About Garden Restaurant
British and European flavours combined with the elegant setting and perfect views of our private, landscaped gardens
The Garden Restaurant Menu offers an extensive choice. Our Chef uses as much local produce as possible to create a truly memorable dining experience with our beautiful setting enhancing this experience even further.
I am sorry to say that we were disappointed with our afternoon tea, booked as a birthday treat for me. All the staff we encountered were very pleasant and nice, but .... The room lacked any ambience - no background music , decor looking a bit tired, all a bit utilitarian. The tea was disappointing. Just a choice of tea or coffee, no choice of types of tea, and we were provided with a pot of tea with teabags and no hot water, and thick white crockery. It just didn’t feel special. The food was ok, but the sandwiches had been haphazardly prepared and a couple of them had virtually no filling in them ( one of mine literally had a couple of bits of sweet corn but nothing else discernible). The scones were served with jelly, not jam, and not quite enough cream. I suspect the scones were warmed in the microwave. The cake selection was ok but not exciting. After the tea was served no member of staff came to check if we needed anything or if everything was alright. In fact I think I saw the waitress who had served us with her coat on, going off duty. We had to go looking for someone to pay the bill. I am not a complainer usually but we were very disappointed that there was so much that could have been better with just a little more attention to detail.
Excellent, cheerful and helpful staff from start to finish. We were looking for a peaceful and professional experience to combat the hustle and crowds in so many Winchester establishments. This hotel is at the centre of Winchester, whereas others claim to be but are a 15 minute walk away for the able bodied!
Great as always
Extremely busy when we arrived but we were taken to our table overlooking the garden and had a lovely time in relaxing area.
lovely afternoon tea, sandwiches very tasty, fab warm scones and the chocolate marshmallows were to die for. great selection of tarts too. the waitress was really lovely and nice too.
My friends and I had a lovely, unhurried, tasty afternoon tea. Service was excellent. I will come again definately. Thanks.
Have had afternoon tea several times as it is always very good. Would definitely recommend.
Lovely afternoon tea, coffee was rather weak, and atmosphere was poor simply because we were the only ones dining at the time. The waitress did not come and check with us at any time whether or not we were ok and we had to seek her out when we required service. Value for money of course as it was discounted.
Very dull... bit plain and simple.... shame it was a 60th birthday present for one our friends ☹
A number of comments about the tea being tasteless - only 2 teabags in a large tea pot! More teabags needed. We used a Groupon voucher as a result we all felt the afternoon tea was very good value for money and most enjoyable.
My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea. We were greeted and served by a really polite and accommodating young man and served well by the rest of the staff. The cakes and sandwiches were delicious. The only small criticism is that the coffee was not hot enough for my liking. Other than that, it was a lovely treat. Many thanks
The staff were amazing, so efficient and friendly. The food was delicious and we couldn't fault it all. We will definitely be coming back when we are in the area again.
Very friendly staff, no request was too much. Excellent service. Quality of afternoon tea was amazing!!
We regularly go to the Winchester Royal hotel for Afternoon Tea whenever we have a family birthday. When we get the Groupon or AfternoonTea.co.uk deals, I think it is great value for money but it would be too expensive at the full price. The food is lovely though as is the hotel. The service is good, too, but a little more attention (e.g. asking if we want more tea/coffee, etc.) would not go amiss.
We had to wait quite a while for somebody to come and take us to our table. In the end I had to put my head into the restaurant where a number of staff were chatting in order for someone to help us. We had been stood waiting for about 5 minutes. The food was good, starters lovely and the meat for the roast was good. and we were served promptly (there was only one other set if diners at the time so it wasn't busy). The drinks were quite over priced I thought, £12 for a glass of wine seemed a little extravagant. We came to eat there because I had a voucher for £20 but I am not sure I would choose to have a roast here again. Maybe an evening meal would be better.
staff couid not have been nicer or friendlier.we arrived a little late but it was not a problem.will certainly go again
Have been twice for afternoon tea, really excellent. Lovely if the weather is nice to be able to sit in the garden.
Thanks for the great service and the added touches for our friends’ birthdays!
Good service, lovely setting & delicious food. Warm, fresh scones were an added bonus & very moreish!
Although the food was nice, there was no one around to assist us. We had to find someone to seat us, ask to be served and order our food. Then at the end find someone to ask for the bill. It would have been better to have a little background music on and have at least 1 or 2 staff on hand if we needed anything
Delicious afternoon tea and, despite the hotel clearly being very busy getting ready for a big wedding party, the service was attentive and excellent, even though we were the only ones in the restaurant. I have lowered the score for atmosphere becaue, although the restauraunt is lovely, the continual droning and rattling of some sort of worn out motor or fan in the corner of the room did spoil our quiet afternoon tea! I mentioned it to one of the staff who informed me that it had been making this noise for a couple of years, but no-one knew what it was!
