About Governor's Grill
The all-day dining restaurant, set up under an open tent amid the lush garden of Sofitel Luang Prabang's enchanting courtyard, features a Farm to Table concept along with a Lao twist in its creation.
All products are locally sourced such as the feta from the Lao Buffalo Dairy farm, vegetables from nearby organic farms or sausages from a local German Butcher. Expect local flavors with the cold Watercress soup, Chicken liver terrine with Lao rum and preserved longan or classic dishes such as Tenderloin and Burger both offered in a classic way or Lao variation.
To further integrate the concept with its name: Governor’s Grill, the restaurant welcomes a grilling station where chefs grill and sizzle right in front of you. The baby pork ribs with pickled garlic, free range pork chop or whole Mekhong river fish wrapped in a banana leaf are among many specialties to discover. Vegetarian and Vegan dinner are also catered for with choice and variety of options including a grilled eggplant dip.
The dessert menu also reflects local flavors with a Lao “Phou-Piang” coffee crème brûlée or Lime fruit tart, seasonal fruit and passion coulis.
I had a wonderful dinner! Special thanks to Phan’s recommendation, I really enjoyed the banana flower salad, so refreshing and appetizing! The service are friendly and he can explain in detail.
The buffalo tenderloin was amazing and the chocolate mouse was heavenly! Attentive staff and great service!
The Governor's Grill turned out to be disappointing, doubly so because it was a Sofitel property and has such a high review rating. We had a confirmed reservation via Accor Tableplus app but the staff seemed to know nothing of it and inspected my phone for confirmation. We felt like we were tricking our way in. We had to ask for cutlery and napkins. A requested ice bucket for chilling wine was first done as a small bucket with tongs for ice cubes in drinks. However, the wine was very good. The pork baby ribs were the highlight, delicious. The mixed meat skewers were dry and tough. The buffalo bourginion was lacking the rich red sauce, and when it arrived was accompanied by an ant scurrying around on one plate. This was, as advised through the app booking, a 60th birthday celebration, of which the restaurant was clearly unaware. Beautiful setting but completely marred by poor and inattentive service and lacklustre food. When asked about the food we gave honest feedback but nothing was said or done other than be told the skewers should be dry (!). What was supposed to be a highlight birthday dinner to end our stay in Luang Prabang ended up rather disappointing. We cannot recommend the Governor's Grill.
Food is great! Their team is excellent.
The evening was fantastic. Food was great, ambience was great but the staff, particularly Oil, were what made the evening so special. Thank you
The food is great and staff are accommodating
Une cuisine raffinée dans un décor somptueux.
We had lunch at Governor's chill to celebrating my sister birthday, it really fantastic. Food was fresh delicious and nice set up. The service was really friendly and attractively, they even offer us the birthday dessert and cocktail for free, really surprised us!
The food and service were outstanding!
