About Gatehouse 1833
Gatehouse 1833 restaurant in Southampton featuring a menu of modern British cooking for lunch and dinner. We also serve a Sunday Lunch and Afternoon Tea.
Children are welcome but children’s high chairs are not available during dinner service.
I found the background music to be far to loud, also the music choice was not really suitable for a restaurant. The food was OK but nothing special and I was surprised that the venue has such a good trip advisor rating.
The table was set up with balloons and confetti it was beautiful our waitress was lovley the food was the nicest we have had there ~definitely worth a visit we will be back 😁
We had a fabulous meal on the roof terrace, nice atmosphere and great service. We will definitely go again.
We booked. Early on the day of the planner meal you asked us to reconfirmed which we did. We arrived on time and were told the restaurant was shut due to the chef being ill. Why weren't we notified? Then you asked for feedback on the 'experience' as if we had got a meal! Unbelievable. Won't be returning.
Booked Sunday lunch for 8 people, Very attentive staff and great food for the fixed price menu. Excellent value for money all be it a little quiet for a Sunday generating not a lot of atmosphere. Will deffinatly go again as the food was great and portion sizes excellent.
It is very difficult to quantify the atmosphere since we were the only customers on an awful cold and wet Wednesday supposed to be summer lunchtime, but we were royally looked after despite that and thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Lovely food at a good price, excellent service too.
Extremely quiet, the two waitresses were nice and friendly but mainly just stayed around the bar and we had to go and find them to order more drinks and to ask for the bill etc so they weren’t as on the ball as they should’ve been considering there were only two other tables. The menu was very limited, we were disappointed that it wasn’t the full menu, we follow the restaurant on Instagram and were so looking forward to eating there but were a little let down, we thought it would be an extremely upmarket posh restaurant but it didn’t live up to that expectation. I was blown away by the pudding though, creme brûlée with basil meringue! Incredible. We were hoping to try more different foods but the menu was not much different to anywhere else. The risotto was the best I’ve ever tasted though! We will be back- and we did like the place, just different to our expectations
I was really disappointed. The quality was nowhere near what I wanted for a special night. I will not be back.
Beautiful meal, lovely setting looking over the water shame the weather was rubbish. It was our sons birthday and the restaurant decorated the table which was a lovely surprise. Would recommend and would definitely return 👍
We had a lovely Sunday lunch.
Loved the afternoon tea we trended everything was lovely and very tasty and fresh. We will be coming again
It was my first time there and everything was perfect! The food was delicious and the price for it was very reasonable. The service was good too. Would definitely return for more!
Sadly a very disappointing meal. Complete lack of ambiance. Limited menu choice No Chablis on the wine list - usually a staple Ordered a bottle of wine at £59.95. Bottle was opened before arrival at the table and wine poured wrapped in a napkin. It was only after the waitress left that we realised it was a cheaper although acceptable wine. Charged for the more expensive wine on the bill and had to get this rectified. Side dish of ‘purple sprouting broccoli’ was actually green broccoli. Suggest you advertise this dish as ‘broccoli’ then you don’t need to worry what colour it is. This venue promised so much but failed to deliver.
Food was delicious and value for money, service was great too
nice and relaxed dining experience
Sadly our first visit to Gatehouse 1833 left us very underwhelmed! We were shown to a table in the main restaurant area, but because it was next to a large noisy group, asked to be moved to the circular restaurant room which was quieter. However, initial service was very slow, we had to ask for the wine list, and for our order to be taken. We enjoyed the food, but sadly the whole experience was disappointing.
Excellent food & service. Very noisy when we were there though.
Communication between our party and the restaurant before our booking was challenging, but once we arrived at Gatehouse the service was amazing and the staff were very accommodating. The menus was varied and the food was excellent, would recommend to a friend.
One of the best afternoon teas I have had in a long time. A good selection of sandwiches and cakes to be had. It was my mums and boyfriends birthday and they presented the table well to mark the occasion. Will definitely go back and thoroughly recommend others to experience it too.
A lovely place to enjoy a glass of wine outside followed by a tasty dinner. We had the 3 courses which was delicious. Staff were really friendly.
Excellent venue and food and drink, everything was great, only improvement suggestion would be to change the Yorkshire puddings, they lacked flavour and texture, but everything else was lovely
Been to your Restaurant many times, we have never had a bad meal really as there was a different menu, since the menu change you have lost the edge, set menus dont work for me as they limit the choice. Disappointed in being charged £5 extra for a sirloin steak meal that i feel was nothing special, not the usual high standards that we were accustomed to from you.
Fantastic food and wonderful views of Southampton Water
Great service and superb value for the quality of the food!
