Very beautiful gardens, afternoon tea is a must. Had to wait a while to be seated even though I pre-booked!
Great food, great selection and good with dietary requirements.
Another amazing visit to Coombe Abbey. We returned to celebrate our anniversary and were made to feel so special. Impeccable service from all the smiling staff, totally amazing work from all the chefs. Food was totally faultless. Can’t wait to come back soon.
Excellent and friendly staff as always! The place itself, the food and ambience is just wonderful and we felt totally relaxed. We would definitely stay again!
Lovely afternoon tea, perfect service and a lovely touch of a chocolate decorated “golden wedding anniversary “ plate for my parents who were surprised and delighted by it. Definitely recommend and will definitely return . Thank you!
Our experience of the garden room was lovely , and the steak was the best we’ve ever had . The service was also excellent!
Absolutely love Coombe abbey. We were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. We spent our wedding night at Coombe ten years ago and have visited a few times since also. Food is beautiful as usual although we did have an item missing from the afternoon tea selection but we didn’t say anything as it we were quite a way into it before we realised. Also, they ran out of Coombe ale which is very nice and I was disappointed. Evening meal and breakfast were excellent except for the pineapple carpaccio for dessert which looks pretty awful when it arrives on the plate and lacks any sort of colour. Could do with some sort of raspberry or blackberry coulis or something to break up the blandness of the colour and give it a bit of zing. The dirty plate/waste table in the conservatory is a bit off putting as it is right in your eye line (when you are dining in the bird cage at the bar end) and kind of ruins the whole special feel to the dining area. Surely this can be moved to back of house or even just take the dirty plates straight to the kitchen instead of piling them up next to diners....? The hosting staff also seem less interesed and knowledgable than previous visits. A lot of the questions we asked about food and drink etc, they didn’t know the answer to them and had to “go check” with a higher member of staff. Also, requests or extra orders were either ignored or just forgotten. Seems to be a lack of basic training from managers above, the inability to retain information about the menu or just lack of interest in the job. The supplementary charges on the receipts you get are also annoying as we got presented with a bill for over £100 for a meal we had already paid for as included. Surely just the supplementary charges can just be detailed on the receipts you are given....? The male maitre d’ (not sure of his name) was very good and polite and gave us congratulations and a glass of Prosecco to celebrate our anniversary giving us hope that the ‘special’ way Coombe makes you feel Is not completely lost We also overheard someone asking if breakfast was at half 7 and he said “I assume so” and left it at that. Bedroom and bathroom were beautiful and spotless clean and the bed was very comfortable. Didn’t want to get out of it. We learned that the council have taken over the grounds and this is showing through quite a lot already. Such things as car park barriers, paymachines and rule enforcement signs are popping up in places and are just ruining the look and feel of the hotel and taking away the special feel to your visit. As hotel guests we shouldn’t have to read signs saying we have to pay £5 for parking on top of the £300 we are already paying for a 1 night stay! I do hate Paying for parking at the worst of times let alone at the best of times aswell!! That needs to be sorted. The gardens and grounds are also looking pretty scruffy and not looked after too. The patterned hedge at the back has been left to go to ruin and the are no plants at all in any of the borders. I genuinely hope this is not a sign of things to come as it would be a shame to lose such beautiful gardens and a beautiful and individual hotel to rules, charges and corporate ways. All in all, we were happy with our stay and Coombe is a beautiful place. We will definitely be returning to Coombe because we have a strong attachment to it and love the place but we just hope that the little things that are lacking are improved and the things that make you feel like you are somewhere very special are not lost. Fingers crossed.....
Amazing place , loved the interior of the hotel and the grounds are amazing to go for long walks . Highly recommend it !!!
Definitely not worth the money. Sandwiches had random fillings.. hardly any filling in them aswell. Not worth the money
Lovely food, lovely atmosphere. Only downside was having to ask for more drinks rather than being asked if we wanted any top ups.
Lovely food, exquisite atmosphere and attentive service from the staff. Would definitely recommend to friends.
A very pleasant meal, beautifully cooked food and excellent service.
We took my mum who is in a wheelchair for afternoons tea and I have to say the porters were extremely helpful getting her from the main door to the conservatory. We found all the staff to be very helpful and acomodating. We had a fabulous afternoon.
The afternoon tea was lovely would definitely recommend and will be visiting again in the future.
We had afternoon tea and it was lovely, it was very filling we even had to take some our cakes home with us!
Staff gonout of there way to make you feel welcome and iys always a great experience
Great selection of Afternoon Teas to suit any tastes/requirements. Sandwiches and cakes were delightful and the Earl Grey tea was out of this world - proper BIG flavour! Lovely atmosphere in the conservatory and the service was excellent. Maybe a little big of quiet background music would be nice...? I'd certainly return for another visit and would heartily recommend it to friends.
Excellent Afternoon Tea, great surroundings, and good service
Great service and food in the restaurant. Food was enjoyable and elegant. Payment is a little disorganised because you aren’t sure whether to pay at the reception or garden, and garden staff seemed a little confused when trying to pay. Thank you.
Was slightly disappointed that the sandwiches we received for Afternoon Tea where not the ones which was on the menu and no-one informed us there would be a slightly change. Also, if the crusts where cut off the sandwiches it would of made it look like care and thought had gone into it, rather. I've had Afternoon tea in a few places and they all cut the crusts off It was very very hot in the room (it was a cloudy day) it of been nice for some windows to be opened to let some fresh air in. I would say the service across all of the hotel needs looking at as this is the only thing that lets this lovely hotel down. It's an impressive building but the service is alot to be desired.
would like a bit more on the menu
Always enjoy Afternoon Tea at Combe Abbey!
Don't have any.
The restaurant is beautiful, quaint and perfect for a quiet evening meal - a lovely setting. The food was really good, no complaints there. However, we booked a table, and arrived on time, and there were no tables free - except when we were taken to our table, there were several free! And we were not the only ones to experience that. It also took a long time between courses, which was frustrating. It felt like there were not enough staff that day - a big shame. But overall, we will definitely come again.
