Afternoon tea was great, along with good, friendly service, would recommend to family and friends.
Food O.K.but nothing special. The service was poor, you seem to employ kids to serve and they had little idea what was required.
We went at 3pm on Sunday for the afternoon tea. Initially the service was prompt. It tailed off towards the end with nobody around when we were leaving (we had to find a waiter to say we were leaving). At first our afternoon tea had a big hair stuck to the cake so had to be taken back. The food was ok, but not amazing and some of the cakes looked suspiciously shop bought. The scones weren't fresh and a table behind us had to send theirs back as they couldn't cut through them. The sandwiches weren't bad but nothing to write home about and were basically either tuna sweetcorn or egg mayo and tomato. Overall it was an average experience. We purchased it via a 2 for 1 buyagift voucher which was £19. Normally it's £19 per head, and it was definitely not worth that much. Being a Sunday afternoon, the restaurant was dead, so no atmosphere to speak of. I suppose they had music playing which helped.
Great service our waitress was lovely! Our sandwiches we all varied in sizes - two being literally one bite? So they could do wuth evening out and also our scones were soggy - all in all though my daughter (10) loved the mummy daughter time x
Lovely hour spent enjoying a mother and daughter day. Sandwiches were lovely, scones were delicious and soft. A good assortment of small cakes. My favourite was the macoroon. Service was quick and efficient. We were asked if we were happy with the food and if we needed anything else but otherwise left to enjoy our tea.
It was lovely however we weren't offered a high chair, we weren't offered a refill on the tea or food and there wasn't much of a service presence. Lots of staff passing outside by the door but hard to get anyone's attention. The restaurant wasn't that full but still would have preferred to have more of a service presence. Also asked for a take away box but the food was put in a paper bag which was not ideal as it did not preserve the food in a decent state. Please supply take away boxes. Many thanks.
Food was lovely, service was impeccable
Lovely afternoon tea great service lovely atmosphere and surroundings would definitely recommend
We came for afternoon tea on Wednesday afternoon so understandably this is a quiet time but the staff followed a pattern of seating people right next to the tables of other guests. Because it was so quiet both sets of guests were whispering rather than being at ease. In order to create atmosphere at quieter times some background music could be played which would help with issue one. Scones were served warm and lovely selection of cakes. Many thanks
A lovely afternoon tea with changes made for a vegetarian plus one with various dietary requirements .
A very pleasant way to spend the afternoon, I'm sure the garden is lovely in the sunshine.
We had a lovely time at the royal Winchester hotel for afternoon tea, the staff were very helpful and courteous, we will definitely be back.
It was very quiet, but that was ok for us.
A lovely room in which to enjoy a delicious tea. I thought that the flapjacks, fruit cake & lemon cake were a bit unimaginative, but the fruit tart, chocolate marshmallow & macaroon were excellent.
Always lovely afternoon tea, we have been many times
Lovely setting in the heart of Winchester helped by having fantastic weather so could sit out in the garden.
The entire experience was outstanding. From the very helpful receptionist to the incredibly efficient and very prompt service. Throughout our time we were regularly checked on to ensure we were happy and asked if we needed anything. It was an excellent afternoon with lovely quality food. Would highly recommend. Many thanks from Sam and Megan Jones
We had an afternoon tea at The Royal and it was absolutely brilliant with a good variety of sandwiches and bites. Also my wife thinks it it possibly the best coffee she has had in years. The young lady who served us was nothing but friendly and very helpful. We shall certainly return
Enjoyed an afternoon tea. It would of been nice to be told what kind of varieties of tea and coffee were available, and would of been nice to be asked if everything was ok with our food, and asked if we would like more tea or coffee. I had to go and find someone to ask for more tea.
Food was delicious
A fantastic afternoon tea.
I had booked because I was given a 2 for 1 voucher in the spring. So - very good value for money! The food was fresh and delicious, good variety. We chose to sit in the garden so the wasps were with us - nothing you could have done about that! We had to ask for a second pot of tea, very necessary with all the lovely sweet treats! I was very pleased that you remembered it was our Anniversary and the Prosecco was a delightful touch, thank you.
Had a fab few hours . Staff couldn’t of been more helpful with my disabled mother nothing was too much trouble Many many thanks
