasn’t impressed. The dish consisted mainly of lettuce, other ingredients were at a minimum & one of the main ingredients, Parmesan was missing. I had the fish & chips & there was more batter than fish🙁 The Brewery has always been good for pizzas but seems to let themselves down when it comes to other ‘dishes’
Service has definitely improved, our server really cared and got drinks from the bar for us, amazingly good for the Brewery! The food was okay, hubby said his pizza base was a brioche and not very nice, mine was gluten free and like a over cooked biscuit. The bill came to nearly £100 and no one asked us if everything was okay, perhaps they already knew the answer?!
Our party of 6 were seated at the very back of the restaurant in a corner away from everything ........... so lacking in atmosphere!!!
We could not taste any truffle oil on the pizza, they are not as good as they used to be. We had to leave a lot of the salad as the leaves were soggy.
I booked a table for four online only to be told on arrival that there wasn’t any available. I was happy to dine in the bar instead however I never received any further attention from anyone. Food choice is slightly limited & overpriced for a basic menu. Apart from uncooked onion rings and a horrible greasy Caesar dressing on my salad pizza and a couple of burgers were ok. Lovely place with great atmosphere let down by lack of customer care you’d expect. Unfortunately I won’t be coming back in a rush.
After a very poor intital trying to book this, and Jodie Johnston not replying to either email or phone, we were concerned a booking would happen. Our experience yesterday was wonderful, the food was excellent, all 13 of us cleared our plates. The service provided was excellent, there was a wait at the bar for drinks, I assume this was due to the Grainstore not being open? We appreciated the spacious setting, and we have already said we would like to book again for next year.
Very easy to book online
A fabulous evening for our Christmas party, excellent food and service. Thank you.
Hello there, we had a very enjoyable evening in the Grainstore restaurant yesterday evening. Hadn't been for quite a while, but I thought I'd send back some impressions. 1 its a lovely room to sit in and the staff were fab - very attentive and friendly. 2 the pizzas we ordered came unusually quickly, and were not cooked in the middle. Quite a bit of veg just seemed raw. The flavour was ok 3 very dissappointed with the selection on the menu - it used to be fab! What has happened? Why only burgers and pizzas? We would never order burgers. Having tolked to friends, it seems that quite a few people think the menu has really gone in a funny direction. I would recommend bringing back the lovely choices you had last time we came. I don't think we'll be back soon. But would do it the menu changed!
Service was excellent. Food great. Drinks expensive.
We are fairly regular customers and booked a Christmas gathering on Saturday. We were really disappointed and I felt a bit embarrassed as I had chosen the venue. The menu had just been changed and there were miss prints that resulted in us ordering chips with tops far a starter. It was a really odd selection and we felt overloaded by carbs. The choices for desert were really limited two deserts, cheese or ice cream. And to top it all off our bill was wrong and we’d been charged for an expensive bottle of wine that we hadn’t had. Really sad as it’s normally such a treat.
The cauli steak was not hot enough and the tabbouleh seemed only partially cooked. In the snack platter, the beetroot humous had little flavour. Altogether disappointing.
