About Gatehouse 1833
Gatehouse 1833 restaurant in Southampton featuring a menu of modern British cooking for lunch and dinner. We also serve a Sunday Lunch and Afternoon Tea.
Children are welcome but children’s high chairs are not available during dinner service.
Sadly a very disappointing meal. Complete lack of ambiance. Limited menu choice No Chablis on the wine list - usually a staple Ordered a bottle of wine at £59.95. Bottle was opened before arrival at the table and wine poured wrapped in a napkin. It was only after the waitress left that we realised it was a cheaper although acceptable wine. Charged for the more expensive wine on the bill and had to get this rectified. Side dish of ‘purple sprouting broccoli’ was actually green broccoli. Suggest you advertise this dish as ‘broccoli’ then you don’t need to worry what colour it is. This venue promised so much but failed to deliver.
Couldn’t park close enough and it was raining so didn’t even make the reservation.
Food was delicious and value for money, service was great too
nice and relaxed dining experience
Sadly our first visit to Gatehouse 1833 left us very underwhelmed! We were shown to a table in the main restaurant area, but because it was next to a large noisy group, asked to be moved to the circular restaurant room which was quieter. However, initial service was very slow, we had to ask for the wine list, and for our order to be taken. We enjoyed the food, but sadly the whole experience was disappointing.
Excellent food & service. Very noisy when we were there though.
Communication between our party and the restaurant before our booking was challenging, but once we arrived at Gatehouse the service was amazing and the staff were very accommodating. The menus was varied and the food was excellent, would recommend to a friend.
One of the best afternoon teas I have had in a long time. A good selection of sandwiches and cakes to be had. It was my mums and boyfriends birthday and they presented the table well to mark the occasion. Will definitely go back and thoroughly recommend others to experience it too.
A lovely place to enjoy a glass of wine outside followed by a tasty dinner. We had the 3 courses which was delicious. Staff were really friendly.
Excellent venue and food and drink, everything was great, only improvement suggestion would be to change the Yorkshire puddings, they lacked flavour and texture, but everything else was lovely
Been to your Restaurant many times, we have never had a bad meal really as there was a different menu, since the menu change you have lost the edge, set menus dont work for me as they limit the choice. Disappointed in being charged £5 extra for a sirloin steak meal that i feel was nothing special, not the usual high standards that we were accustomed to from you.
Fantastic food and wonderful views of Southampton Water
Great service and superb value for the quality of the food!
Nice setting. We were the only people there initially at 7pm midweek, a couple of hours later another 2 couples joined us. Hopefully this is different on the weekend, and will improve as more people come along. Nice welcome. Fantastic food - we had 3 courses - all presented impeccably with lots of tasty bits throughout each plate. If I were to be hypercritical and make a small suggestion, it would be that the lamb croquette could have done with a touch of seasoning. I would also like a bit of clarification on parking as we were told to put a Kuti's card on our car, and thankfully we were ok, but it would be good to clarify, if there is free parking or not, as I wouldn't want a nasty suprise.
The food was really good - fresh and tasty and good value for money but the decor and ambience need some work e.g. the lighting is too bright and the flowers on our table had died and gone brown.
Excellent food and extremely good value.
lovely restaurant, fantastic service, delicious food, bonus of an acoustic singer throughout dinner.
Amazing afternoon tea experience
Came in for mothers day. Loved the set menu. Great service and food. Cheers
Great afternoon tea for mother’s day!
Lovely meal for mother’s day, great service and great food!! Will definetly be returning. Thank you
Didnt like the food this time.. was Quite disappointed.. Asked for a window seat had to ask again.. otherwise this wouldnt have been fulfilled.. food was left on table, whilst I went to the downstairs to toilet 3 times.. not suitable for me, need a toilet upstairs for people with disabilities.
The ambience was ruined on this occasion by a large group of quite drunk and loud lads. I fell on the step in the downstairs gents the step needs some highlighting cut and bruise my arm on the wall opposite. The food and value for money was very good, There was before opening a pie going on the menu as advised by Mr Kuti. Would come back but the step should be addressed as someone who had a few drinks could have a serious injury Mike
We had an amazing Afternoon Tea at Gatehouse 1833. Everything was freshly baked and it made for a lovely treat for my mums birthday. Definitely a hidden gem in Southampton.
One of the best meals we've had in Southampton if not the country. Gem of a restaruant, book now before it becomes full up!
